Well they finally posted a CL ad for the local Flea, and ONE possible YS (which was a dud...), so a short day... Not too bad al in all despite that.
Last find first: this guy had a mad mix of things but a few older items. I saw this adn was "OK what is it?":
Interesting Markings:
Up Close:
1912 Patent? so what is it?
Opened it up and at fits glance I'm thinking "portable ashtray, maybe that's a cigar holder? - then I see the other rings...
Aha! A collapsing cup! With a handle, so good for coffee!
Three Bucks? No Brainer!
But the Big find was another place and table. This box was under the table and drew me in for a closer look...
And than I saw the tray and all the tools on the table! I immediately spotted the BE ratchet and confirmed its Long C. The sockets were NOT in the rial so I put them there to se if it looked reasonably complete...
It was an all or nothing deal she's asking $35 - Would not take $30 (so I racked the sockets to see and checked all the long C pieces...) I figured the 1/4 boxed set was a bonus, and who finds 2 breakers this old WITH the Tommy bars?
OK Deal! paid up and boxed it up! about 45ish pieces, so well under a buck each! I'm happy! the only thing that might have made this better is if this was an Amber handled set. (still hoping against hope there... - I've yet to see one piece in the wild)
Most all is Craftsman long C, but one is BE, (the right sliding Tee is Circle H) the 1/4 ratchet is an unmarked Plvmb, the plated stuff is Indestro, Blackhawk, Powrcraft, and a couple of unplated Thorsen deeps, and the 3/8 breaker is also Thorsen. Wire forming pliers are not marked. That big pin? an old Kingpin!
ALL of it is filthy with a dry dust I need to clean. Oh YES! the tag with a string? It's from Sears, marked in pencil for $21.95, and the tag has a form date of 1943!
All in all, a fun pick!
