The blue one with the spring and the decal says "SUPREME." Anyone know who (other than Blue-Point) used that brand name?

attachment.php

I have a similar one only marked Japan, stamped on the ferrule. Not a high quality one, may have not belonged to a major company, rather marketed at the bargain bin, but with a name trying to inspire confidence.

There were two good looking sales in the area today, so while I didn't try to get there first (I hate standing in line) but still, I found some interesting things. From the first sale, a family run affair:

Blue Point obstruction wrench (E), Plomb deep socket, Proto LA impact, Proto Pro hex socket, what I thought was a Proto BP, Williams long tappet, Plomb/Proto combo, and a Clevland Twist reamer in box. $10

The other sale, an estate sale run by a decent company, seemed to have half the town there, but I still managed to find the goodies:

Starrett 9" centerfinder, Jorgensen DP clamp, Armstrong DBE, Proto 3/8" socket spinners, Plomb pebble cabinet driver, Pex Stow and Wilcox 4" adjustable, Plomb 1-5/16" combo and

Disston dovetail saw, made between 1896-1917. All of that for $24.

Regarding the little black vise I posted a couple days ago, it IS a Stanley Sweetheart, model 763 2" jaws. Missing one jaw, anyone have one? Also I ran across this other cute little Stanley over the past weekend, it was NFS, but I REALLY liked it, never have I seen one like this before, online or in real life. Is it special?

That deserves a you ****. The big Plomb is worth that alone. Also another Plomb driver!

SWMBO came back from morning errands to tell me about a swap meet down at the corner used car lot AND an estate sale sign at the corner near the house. The sale wasn't ready to open yet, so I'll be heading back in a little bit. The swap meet vendors were still setting up, but I found this Danielson Mfg Co No 2 rawhide hammer on one guy's $1 tarp. I picked it up because I thought it was a Greene & Tweed Defense Hammer under the grime (ref my restored version in the last pic). With similar designs, I wonder if Danielson also had a wartime contract for hammers....paging Private Lugnutz....b973908e6bf3730819ff10b2f21e878b.jpga167c21e0b618ebae1b195bad1574564.jpgb2535c68d812b169b1a726ea86242edb.jpg

Headed out this morning to the pandemic-delayed Cetronia community yard sale. It was a bit less than half-strength, compared to other times I’ve gone. The mask-rate among shoppers was pretty good, but among the sellers it was alarmingly low. I stuck it out for an hour and a half, spent $5, and came home. It’s not that there wasn’t anything of interest, nor were the prices unfair, but I don't go out to pay fair prices. I looked over a C’man Crowntop machinist chest in apparently original brown crinkle paint, a trio of patent-pending (I think the quick-release button) C’man ratchets, a 1/4dr Snap-on rat with a flip top, spit shank and square black plastic handle, a medium size Wilton bullet. None of that came home.
Just a 0-9 stamp set in basswood box, a flying-V plain steel slip-joints, and a Blue-Point small snips (w loose rivet).
Nice to get out on a cool sunny morning, but now I’ve got even more reason to organize my space.

Went to an ES today in a very nice neighborhood and found some stuff. The garage had a lot of hand tools (for a $1.3 million house in Harding Township).

I found a 1/4" Craftsman =v= ratchet with the "flying v" selector and a 4" JP Danielson "Betr Grip" adjustable wrench to add to the 4" adjustable collection.

I'm wavering on flipping the ratchet - even though it's cool.

Cheers

Jim

3Bay, what is the size on the Gedore? Is it metric? Years ago I found a wood handled WERA in 9mm at the swap. I only use it on Huret derailers but I love that thing. Over the years I pick up any wood handled metric spinners I find.

Neat. Turns out it’s a 7/16.

I like how the herbrand has the 6point style open end.

Same here.

Have to agree with you Outlaw. I’m also digging the 4 inchers, the Vlchek pliers, and the old Proto/Plomb.

Still slow here but there was one estate sale and 2 yard sales.

I got the cymbals and glass vial from the estate, and the hot wheels and knives from one yard sale. $11 all told

Pretty sure the Cymbals are US made I can barely see the ghost of a makers mark and I think I recognize it? Zildjian?

A couple stops in a couple days.

Goodwill came through for me (Wow, for once some tools!). Old S-K 1/2 drive extension handle breaker bar for 4 bucks, and a nice set of Cleveland Drill easy outs, minus the tiniest and most useful of course , for 3 bucks. I left a handful of Walden Spintites I was tossing over at a buck apiece, I never really got into those.

Then today, dragged my woman out for some flea market fun. The tamales we had  turned out to be way better than the tools though. Sorry no food pics!

