Updated pictures. Siding is coming along great. Also, the natural gas line is in, waiting on the meter. The wood is Ipe, we will be applying oil to it each spring to protect.

Detail shot. They used faux wood (trekdeck style) for the door openings.

I really like the wood and metal.

The wood carries to the side, along with the metal. I can't wait for the siding to be complete, it is going to look so slick. Note: my camera lens is wide, so disregard the distortion, the building is straight don't worry. :p

What lens is giving you that amount of distortion; surely not the ones listed.

Yup, those shots were taken with the 10-20mm Sigma at 10mm. Straight from the camera, no edits.
The distortion can be a bit much sometimes, it is great for car shows and meets though.

Those short focal length lenses can really add some drama in the right application. Architecture is always a challenge with something like that however.

Fun lens though!

Update!

Siding is complete, and looks fantastic. I'll take better pictures tomorrow.
finishedsiding.jpg

Other than that, the interior is fully insulated and drywall should commence soon.
My dad and I need to decide on the colors for the walls. I am thinking the wall between the studio and the shop space could be painted an accent color and the rest should be white to reflect the most light and keep the space bright. Also, the bathroom could have colored walls. Not too sure what colors yet, but we need to decide this week.

Ok, here are some updated pictures of the exterior and interior.

Shows the setup for the radiant heat. All that will be enclosed inside of a closet eventually. The bathroom is on the left in this picture.

These are the double doors for the studio entrance. The frosted glass will most likely match the glass in the garage doors.

Awesome build! I would dream building a house with garage combo similar to this, good start for me since I am only 19. Always wanted to build a home with nicely sized garage with car lift, complete set of tools, welding equipment, and lot more to work on my cars and projects :)
Completely love with exterior wood and metal combination! Very modern looking.
What is the approximate cost to build whole thing?

looking great man!

Hey thanks, it's coming along quite nice. How are your shop and/or car projects coming along?

As far as an update, the gas meter was finally put in, but they didn't hook it up to the building yet. I have no idea why. I am super excited to turn on the heat in the floor and get the slab up to temp.
I also can't wait until they install the garage doors. The plywood "doors" that cover the garage openings keep falling down in this stormy weather we've been having.
The drywall is almost done and ready for paint. There are a few spots that need attention, but they are close.

Here's a little video from earlier today. I hope the sun comes out soon, I miss it.

This is a sweet shop. Has a vintage look to it. Kind of like the ol' gas station designs. Really like the one sided roof and 3 bay setup. Great job. You've got to be chomping at the bit to finally get it done.

Thanks, I really like the look too.
Yessir, I can hardly wait to get started on my car and moped projects in there. I hope I can be finish them and driving by summer.

In other news, I came home a bit ago and was surprised with this!

They are installing the awesome aluminum and glass doors.
These man doors will probably get hung today too.

Haha thanks! It's great to see some inspiration can be had from reading these builds. Downloading SketchUp is the first step. Get a really good idea of what you want for your build, from the overall design down to what color or theme you want for the interior. Getting most of it figured out beforehand really makes things go smoother and faster. Good luck!

Garage loks great, Curt. I really like the combination of metal, wood and glass. Looking forward to more!

Nice! I'm picking up a Puch Maxi tomorrow night. I have a bunch of friends who love mopeds. Here's a few pictures of the some of our bikes. haha it is kind of ridiculous how many mopeds some of these guys have.

Yeah, the first few times I used it I couldn't do much, you'll get better.

Garage looks great, Curt. I really like the combination of metal, wood and glass. Looking forward to more!

Thanks, it has a good balance of materials I think.
Here's an updated shot with the doors installed. I love how much natural light we get with these doors taking advantage of the southern exposure.

Liftmaster openers. I'm not sure the specific model name of the openers, but they are really nice.

Hey guys, it's been a while. Things slowed down the past few weeks, not a lot was done.
It's picked back up recently and things are progressing again.

I took some pictures today...
Here's an overall shot of the exterior.

They finished the drywall and it's now paint time. Primed ceiling in the studio.

Here is the garage part. I'm really happy with how much natural light we get. This was taken about 230pm.

I hope I will have more progress to document and show you guys soon.

Looking great Curt! You are going to love having those windows over the garage doors and the translucent doors. Great touch.

More progress...
An overview of the backyard.

They applied the oil to the Ipe. Makes it pop and is a whole lot more vibrant than before.
5628468439_28e8120949_b.jpg

The whole place is painted. The ceiling is white, studio and garage are a yellow/straw color(the garage is a lighter pastel of the same color i think). I think it will help keep our moods happy even on the gloomiest days here in Seattle.

The bathroom is green. The nook between the shower and the wall will be filled with a shelf.

The list is getting smaller as far as what needs to be done before completion. The only big thing left to do is the driveway and landscaping.

I'd love to get a garage door like that. What is that type of door called(so I can search)? Who manufactures it?

I'll ask our builder what the brand is.

In the meantime, here are some pictures from tonight. Lights have been installed in the shop, and man these things put out a TON of light. It is insane. I'm going to love working on projects in here.

I believe the lights are Metalux F-Bay Four Lamp 4 ft. 32W T8 Fluorescent Industrial High Bay Fixtures.

The light also shines right through the doors, making it bright enough outside to mow the lawn etc. :lol_hitti
5761499932_beffbf2c3e_b.jpg

The wiring for the exterior lights were routed through. This is sort of what it looks like in real life when standing outside. haha Those lights are intense.
5761499176_64369862e2_b.jpg

Inside the shop portion. The 3 lights along the wall each have their own switches. The other 3 on the ceiling are switched by the main light switch.
5760952825_ccb8720b15_b.jpg

Here is the shop sink. It's deep and will be great to clean parts in.

Your build is coming together very well! Seeing some paint on your walls is just what I needed to push me to finish the painting in my garage ;-)

BTW, what brand (model if you have it handy) is that faucet that you selected? Looks great!

Here is the type of door. I just searched "glass panel aluminum garage doors"
and found this website: http://www.glassgaragedoors.com/

As to the exact door manufacturer, I will try to find a stamping on the door or sticker.

Thanks! Glad this is inspiring other people with their builds.
I'll check on that brand tomorrow. You could probably find a similar styled faucet pretty easily. I think it's funny to see something that would usually be in a kitchen mounted to a shop sink. :bounce:

Like the style of you place, but will your neighbors complain about light pollution at night since it looks like the light just beams out of the place.

Exterior looks great with the typical mish mash of the PNW area.

I am wondering the same. We are planning on fencing the property pretty soon which will help contain most of the light to our side.
Or if it becomes a real problem to our neighbors, we can make some paneling to put inside the doors to block the light, and blinds for the windows.

We will see what happens, most the neighbors seem pretty happy with the place and its style.
