Wrath of Khan and Road Warrior are better than their priors, but WoK probably doesn’t count, because the franchise is inherently serial, and the first movie wasn’t really original. (Isn’t VGER really just NOMAD redux?) It is possible to make a better sequel (just not in Hollywood).

Congrats madison! Nice stack at a nice price!

What's the decal on the inside of the chest lid?

Got a picture of it this morning.

It's not grime, it's early Parker rust-proofing. Later they show up nickel-plated.
I have, and they were advertised that way as well.

That's not soot, that's original early Parker rust-proofing! Many early socket sets and other tools were finished this way, including many I own (Bay State, Chicago Hardware & Mfg, etc). It's almost powdery.

EDIT: We have a couple Packer Auto "RAY" threads. See the Index in the Stickie.

Lugz, your knowledge and research never cease to amaze. Thanks!

& a Skillet that needs industrial cleaning to see what it is.
15 bucks for all 3 pieces.
Not bad, but it took 30 minutes to clean off the dirt & cat pee. :eyecrazy:

As others have correctly stated it's a Griswold. I'd put the effort into cleaning and seasoning unless there is unseen damage to the cooking surface, etc

Unexpectedly was in the area of an estate sale on the last hour of the last day and decided to stop by and see what was left. At least a dozen cars still parked there. A guy loading his outback said best deals ever. Front door said fill a box for $10. Any size. People were digging through piles all over. I went down to the garage, into the neighboring basement and low and behold found some tools left. Would have liked to see this place on day one. The scraps I found are interesting. Hoping some here can define a few of them :)

Here is my $10 box contents:

Doh, noticed a few things not in the pics:
1. A few yard sticks. I think the wooden local ones with the shop and town on the name are nice. One of them is from Erie, PA :)
2. Art framing T square.
3. A couple wooden games for my daughter

And the things in the pics:
4. Various tools. Plane, files, pliers, paint brushes, wire brush, solder gun, block of metal, glass cutters, peg board holders, chainsaw blade, punch
5. tool box: "Union utility chest"
6. Two Louisville slugger wooden bats. The big one was taped up so I didn't see the crack until I got home and was cleaning it up.
7. Mickey Mouse tin

Any recommendations to fix a cracked bat? I found plenty of people fixing broken bats, but not cracked ones. Glue, clamp, either screw or dowel rods, sand, paint. All good if I can get glue down in the crack.

What is that middle pliers for in my 2nd pic? No idea....lol

Everything I found was made in USA :)

I forgot to post most of the eBay purchases from April. Kind of went overboard and added quite a few more early tools to the Blackhawk, Frank Mossberg, Ray, and Walden collections.9213e210830590c1775276329d4d610f.jpgf665bf344a2cb5300d78e6e846d9aba9.jpg3f3fc8ca7f63dff666f85729e5baf86c.jpg1f7dfe4dd66fb8f561c0101b73e79999.jpg3df71efaf0ea1f563cec54b22f72cf26.jpg8afed524a7d52361a4ab41fc380e641a.jpgc31c6d2370e6ade0c51d7cbcbba84885.jpg7324aad7556eac5cbb59aff237b43ab9.jpg

That’s a Griswold cast iron skillet! Toss it in the oven and run a self cleaning cycle to burn off all the crud. Reseason and you’ll have a lifer piece. Or sell it for 10x what you paid.

E- tank will clean it also, and you won't have to explain burnt cat pee smell to the sig other...

Friday, my daughter was left behind when my wife and older daughter left early to garage sale, so she went with me. We had a good time, and both found a few items. Mine are shown at the bottom in photo #1:

806504 DOE wrench 1-3/16 x 1-9/16. This number falls into the range of Wright Aeronautical/Curtiss-Wright aviation tools, but it doesn't seem to fit?
Tire spoon. I have to help my son install four tires on our 1928 Model A Ford this week, so it should get some use!