Found a few items at the few vendors out on a kind of rainy yet much more comfortable day.

-First stand, spotted this Keen Kutter hatchet.

-another guy had the tiny Craftsman heritage box. Not sure what came in there. Has a dent, but works good, and clean. I’ll make use of it for small items.

- looked through some old wrenches and left with a P&C speeder, Craftsman Long C torch wrench, and a small clamp.

3bay I like the box!

but a work of warning on those green krinkle painted clamps - I bought a set new "back in the day" and one broke pretty easily, and the others were not the usual Craftsman quality. I don't know what went wrong with Sears procurement on those, but unless needed to complete a set for some reason - not good users...

We checked out three Tahoe area sales this morning. My wife picked up some books at the first one but there weren’t any tools I wanted. The second sale was ridiculously overpriced but I picked up two Channellock adjustables anyway. The last stop was an estate sale we hit a month ago but I found a few more tools including some Vlchek DBE wrenches, a 1943 Ridgid pipe wrench and an early Disston hand saw.

I feel like I’m getting behind in my postings—yesterday I had a great day but haven’t posted these finds from Wednesday:

The sale was an hour south of San Antonio and boasted a lot of rusty gold including a Peter Wright anvil that looked in excellent condition and a couple of small vises. They only let six people in the garage and I didn’t make it in the first scrum. Two of us were standing in the #7 position and we did rock/paper/scissors for the honors and I won. :bounce:
The anvil was bought immediately in the first group. The vises turned out to be an off-shore Craftsman and a no-name for more cash than I wanted to part with.

I saw the Armstrong box but when I opened it, none of the contents were Armstrong. Then, when I saw all these Armstrong tools individually priced, I asked the guy in charge to let me switch out the current contents for the actual Armstrong items. He wasn’t really gung-ho about the idea but ultimately agreed.

10 Sep 20-1b.jpg10 Sep 20-1d.jpg10 Sep 20-1c.jpg

The Armstrong tools are all from the late 70’s/early 80’s and the box may be also, but I haven’t found any reference to the box or what the 43-243 Tool Set might have included. This is what is pictured (everything is 3/8dr):

Metric sockets from 38-119 to 38-109 (19mm-09mm)
11-903 Ratchet
11-916 Flex Handle
11-922 3” Extension
11-923 6” Extension
11-938 Sliding T
11-947 Universal Joint

It appears the box itself was taken apart and the bottom was spray bombed silver while the top look like it retains the remnants of a dark greenish paint. With the way the handle is secured to the box, I’m unsure if it is original.

Included in the deal was a J.H. Williams S-51 Superratchet
Two Williams ½dr ST-824 ¾” 8pt sockets—both had a coat of yellow latex paint over a coat of orange oil based paint. Only the double groves hinted at Williams manufacture.
Proto Professional 5240 slotted screwdriver bit
Proto Professional 5241 #2 Phillips bit
An unmarked all steel 3” square

The square was $1.50, the Williams sockets were $1 each and everything else was $20.

10 Sep 20-1g.jpg10 Sep 20-2a.jpg10 Sep 20-2c.jpg

I went into the house and bought a Resistol straw cowboy hat for $16—it’s Texas! Before leaving, I poked around in the garage again and came up with the Ford wrench ($2) and the three CM =v= Cadmium open ends ($1 each).

Best day all summer, and it's almost done.

Outlaw, isn't that marking on the cymbal the signature of the drummer for the Grateful Dead? Or at least close enough I can picture someone trying to convince a DeadHead of the provenance!

I came up with two drummers for the GD; neither looks close

But you made me look!

There were more garage sales today than I remember in years, but I somehow only bought two items.

First one was a Suhner mini angle die grinder. I have been thinking about trying my hand at porting a few chainsaws, and this was too perfect timing to pass up. Best part, only paid $7. Looked it up online and they sell for almost $800 on Amazon.
View media item 106602
Second one was something I have been needing for years. It was new in box, $15. I had to ask her twice to make sure she wasn't saying something else.

Installed it as soon as I got home.

Not a bad haul for a total spent of $22.

Hope I'm not overstepping here, as I found 3 of the 4 contract books on Googlebooks.
HTML:
Not at all, gpw_42, thanks! I appreciate the reference, although none does not appear to be a copper hammer. Hmmm, I like a good mystery.

I made it to the opening and closing of the estate sale just down the road from me. My regular running route has taken me by this house regularly for the past ten years. The yard used to be just crammed with overgrown junk, but since last winter, the property's been getting cleaned up and I've been collecting freebies from the curbside pile for the last few months.

