Photo 1 stands alone. I have only found one like it.

Photo 2 and 3 go together and I have a pile of them.

The boxes are still sealed but there are others that have been opened.

I have more to go through and I will post more pictures.

Is there a more appropriate thread for this?

Wade

What Lugz said is correct, you could post your militaria parts and tool finds but another thread would be correct. You can start one!

Thanks for asking; I don’t see a problem. As Lugz wisely suggests, if you want to make an intricate and complete analytic series, creating your own thread makes it your own show, and would reduce interruptions.
But if your ambition is less expansive, I’m sure there is plenty of interest here.

Got a full size traffic light for helping a buddy move two cars out of the abandoned garage that he bought.

I bought a simulator off ebay to power the lights. I'll clean it up and the hang it from the ceiling for a decor.

Thanks! They do qualify. I bought an entire room for $10 at an auction because I spied some large Ammo cans. The cans were full of these packages of preserved bolts.

BTW, forgot to post this the other day. Finally got these Metro-style wire racks out of my Grandfather's basement (same place the monkey wrenches came from).

My Grandfather (RIP) got them when his employer (jewelry industry) closed in the late 80s or early 90s. They're a different brand (not Metro).

There's one more still is his old basement that I need to go and get (ran out of room on the trailer). They'll need a major cleanup before I put them in my basement. SNIP

I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree after all!

Is there a thread dedicated to free stuff (which is similar but different than finding great stuff cheap at garage sales)?

IDK, Maybe. Getting free stuff that you repurpose in your own workspace would be a fit on several threads on the site.
It really is no problem here, though. For some folks, getting stuff free is a crow-worthy rarity, for others, it’s routine.
Most of my acquisitions occur at flea markets, especially this year. I love a community yard sale, too (less opportunities this year), and the occasional TOO estate sale (I don’t hunt for them).
Don’t hesitate to post free stuff. Curb finds, dumpster saves, neighborly gifts - they’re all welcome here.

My bad - Target Of Opportunity.
The acronym has been used by others, so I didn’t think to spell it out.
I used to spot them driving the kids around to their activities. Now they drive themselves, so I don’t spot as many.

Most of us map out from CL or other posted ads for yard and Estate sales, but if we see signs driving from one planned store to another, and hit it, its a TOO.

Derived from fighter and bomber lexicon. - had ammo/bombs left over and hit a Target of Opportunity not planned for...

Thanks! But, I tend not to take stuff I can't use. Unfortunately, I've probably thrown things away that weren't actually junk because I tend to be at least somewhat picky. Not that my wife would agree...

It's all crow-worthy to me, simply because I don't go looking for free stuff (curbs and dumpsters), although I've seen people pull unbelievable things from those places. Plus, the stuff I've saved from going to the dumpster at work is shockingly valuable.

We missed out on a town-wide curb alert a few months ago. We put out a bunch of old outdoor kids' toys, and they eventually disappeared.

He should start his own thread for more expansive discussion but still post the finds here. Did anyone say Jerry cans?[emoji23]

Just in time for Veteran's Day! Let's see those veteran bolts!

The cans were full of these packages of preserved bolts.
Serious Military Vehicle Preservation Association guys go crazy for original fasteners, you know. Originality counts for points in judged contests, every nut and bolt matters, and they can be hard to find. You should make an inventory by SNL number.

BSA thread is calling you!

I've got that same Coleman filter. Outlaw and I had a discussion about them a few years ago. They can be a little rare, not unicorn-y, and not fat wad of cash rare, but desirable to Coleman guys. Mine is a shelf-adorner.

If you're not keeping the Keen Kutter die stock, put it in my future trade pile.

I bought a Kwik Lathe on-the-car disk brake lathe for $40. I went to pick it up and got to talking with the guy about cars in general. He had an amazing shop with 5-6 big tool boxes. He says, "hey, i have a bunch of tools that i'm just going to get rid of. Would you be interested in them?" So i say yea, i'll take a look.

He shows me a couple of timing lights, a dwell-tach, and an engine analyzer. I'm like, "yea if you're just going to throw them out." Then, he says, well I have some old air tools that I'm also going to toss. He has a plastic garbage can that is about half full of impacts and air ratchets. I tried to pay him, but he says, no, just take them. It took both of us to load it into my truck!

Milwaukee, Bluepoint, Mac, Husky, a couple of Snap on, Craftsman, and Central Pneumatic.

Crazy score!!

The midget Cornwell is a 1/4 drive body with a 3/8 drive plug.

I have a couple of those. They are my favorite stubby ratchets.

Not a garage sale find. Phone call from a friend asking if I would like some end mills they were cleaning up and found some in a storage room.
I said I would but I really looking to reduce the amount of stuff I have.
Well...so much for that idea.

I thanked him for thinking of me.

There were a total of 30 different air tools. Mostly impacts and 3/8" ratchets. About 20 of them worked fine. Some were basket cases. There was a Snap On 3/8" ratchet and a Snap On 3/8" butterfly. There were 2 - 3/4" Milwaukee impacts that both needed tune ups.

I don't know what the story was. I tried to give the guy some money, but he just said he wanted them out of his garage. I think he had been collecting them for a long time and they were just gathering dust in the bin?

Super nice guy.

A neighbor put this out for the garbage this evening.

I got it running - poorly - with fresh gas, cleaning the spark plug and a sprtiz of brake cleaner.

I've had good luck using Gumout or similar fuel additives to clean out the carb., I drain the gas, put additive in the t, turn over a few times get the additive everywhere without actually running the engine and let sit. Then drain the additive and fill with fresh fuel mix. Works more often than not.

Some serious suckage going here!

CMC with his collection of air tools, I thought i got a steal with 2 snap on impacts for $50 back in the days and you come away with a 50 gallon drum full for free!

TM Nice haul right there! I dig the Boy Scout forks, being an eagle scout myself I remember looking at those items as a kid. I wasn't able to purchase them and usually stole a fork from the kitchen when I went hiking.

Leonard I take it you have a mill setup, I got a few items floating around my garage but no mill to use them so they sit and collect dust as I like looking at them.

DK, I've had the same results as Prospector said, it seems to loosen up stuff in the carb to allow it to blow out. But in the end I've always had better results in getting a new carb for them. But free with a 20-30 dollar carb is still a steal!

Wow there have been some great finds out there. Great job everyone! Just goes to show that even in these crazy times there are still some deals to be found!

I have some less impressive things to share but will share them anyway.

I picked two tool bags and a workmate stand from my favorite dumpster last week. The stand is almost new, I saw the guy throw it in and was sure he was just moving it out of his way to get the trash it of the back of his truck, but then he closed his tailgate and drove away! I took the dog for a stroll thinking maybe he made a mistake and would come back for it, when we passed by again I went and checked it out and he had thrown it on top of the tool bags, one of which had the craftsman light and saw in it. I picked up the barely used items and brought them home.
Also in the bag was a set of clip in pedals, an apron and the corded circular Skil saw. Saw works but is in rough shape, it will be my firewood saw. I don't have the right battery for the craftsman anymore, mine died long ago and I have since upgraded.PXL_20201108_005611675.jpgPXL_20201111_170105801.jpg

Would agree with those comments. This rachet has a great feel and sound. I think it is going to become my go-to 3/8" flex.
