I think you meant Crowntop, Roy.
You’ve said you sell a lot of non-Plomb to buy more Plomb. eBay? CL? FBM? Brick&mortar?

Yep you are correctly. Yes most of my non Plombs go as trade bait or hit eBay and FB marketplace. The funds then go back to buy more tools as of right now but the wife and I are trialing this into a side business over the past month and so far it has been a good experience. I do occasionally upgrade my personal tools as well but I have a set up that works pretty well.

Roy, how about posting a pic or two of the hand plane? I couldn't tell much from the lone pic of it in the box of other woodworking related items. :0)

I went to an estate sale this morning. A vise in the background of a picture drew me in. I could tell it was big old USA but no details. I ended up buying other things at the sale but not the Vise.

The vise is a Columbian 4.5" Cleveland, Ohio. Good condition; no rust, cracks or repairs. Also no swivel and no removable jaw(no pins, no screws that I saw). What would you pay for it? Estate sale said they would cut the price tomorrow after lunch if still avail.

Here is what I did buy :)
Craftsman Square: $2
Stack of Sandpaper packs from 40-220 grit: $10
Complete set of Proto DBE wrenches 5/16 - 1 1/8: $10
Small Dolly: $5

The Proto pry bar was in with the wrenches.

That Proto dbe set in the roll is a you ****! In terms of the vise- it is a fixed base(non swivel) so don’t pay more than $60 and you will be doing well! Check for repairs, cracks, welds, etc. if it is repaired don’t pay more than $20

Evaporust doesn’t require power. Start that 83-1/2 in a bath and let’s see if you can resist refurbishing it. :bounce:
Haha. Too true. I could get used to this 'roughing it.' Between sleeping in the hammock under the stars, grilling everything I can before it spoils, and gathering an early crop of black walnuts that the storm knocked down, I haven't had much time to attend to the Parker streamliner. I wonder what the diff is between the 83-1/2 and 63-1/2? Both look like 3-1/2" jaws. Both are swivel. Shifty?

Garage sale this morning was a complete zero. Then on to an estate sale that was less than zero.... no tools even though the listing said tools, but worse got two bee stings while waiting for them to open. Sometimes you get great tools.... and sometimes the bees get you!

Been a while but got drawn in by a barn sale sign today. Family was cleaning out a house and barn and were on their third dumpster and the place was only barely walkable, I can't imagine what it was like before those dumpsters. Guy had thousands of wrenches and mixed sets of stocks of all sizes. Tons of coffee cans complete unsorted. Various cabinets/drawers completely full of pliers and screwdrivers. I could have been there all day trying to sort things out but I'm trying to get too much stuff!

I spent about $100. The Atlas needs a cord but came with stand for $10. Same for the 3/4 industrial block. The 3/4" ratchets are Proto, the bottom left can is all craftsman and the others are good brands as well. Box is a Snap-On. Small shop king is in one of the pictures. The cardboard box was what I carried around, almost all 1/4" stuff mostly craftsman and I added some of the truck brands I found as I was digging around.

Looks like a great haul of stuff. And in your box alot of sockets on rails some of which look complete. Sounds like you walked into a hoarders house. A hoarders house of tools might be something we all would like to find. I see an old vise in there too. Enjoy!

Nice on the proto. The arrowheads seem to have a following.

There's a serious low pressure zone over that barn! There's probably a 1958 Corvette buried under layers of tarps and hay somewhere in the back, too! You need to go back and check!!

Lugz:
Although the jaws are the same width, there are a few differences.

On your 83 1/2 on the left, there is a raised anvil area and no hole for a parting tool.
Also notice that the guide bar on the 63 1/2 is longer. The maximum safe opening span on the 63 1/2 is 5.25 inches.

A stock 83 1/2 has a shorter guide bar and shorter screw and can only open 3 1/2 inches.

Specifications say that the 83 1/2 weighs in at 13 pounds and the 63 1/2 weighs 16 1/2 pounds.

I hit a bunch of sales yesterday, but felt like I was a dog chasing its own tail for most of them, and was starting to think about packing it in, when I hit a sale that had a bunch of newer woodworking tools, which I am really not interested in. But the old fellow having the sale asked what I was looking for, and after a bit of back and forth, I ended up with these:

Stanley #6C and a #220 sweetheart. $25 so not a bargain, but it was nice to help an old guy out.

The next sale was much better, with a good garage to go through. And I picked up the following:

Hozan tire spoons, speed check, two Bonney refer rats, a Plomb brake wrench and a full container of Tap Magic (not shown)

An analog gas-leak detector and an analog meter (haven't tested it yet)

and an almost complete Herbrand ignition set, WWII era I believe. All of that set me back $10.