Saturday, I attended a group of garage sales in one neighborhood. I found the items starting at the top of photo #2:

Grundfos water pump. The seller, who I know to be reliable, guarantees that it works perfectly. He removed it when he had to close a business because of COVID. I just helped my sister-in-law replace an identical one in a rental she owns, and the new one cost $647.00! This one was priced at $35.00. It is a disappointment that I couldn't have found this one in time, but now she has a cheap "insurance policy." :)
Allen Wrench set $1 (I bought it to put a set of USA tools in)
Lufkin "Wizard" 8 ft. tape measure $1 (I thought it might be a Western Auto version at first because the Lufkin name was obscured by a nail-polish pricing code)
Estwing Geologist hammer $1

A TOO resulted in:
Unmarked forged heavy-duty 2-1/4" C-clamp $1
Pacmyr #325 recoil pad (new) $1

An estate sale in the nearby larger city was in its third day, so it was picked over. It was 1/2 off day, so the prices were reasonable on the leavings. I spent $35.00 on everything shown in the photos #2-4.

Photo #2:
Drills in a stand
10R Vise Grips
Early Vise Grips, 1942 patent date with "patents pending"
Barcalo "scoop" 3/4 combo
Blackhawk 49983 1/2 dr. extension
Cornwell 1/2 dr. 1-1/4 12-pt socket
5/16 ignition wrench stamped "CAT #1522" (Who made it?)
Proto 3336 obstruction DOE wrench 9/16
Proto 3324 obstruction DOE wrench 3/8
Proto 5432 1/2 dr. 1" 8-pt socket
P&C 1810 10" pipe wrench (fills a vacancy in my set)
P&C 2716 1/2 combo
Mitee thread cutting oil (full)
Nibbler tool for sheet metal
Grease gun extension that locks on
Danielson BET'R-GRIP 8" adjustable
McKaig-Hatch pliers (factory auto tool kit for GM?)
ARTISAN spark plug gapping tool
Craftsman WF diamond chisel
Plomb USA 9784 #2 Phillips screwdriver
Plomb USA 9784 #2 Phillips screwdriver (note the difference in shaft size and length between the two. Ferrule has identical markings on both)
Plomb USA 1130 DBE 9/16 x 5/8

Photo #3 shows a tote tray that was a package deal. It had enough items of interest to make it worthwhile.

Photo #4 shows the tray with the dregs left in it. Mostly import sockets. The better stuff is laid out below it.
Top Row:
Proto 5024 3/8 dr. 3/4 deep 12-pt.
P&C 6024 1/2 dr. 3/4 12-pt.
Chrome Alloy 1/2 dr. 15/16 12-pt
Chrome Alloy 1/2 dr. 1" 12-pt
SK 48138 1/2 dr. 1-1/8 12-pt
brass fittings
thermometer

Second Row:
Craftsman -VV- 1/2 dr. 12-pt sockets. 5/8, 11/16, 13/16
Stamped steel spark plug socket with 3/4" hex drive
3/8" diameter tommy bar, appears to be Craftsman V era

Third Row:
McKaig-Hatch DOE 5/8 x 3/4
multi-meter clamp
No-name 1/4 dr. spinner

Fourth Row:
Vlchek (V-shield) DOE 1/2 x 9/16
triangular file with wood handle

Fifth Row:
Ford toolkit DOE
Pexto 3/16 belt punch

That’s a lot of tools added to the collection!

I hit up Habitat and scored some decent stuff. It looked like they cleaned out another old estate.

P&C open end, male 1/2” extension, snap on socket, Proto hose clamp socket (probably the gem of the bunch), part of a wrench kit, 1/4 Barcalo combo, Snap On and Bridgeport NY Telephone screwdrivers, wood chisel ( no id yet), Walworth 10” all metal pipe wrench, old Williams 6” adjustable, vintage Craftsman 1/2” drive 20” extension.

