We went bust this weekend but on our way home from the Rickreal FM we came across a shop moving sale where half the shop was free on Sunday. (moving to Alaska)

Lots of free factory car/truck manuals/brochures, Harley books, Sansui Receiver, safety gas can and old German compass. The only thing that wasn't free was the compass for $2 so wallet came out unscathed.

I wonder why my google search turned up nothing relevant? Also, wonder if the patent was eventually given by the US Patent office?

Yeah, I thought it looked familiar, but I didn't have the right search term either. I am just used to using a brass caliper and knowing what shape I am measuring. Most gemstones are not calibrated perfectly, unless they are machine cut and maybe man made (moissanite, cubic zirconium, lab ruby etc).

google image view: "jewelers diamond gauge"

There are many different styles of gauges. Not the most expensive gauge out there.

example:

I did not need this... but I bought it anyways. $4.

I could have bought a double D carb socket, but I cheaped out.

I am not sure yet either. I found some things that might have led to it, but haven’t dug in that deep yet.

Most of what I’ve found leads to snippet view stuff. Need to use the computer instead of the iPad, and that’s too much like work right now.

On Friday, an estate sale company I like was having an emergancy cleanout type sale at a horderish place, so I had to go. I like the company as they tend toward the lower end of sales (digger type sales) and will give me good deals on garage type stuff. So, I filled a box and here is what I found:

A machined steel V-belt pulley, night latch lock, Plomb DBE and DOE wrenches, Duro ignition and auto-kit wrenches, lightbulb outlet adaptor, compression fittings, Leviton bulb socket, Blackhawk socket, spigot splitter, P&C drivers, Williams DBEs, vintage machinery oiler, Seahawks matches, household oils, radio repair guide, zigzag ruler.
And...

a Disston D-8, from '40-'47 All of that cost me $5.

After that, as I was heading toward my barbers, I notice a sale where I picked this up for $30

Dayton Electric 1/2 hp motor with Furnas drum switch. Runs smooth as silk. I had not been happy with the motor set up I have I my lathe, so this should allow me to do what I want very nicely.

On Saturday, I had put together a list of sales that looked very tasty, but as fate would have it, none of them were any good. But, I stopped at a used tool store, where I picked up the Proto torque screwdriver, two Plomb 1/4 sockets, a Proto Dyna ring socket, a Walden drive plug and a vintage corner scraper (not shown) for $10. And while on my way home spotted a TOO on the side of the road, where I picked up the two breaker bars (Proto LA and unmarked-possibly New Britain) and the Kraueter ratchet for $7. After that I hit my last planned stop, and antiques estate sale. Not much tools and the antiques, while very nice where priced to sit there. But, I did find a vintage ratcheting driver and an old dead bolt that goes "occupied/unoccupied" when you turn it! $4. So, a poor day that got better.

I had a pretty good weekend as far as getting tools. This came from 3 sales. 90% of it was from a guy who was selling all his father-in-law’s stuff.
IMG_0481.jpg
IMG_0476.jpg
Plomb stuff included a 3/8 drag link socket, a couple universal sockets, some pliers, and a slide hammer that is sadly missing one jaw.
IMG_0467.jpg
A roll of SK wrenches, an SK Wayne punch, a few sockets and screwdrivers, and a hex drive ratchet.
IMG_0472.jpg
Proto that is mostly mfd. USA era. The one on the left is Los Angeles and one socket is professional.
IMG_0474.jpg
Craftsman ranging from long c to =v=.
IMG_0469.jpg
A lot of Duro chrome, Indestro, and wizard sockets and a ChromeXQuality punch. There is an almost complete set of 1/2 drive wartime sockets. Also some xcelite nut drivers.
IMG_0470.jpg
Some power craft and wards master quality stuff.

I also got a bit of p&c including a ratchet and a couple chisels, a husky ratchet, several challenger sockets, two plumb hammers, and some Herbrand and Williams s shaped wrenches. All together it was about $80.

What is the part number in the Plomb pliers? I have been working on a display board and missing a couple slip joints for it if you are willing to trade/sell them off.