Jake’s Flea was shrouded in foggy mystery this morning. Groped my way to a modest bag of light items for $17:
Craftsman - 10” pipe wrench, dikes, vise grips, holdeez screwdriver, 2 ignition wrenches;
Bonney - 2891C dbe, 006 screwdriver, H12, H16;
6” Westcott S-adj, 1/2” TKF Cam-Loc, 2 small springs (one to replace in the visegrips).
I was tempted by a Craftsman underline 1/2hexdr hingehandle, but the detent ball was crushed into the hole, and the handle was snapped at the tommy bar hole.

Very nice. I think I have a similar Plomb that is a Ford Shock Absorber Plug Wrench 6538. They are pretty hard to find.

The

By my standards, that is a bargain. Not a steal, but a decent bargain. If theY aren’t covered In rust, the block plane is worth $15, the 6c close to $40 at reasonable places. Around here on CL, $25 & $75 asking. And if you can use them..., new versions are Much more.

Things are WAY more active where you guys are:

This was picked up yesterday "locally" (an hour each way...) off CL! $20 my third AGM KampKoomk No. 3!:

Missing the pump, but has the wrench:

And for entertainment value; A friend who is moving out of state gave me a small portable tube tester - this was inside!

And this was today's "haul" from a TOO while going to pickup a distributor cap:

Saw is a Disston. Emblem seems new.

Since I sell at Fleamarket several times a year, I have been busy hitting all yardsales since we opened up in York county.
(If anyone visits Morningstar Market in Thomasville look for the 79 Ford van on the top of the hill & say Hi.) :)

Here are 3 keepers that won't be for sale that I picked up this weekend:
Pair of SK wrench sets at $50.00 the pair.
A 1/2" craftsman set, -V- Ratchet -G- sockets $10.00
& my favorite that I have absolutely no use for...
A 48" Trimo for $10.00
Trimo speaks to me as it is cast with Roxbury Mass. Sometime when mammoths still walked the earth, Roxbury was a place where families lived & factories made wrenches.
When I went to school in Boston in the late 70's, Roxbury was already a place you went if you felt like getting mugged.
Sad. :(
Anyway,

On our way home from sailing I spotted an estate sale sign really close to home that somehow we missed in the ads. It was a professional but one we haven't seen before. This is what I spotted and fortunately I was one the right side of the table while other guys were coming around the bend. I had to look at the price tag twice but it was $60 so I grabbed it. I think the sellers thought is was a small wood lathe vs metal lathe. (the previous owner turned wood pen blanks with it).

After I brought it home I wondered if there was more to it like a motor, etc. So I went back to the sale and found an X,Y table, what I think is the correct motor and some kind of pulley bracket. All three for another $55.

I also picked up the early style Workmate for $8.

At another sale I picked up this Neon advertising clock from the 50's that flips thru advertising cards that rotate on a drum. Everything works except the Neon and I'll need to make up some flip cards. $50.

We were supposed to have a townwide GS today but we still have lots of power outages and road closures due to I-say-I-*** so they postponed it for a week. Despite that some of the people were holding their sales since they were prepared.

At one stop I got a new in box Jet power tool mobile base. I paid the asked amount and Mrs No_Garage told me on the way to the car to let her haggle for me next time as she could have saved me 5-10 dollars. I had been chatting with the guy and it was a reasonable price . . .

We then went to a hoarder house ES where I bought a 3m tape dispenser for large rools of tape - 3/4" wide masking or painters tape. I got it home and realized that it was #4 in the collection with only 2 of them actually holding rolls of tape.

Cheers

Jim

Dave, you need to go back and look for a box of loose gears. without a QC, that one had sets of gears you change out for feeds and speeds, (for threading and power feed cutting)

Did I say yousuck?

The cardboard box was what I carried around, almost all 1/4" stuff mostly craftsman and I added some of the truck brands I found as I was digging around.

You ****! You paid $10 for that grinder and stand [emoji849][emoji15]

I hit a few local sales today in the way to a grocery pick up. Mostly junk except for these - Coleman lantern and can of white gas, mostly full for $3. Dome has a few minor rim dings but is almost minty otherwise. I am not sure if this was a good deal but for the price I figured it would be a good user! Looks vintage but not so vintage that I am super **** about it. Anything I should do before I fire it? The fuel in it smells fresh. Also picked this craftsman long c drill with chuck for $1! It is dirty but should clean up well and looks super cool! The from end reminds me of a Art Deco design airplane

The other day, picked up a hand plane at a yard sale which only had the markings on the iron, which was Keystone Mfg Co Louisville KY (ie. pic 5 shows it faintly on the iron)

In doing research, found another hand plane with the same markings on the iron, along with a story on it, which will leave the link below.

On the hand plane I picked up, wasn't sure if it was fully legit or if someone over time has switched out the irons and so maybe that is only thing legit on it.

Interesting enough to upload pics and the little bit of information I could find.

Mike