Also, two planes. One is a Sargent 710, bedrock type. The other one is a Stanley 60-1/2 P, with an extra iron.

I haven't gotten around to setting up the electrolysis bath yet, but will probably need to with this many of them.

My first run here at GJ.....a Wilson Filer that I picked up on the final day of a 3 day estate sale for $2. Still have to hit some of the tight spots I couldn't reach on the bench grinder.

I made a miscalculation this morning based on the weather forecast, skipping my usual flea market, primarily due its 45 minute drive, a disappointment exacerbated by the CINCHOUSE having gone gleefully off to play pickleball with her mates, heedlessly oblivious to my warning, and then having returned some couple few hours later gloating with nary a drop of rain having fallen.

But I made up for it just a few minutes ago, when I returned to an Estate Sale in my neighborhood, spotted while walking the dog. Despite the smell of cat (and when I say cat, I mean plural, and when I say plural, I mean urine or litter or both...) that permeated everything, including my COVID-19 mask, returning with these WWII GMTK-spec combination cut tinner's shears and a 9-wrench set of Powr-Kraft combination scoop wrenches from 1/2" to 1" (Lugz 2020_28).

I hardly ever go to Estate Sales, I bring home combination wrenches even less frequently, and I hardly ever buy chrome. But I couldn't break the 'never leave a complete or near-complete set of anything behind' rule, and I know there are some scoop wrench and Powr-Kraft fans here for a reason. Maybe I can turn these into some pocket cash.

How big is the 1/8 drive set for perspective? It looks like the size of a deck of cards?

...part of a wrench kit,

I picked up a partial Indestro wrench kit like that a couple of weeks ago. I'm missing the 1/2 & 5/16ths.

Today's find is a mash-up of 3/8dr swivels--one joint and four sockets. They all appear to be wartime production. $4 for the lot.

The swivel joint is a New Britain NB60-US

The swivel sockets are:
Wright MU 51-AC 7/16 with a -43 date
Williams 706410 11/16
Plomb WF-77 11/16 with a C code
Plomb WF-76 5/8 with a P code. This one has the UP Arrow-Plomb-Down Arrow--my first.
The stamps are very faint and are on the socket side. The other one has the stamps on the drive side and both arrows are down.

Can anyone point me to a decoder ring for WF codes?

Wf 77- is a military part number. Wf- Wright field was a military base where the quarter master was based out of and who was awarded the contract. It is simply the military part number stamped on the socket.

We went to a few garage sales today, and I found a couple of items. At one sale that was mostly small animal (rabbits, chickens, etc.) related they had also cleaned out some basement items and I found a Stanley 61 boxwood folding rule, a Stanley Handyman saw set, a Dikeman saw vise that is different than the other 2 or 3 Dikeman saw vises that I have, and a Proto 1/2" ratchet with an unmarked 3/8 adapter and a cheap 7/8 spark pug socket. In this bunch was included an Atkins saw handle that is slightly smaller than most. $5 for that bunch. At another sale I picked up an odd pliers or crimper tool that I found marked "Bell System" as I cleaned it up. An internet search found similar tools but didn't explain how it was used. It was only a dollar, and a lot of my tool "collection" is odd stuff that I bring home to figure out what it is. Also found, at another sale, a pile of books on local history for fifty cents each.

After a dental check this AM, I spotted a sale, and picked up these guys for a tenner.

The Walden set has a few extras, Williams deeps and extensions along with a Proto swivel. The blue box is empty and I think it was a Craftsman.

Can’t go wrong with a Walden set for that price. Looks like traces of the FSN on the lid so it likely started life as a wartime set.

Wf 77- is a military part number. Wf- Wright field was a military base where the quarter master was based out of and who was awarded the contract. It is simply the military part number stamped on the socket.

Thanks Smoke. I'm with you on the Wright Field info. I looked through AA hoping to find what the C & P codes might signify but came up dry. I was hoping someone could give me a vector.