The garage was the focus today. This is one of those family run sales where nearly every single item was individually tagged and priced. Even the sockets were bagged in groups of 4-5 and marked. Usually, that means there're no hidden gems, but in this case, the prices were only a little high for an estate sale.

Apparently, the family moved out all of the nice tools during the clean up--what was left was mostly a little rusty. I picked up the following for $15.

Two Craftsman screwdrivers, one with the bar code shrink wrap still on the handle
Stankey 8-ft tape measure
Indestro Super and Snap-on DBEs
Proto Professional 5668 3/4" breaker bar
P&C N-90 DBE
MATCO BH40 40oz ball pein--I got lucky with this one. I fished its rusty head out of a $1-a-hammer box and didn't find it to be a MATCO until I wirebrushed it at home.

ecb339109dfd73540772d649df26ec82.jpgc71d236c1324ccdbd3eae88ba80d664e.jpg

I left behind this old Snap-on tool chest marked at $35. It was a bargain, but needed more attention than I have right now. I left it for someone else.

8be2d7cd98503b1bbfe3232aef0d26b9.jpg

After spending the middle of my Saturday on an Eagle Scout project, I stopped in again on the way home and found some more treasures for another $10.

A whole can of drill bits, reamers and machinist tooling, including an unused Pohl 1" end mill
Crescent LTB 3032 DBE
Even bigger ball pein w/ broken handle, thrown in for free
Channel lock 420 & 440 slip jaw pliers
A genuine Diamalloy green-handled 8" adjustable wrench--my first find in the wild for one of these. Too rusty and beat up to bring big money, but might offset some of my outlay today.68662dacf2e21f9400c012f75a4a4c4f.jpg

SWMBO and I will stop by again tomorrow for any more bargains. They still had a whole tray full on US-made Visegrips marked at $3 a piece. I'm almost at my Visegrip capacity, but if I can get a good deal on these, I may get there.

Thanks. I actually have a set of the older green clamps, but haven’t done much with them and thought about selling them numerous times. Also have the black set I bought new.

Sorry I’m not much help on your cymbal. The names coming to mind from my band days and my friends are Zildjian and Sabian.

If you even think that looks like a hand signature it might be worth taking to a music store.

Boy, things are really starting to pick up around this thread!

Thanks Provincial--I thought the bottom was sprayed because even the latches were painted the same.

Three stops yesterday. First was a bust, second was marginal and therefore went to the third even though I knew it was the first day of mostly high end Snap-on.

Second stop scored an S-K Diamond 42470 ½dr fine tooth ratchet and five sockets: two Penens, a Williams deep Cadmium, a New Britain and a Craftsman circle H.

I wasn’t too keen on going to the third sale because they were advertising mostly Snap-on to be sold as sets only. But because it was still early when I had finished the planned sales, I decided just to go and see what they had. They had a lot—a lot of Snap-on. I would venture to say the value of the tools was equal to the value of the house itself—not exaggerating.

But the best part—for me—was that if it wasn’t shiny and marked Snap-on, they were practically giving it away. Now, there was only one box of what I consider interesting (i.e. vintage) tools. It was being completely ignored so I parked myself in front of it and starting going through it.

First to catch my eye was the Plomb 4795 socket set box. It had several Plomb sockets and the sliding T, so I started carefully searching for other Plomb sockets and tools. I found a couple more sockets, and the two WF universal sockets (WF-73 & 74—Sorry Roy, no 72!) but no ratchet or spinner.

Next was an L.S. Starrett 12” Outside Caliper with fine adjustment.
The combination square is a Goodell-Pratt No.4 but the protractor and center finder are L.S.Starrett.
Several other Starrett pieces—the fishtail centering gauge, 3” rule, steel protractor (missing the ruler) and empty ruler case.

11 Sep 20-1b.jpg

The thick 6” rule is Miller’s Falls as is the third screwdriver bit—the others are Irwin, Stanley and Fuller .

I couldn’t find any info on the Herschel alligator wrench—there’s a “1” cast into the reverse.

11 Sep 20-1c.jpg

The little open end wrench is a Long C Craftsman CI
Cute little wood handle screwdriver and a General Tool Scriber.
All of that from the garage for $10.

They had the house stuffed with all manner of things and I came out with never-been-used Channellock 348-1/2 Lineman dikes, two unused 6” buffer wheels and a 3” Starrett inside caliper. All for $7.

Not a bad day!

So not Zildjian cymbals -(Pic close up and darkened gave me more detail, if not an ID) and google says probably not US (Zildjian is not -I did not know that...) and I didn't find ANY US cymbal makers?

Any drummers out there? It lookes like "The ????"

Sent from my garage.