Went to a flea market today. Lots of cool stuff, brought home a couple things. Convertible (converts to a bicycle - a small penny farthing) tricycle. Small vise $10, HUGE pulley $25. Wilton 3.5" 101020 a bit more.... Lots of little stuff that I didn't yet photograph. I'm running behind...IMG_20200906_113532.jpegIMG_20200906_123645.jpgIMG_20200906_121726.jpgIMG_20200906_123832.jpg

This weekend wasn't bad for sales. I had to spend Saturday working on a property, but did get to one sale early that morning. I missed the local flea market, but from Davefr's post earlier, I didn't miss much.

I put some of the longer/larger items in one photo at the end. I'll mention them as I go along, but you have to look there to see them.

The first photo shows a couple of last week's finds, plus the first few items of Friday's hunt:
Last Week $10.00 total:
4 mud flaps
Kant-Twist 420 6" Clamp

Friday Garage Sales $6.00 total:
Milton Air Regulator
Battery Carrier
Clam Rake (in last photo)

Friday Estate Sale. This was one I overlooked, and I got there about 11:00 and it had been picked over. The tools were in a shed with a dirt floor, and nothing had been washed or cleaned since the Beginning of Time. I did find some interesting items, and prices were not bad. I spent $30.00 total that day. Photos #2 & 3:
Jet JSG-1 Belt and Disc Sander (1x42 belt). It was covered with dirt and sawdust, and there was no power to test it with. I took a chance, and it turned out OK. When I got it home it just buzzed when switched on, but it seemed like the motor was just stalled. I went through the system, and found that the sanding belt had glued itself to the drive wheel. Once I freed that up, it ran! I did have to take it apart enough to find that both the motor and sanding belt pulleys were missing their set screws. Luckily, both were 1/4 x 20 and I had some in my stuff. The bracket for the disc table had been installed improperly, but repositioning it and adding two 5/16 bolts brought everything into proper position. That is even the same sanding belt that was on it when I found it! I will have to replace it when I first use it.

Photo #3 is the other stuff I found there.
Froe for making roofing shakes (I picked this one because it is the first one I have ever seen that hadn't been beat to death with a steel hammer. You are supposed to hold the handle with one hand and place the edge where it will split the shake from the "bolt", or block of wood you are splitting. You then drive the blade of the froe through the bolt with a wooden mallet. If you use a steel hammer, it peens the back side of the blade and flares it out. As I said earlier, unmolested froes are very rare! (in last photo)
Lock Ring Bar for older truck wheels (in last photo)
Sewing Awl
Utica No. 82 short needle nose pliers
Model A Ford auto wrench by Moore Drop Forge
Hinsdale DBE 1-1/16 x 1-1/4
Williams Superrench No. 70639 DBE 15/16 x 1"
New Double Bit Axe handle (in last photo)

I went back to this sale on Sunday afternoon to see if anything was left. I found a few things for a total of $4.00:
Chain Hook
Harrold Pliers
Jote torque wrench. 5/16 hex socket, and the label says "60"
Dipstick with proper graduations for my farm gas tank

Saturday I went to another estate sale. I was the second one there, and although it had advertised "tools" it was mostly a builder's skilsaws and similar items. Everything was marked with high prices. No wrenches or collectible tools. Except! I found a Long-C Craftsman (Reed-sourced) pipe threading set that had no price marked. I took it over to the lady and asked "how much"? She asked what it was, and I said a pipe threader. She started interfacing with her phone, so I assumed she was checking Ebay pricing, so I went back to looking around. When I came back empty-handed, she said "ten dollars", to which I replied, "Look at all the missing dies! Five dollars." SOLD!!! The set has dies and guides for 1/2", 3/4", and 1" pipe and all are in good shape. When I cleaned the dirt and grease off the rack, I see a Heritage label was slapped on it, so it is a transition piece. Photos #4 & 5.

Again, the long stuff is in Photo #6.

All in all, I had a good weekend!

It was pretty bad. About 1/2 the pre C-19 vendors and virtually no tools except for the guy in the side room that's always way overpriced.

A friend was at an Estate Sale and picked up this Colt Batavia Bar Clamp to give to me. He paid $3 for it.

Thanks pfaustus. Definitely the first one I have ever seen. Here's a pic of the other side of the plane. It also has Sweetheart era cutters.

Clean the end of the slide on top and look for markings. Sometimes they are faint. I suspect its a Sweetheart Era Stanley
