They made a little progress today. They strapped the trusses to keep them straight untill I put the sheetrock in later on after the wiring and budget recover. They also did some of the vinyl on the front of the garage. They stopped short of the top because I have two gable end vents ordered for the peaks . They are suposed to be here Monday morning.

Here are a few pictures of what they did today.

The camara makes the vinyl look a little funky bit its straight.

They also got a delivery of pressure treated for the porch deck.

Wayne, All the work looks great. I might have missed it, but what ceiling height will you have? Also are your contractors taking the bay window out, or will you be doing that?

Thanks! The ceiling height is going to be right around 12' . My contractor is taking the window out, he is also putting in a door into the house in the same spot. It is going to start at the right side of the window and is going towards the left.

I love it. I would love to do something similar to enclose (and widen) my one car carport on the end of my house.

Wayne, Everything is looking sharp. Looks like they are about to finish. Those Gable vents look very nice and changed the looks of the front. I like those.

Good progress. Those gable end vents really pull it all together with the dual peaks. It all flows very nicely to the front door. It is looking very sharp Wayne.

My wife would beg to differ on that one. lol

They finnished all the vinyl on front of the house. They just need to finnish the trim on the bottom of the window, the stairs and rails and the front is done. They had some vinyl to do on the back wall that got done too. They have a small section to tie into the house with red cedar shingles and the outside is done. I called a guy to install the garage door. Waiting to hear back from him with a price on the install and the high lift track set up.
Next thing left is the removal of the bay window and install the door into the house, and trim the front door with Azek.

Here are a couple of pictures.

Just to compare.

Wayne, The garage and front of the house looks great. I was wondering if you were going to put the siding on the house as well. It looks like a totally different place. It really looks very nice. Congrats.

Thanks guys. I am excited its almost done now. They have some trim under the bay window to finnish then that side is done. Monday they will remove the window in the garage and put in the door to replace it.
I have a couple of overhead door guys coming to give me a price to install the door. Maybe with a high lift track kit, depending on the price.
Next week the electrician is giving me a price to put in the load center in the garage and feed the house from there. He'll put in anycode required wiring in the garage and the rest will be for me to finnish.

Here are some pictures

Couple quick questions for you Wayne. Is there a reason why they did three rows of 2X6s on the bottom of the walls. I saw that two of them got bolted in and then the third was framed in and nailed to the bottom two. And the second question is were did you get the trusses from? I have heard of Reliable Trusses out of New Bedford. Was wondering if you got them there or if there was another company locally.

Hockey35x On the three 2xs I think it was to make it easier to get the wall section up there sinse the concrete is 30" high. It would have been tuff getting the holes for the j bolts lined up being so high off the floor. The siding on the outside is nailed to all three 2xs.
The trusses were made by
Quick Build Truss company

Sounds good didn't know if the 3 2xs were some type of funky mass state code or something. Thanks for the info on the truss company I will have to look into them. Don't know when I will build mine but always good to have some research done.

Mondays progress. We worked on the bay window today it was almost impossible to open it had sagged so much in the twenty years its been there. We jacked it up and tightened the cables that hold it plus we shimmed the braces that are under it. It works fine now. ( I forgot how easy it opened. ) Then we trimmed it out with Azek pvc board ( no more painting. ).
Next they removed the bay window in the garage and installed the door. I didn't get pictures of the install, I was at the doctors. I had to take them later on . Sorry for the pictures taken in the dark but here they are.

progresspicturesMonday001.jpg

This is from in the garage side. Tomorrow we get stairs. The hole you see to the right of the door was so we could get to the out let to move the wire without disturbing the plaster.

progresspicturesMonday002.jpg

Now from in the house. I still need to insulate and blue board and get someone to skimcoat it. I also have to rewire the outlet on the left . It was connected to the one on the right. I was all set to do it but only had 14/2 and its wired with 12/2. That was a surpirse.

