There's a door from inside the garage that goes directly into the house. Thats why I deleted the one on the porch.

Thanks for asking.........
My contractor came by today to check the walls for level and put the sill plates on. He checked it with a level and it was only 1/16" in any of the places he checked. Which was at all the bolts.

Here are a couple of pictures of what they did.

Settingsillplates001.jpg

Settingsillplates002.jpg

He also pulled down the soffit and a corner board to see where the top plate is so he can measure for the wall hieght. It looks like I will have 12' + from the floor to top plate. The reason I will get that much is because the second floor has 2x10 joists with a top plate that the roof rafters sit on. which gives me the extra hieght. He said he might be able to get more but I will have to see what it will look like on the outside. I don't want it to look funky.
We are waiting for the trusses to be done. They will be dilivered next week. He is building a house in the next town over and he's roofing it. He has a man lift he will use to put up the trusses here but also needs to get the roof done. He's great to work with so he said he would like to finnish the roof so he could move the lift only once. When he finnishes the roof he will be here until the garage is done unless we have weather bad enough to prevent him working here.
Before he left he took some measurements for the door and window headers. We still need to discuss where I want the door to enter the house from the garage. Hopefully it all goes as planned.

Looking really good. I bet you can't hardly stand it. So are you planning on putting in a lift with that type of height that you will have?

Wayne, this is looking good. Feels good to see it progressing and you are getting close to the point where it will really take off and start going quickly. I'm looking forward to seeing this all come together.

Me too Larry!!
Got some framing lumber delivered today. They will be here tomorrow to start the framing.

Lumberdelivery001.jpg

Doesn't look like much does it.

We also had the engineer from the electric company come by and tell us where we could put the temp power for the house. It had to be moved because it would run right over the garage roof which is a no no. They did let me put a single temp service where I thougt we would need two poles. As long as the inspector alows the power to run on the ground in PVC temporarlly.

Diging this was the most fun I've had for a long time. My wife and kids are like mother hens when I do something ever sense I had to quit working. First my wife comes home and wants to help. So I gave her the 5' bar to break up the wash out from the concrete truck. She was doing pretty good but I told her to go in the house it was raining lightly. So she goes in the house and sits in the bay window to keep an eye on me to make sure I'm ok. So my two bosses of the house watched me dig.

Then my daughter shows up and wants to help so I used the bar and she used the post hole digger. Trying to teach her to use them was like the Keystone cops out there. She was getting mad every time she only brought up a stone which only made me laugh more. Which she didn't think was funny. lol I told her it took 2 hours to dig 3' 1/2 hour for me to do the first 2-1/2 feet then 1-1/2 hours for the last 6" with her help. I had such a good time out there with them.

That is some good memories you will have associated with the garage. The digging holes gave me a good laugh. I'm doing similar things with my grand-kids, who live with us, each day when I get home. I wish my son was here to be more involved, he's in college down near San Diego. So I send him updates and pictures and we call and talk about it.

The will get going and now things will look different quick as they start framing.

Thanks m.james
Well we had a good day today got three of the four walls up. The only one not up is one that ties into the house in the back its only eight ft' long. Here are some more pictures of the progress.
I'm the skinny guy in the gray shirt.

And here's the guy who had the worst job of the day. The electrician

Framinggoingup008.jpg

Framinggoingup007.jpg

I drilled a hole in a 2x4 to help him by holding t he ground rod from bouncing all over the place. But still glad I didn't have to do it.
Tomorrow they will finnish the last wall and sheet them . We need an inspection from the electrical dept. Then he sends the ticket to the power company to inspect it . Then they put in for a demo permit from elec. co. Then they come to move the power wire to the temp service. I don't even want to think how long this deal is going to take. The top of the front wall is already touching the telephone wires and the power is only 3-4 feet higher. If i would have known It was like this procewss I would have put the temp sewtup in a long time ago. But thier engineer didn't mention it until Wednesday. You got to love it!

Wayne, this is awesome progress. I really like the work they have done. Its looking great. I have the same Makita radio that I use here. You mean you didn't hold the ground rod? I don't blame you, LOL, I wouldn't have either. The electrician does need to invest in an Eritech rod driver. I used to do it that way also, but I got OLD:lol_hitti! Keep up the GREAT work.

No more staying around when someone pounds on something that can have pieces shear off it. 5 Years ago I was driving in a pavement breaker bit to soften up the ground for some grade stakes and a piece the size of a thumb nail clipping broke off and went in my thiegh about 4". I had to be brought to the hospital because we couldn't get it to stop bleeding. Then I had to have surgery to remove it. Better to cluck and run like a chicken then go through that again.lol

Looking out the garage door from the front of the house.

These pictures are of the temp power we're hoping the elec. inspector passes so we can get a demo permit from the power co. Then they put you on the list to get it done. Any body in Ma have any pull with National Grid??? If this doesn't happen soon we will be dead in the water. The power is only 3-4' above the top of the front wall.

Wayne, that's alot of progress for just a couple of days. Its looking great. It looks like they did a great job tying the back wall into the house. I hope all goes well the switching the power service. Those wheels turn slow. I'm still waiting for the paper work for an aerial right of way, before they can set a pole. Once that's done I will be digging a trench. Ive been very nice to my neighbors the last few months. As far as the cable and phone goes are you going to try to route them the same as the power? Again, it looks great.

Yes the cable will be from the pole to the peak of the gable end right below the power. As far as the Phone wire, I have the cable bundle so the old phone wire is extra right now. I may just remove it sence its not doing anything.

It's really looking good and starting to come together Wayne. I hope your power company can move a little quicker than mine did out here. Looking forward to reading all is well and they passed it for you. Good luck!

Thanks everyone.
If they take too long for the power I'll end up having to let him go work on his house until they move it sense its not his fault. He's coming Monday to sheet the front gable truss on the ground and put the rake boards on it before he installs it. Then he will try to put the front porch up to stay busy.
Russ no extra room over the garage. Where it attaches to the roof is a bed room and it has a closet that runs the full 13' along the dividing wall so there would be no way access to it. Its just me and the wife now anyway, with two upstairs bed rooms that are 21'x13'6"w plus one more down stairs 13'6x13'6 so plenty of room already.
