If the associates scans it at a penny with the handheld, they are suppose to take it. I had that happen.
I told an associate to find a mgr, and explain that if it is on the sales floor it is for sale, and if not removed was the fault of the MET team. If the customer finds it, their "win." I went from associate, to sup, to store manger who agreed with me and said it was their fault for not removing. $100 rain coat for a penny.
Then two weeks later, I saw four lights on the shelf marked with a shelf sticker for a penny. That I had never seen.
And why not let a customer feel happy (its not likely repeatable even if he told someone), because the alternative is that perfectly good product going in their garbage compactor.
Last week I didn't pick up a clearance item I had been eyeing that there were several of & no one was going to buy. Talked to the mgr on duty when I couldn't located, and he said he watched them go into the compactor 2 days prior. Perfectly good drain cleaning drum replacements ($100 down to $25), now garbage.