I just got intouch with my plumber. He will come next Monday and move the radiator which is infront of the door.
I called two door installers to get prices to install my garage door. I talked to both last week and neither got back to me with a price yet. One said he would call me Sat. to come see it on Sunday morning. Nothing from him yet.

It's really looking good Wayne. The PVC will be nice on the window trim, trying to keep up with weather related maintenance can be a real challenge. What are the plans for landing size in the garage coming out of the newly installed door? It appears close to the one wall are you going over to the wall with the platform?

No, not using a platform its not required by code because the door opens into the house. If it opened out to the garage it would need one. I did it that way to save space infront of the wifes car. I figure along side the stairs to the right of the door I will put some open shelves and at the bottom I will leave it open high enough to slide my floor jacks to keep them out of the way.

Coming along nicely!

Can you enlighten me as to the US system of wiring-does the first figure refer to the gauge of wire & the second the number of conductors?

Where in Massachusetts? Used to live in Worcester County. Anyway I just read your entire thread. Good Job Wayne. It looks as though the garage and house have always been there. From a lady's point of view the roof and siding compliment each other. When I get the time I'll post our detached garagemajal - husband's dream and mine. Only took us 13 years to go from dream to reality. It is completed to the exterior, fully heated/ac'd, etc. Final touches are to furnish and decorate - the fun part. Started in May of this year and got our certificate of completion in late October. Husband's not like a kid in a candy store but he just finished the holidays lights and did the garagemajal first. Sometimes you just have to realize your dream - while you want to add value to your property, you also need to have fun with it.

Good Job! Anxious to see the finals.

51rider You are correct 12 is the gauge and 2 is number of conductors plus a ground.
Agatha Thank you for the compliment. I'm near New Bedford on the SE coast. I wish my wife was more interested in the garage. She only wants to get her car out of the snow. lol When I was concerned about spending the money she pushed me to do it. She's also on board with my car build. She spoils me more than I deserve.

They got a little more done today. They installed all the huricane clips and finnished the bottom of the front door trim. They also built the stairs in the garage. They did a great job on them. There very rigid. the treads are made from 2x10s
Here are a couplee of pictures.

As soon as I started looking through this, my life goal became knowing what will happen to that bay window (in the garage)...

Thanks Guys: I can't wait to get all the little things done so I can get it inspected. I called two door installers for a prices 2 weeks ago, nothing back from them yet. My buddy saw a guy installing a garage door and pulled over and asked if he was interested he said yes . So My buddy called me so I could talk to him. I,asked about the high lift kit and he knew exactly what I was talking about and told me the parts needed to do the job so I was happy he knew about it. He is going to come by tomorrow to look it over and give me a price. I hope number three is my lucky number again like with the builder. It took that many to find a good one.
The plumber is coming by tomorrow to move the radiator and bleed the heat system. That will allow me to open the door to the garage.
The electrician is supossed to come by so we can discuss the wiring and get a price.
at h2o; The window is all apart in the garage. I'm going to keep the big glass in the center plus the grates and get rid of the rest..
I hope all these guys show up tomorrow.

Thanks Rob ; You'll have a beautiful garage there when your done. Its exciting and nerve racking at the same times. But it will be well worth it for us.

I did have a little progress yesterday. The plumber came by to remove a 6' section of base board so the door into the garage could be finnished so it could open. I gave him a hand
, we started at 8:30 am it was out and plumbed back in by 12:00. Then the fun began we tried to bleed the system. My water pressure is almost non existent. It took forever to fill the system. Then to bleed the air out we had to do three zones 3 times each. One zone has two kick board heaters, they held so much air it was a pain. The plumber who did the radiator replaced the kick panel heater in the kitchen a few years ago. When he did he put ball valves on either end so we used them to finally get it bled but it was 3:30 when we finnished. Another extra I didn't count on. But thats how it goes.

Wayne, a little progress is progress. I know what you mean about extras that you don't count on. I can make a list of stuff to do and every item I do adds at least two other task to be done to the list. My wife is always saying there is time and then there's Russell time.:( Did you find anything out about the door?
