Thanks! The details are on their way. Here are some current pictures from today.
Exterior lights were installed. The 4 lights on the south wall are photocell equipped and turn on automatically at night. There are 2 lights on the east wall that have a motion sensor.

At night! I love how it looks.

A rear view of the place. It is just wood paneling painted a brownish color. That exhaust outlet is for a fan we had installed to make sure we have good ventilation when welding, etc.

BTW, what brand (model if you have it handy) is that faucet that you selected? Looks great!
Here is a picture of the side of the faucet. I hope this little information is helpful.

That is just too cool! Awesome design, I'm loving all the natural light you get in there, I can imagine the light and the choice of paint will really help alleviate any rainy weather moods. Also love your avatar, i've never seen a volvo wagon slammed like that, looks great!

Looks like the place could use a little landscaping to get some grass growing - is that in the plans?
Yeah, grass seed is down and we will be making a fire pit and adding the driveway soon.

That place is extremely cool! It's nice to see something different. You folks have great vision. BTW....I grew up in Edmonds, live in Arlington now.
Thanks! That's cool, I really like living in Edmonds, good people and all.

Thanks, we thought the same on the yellow paint. Even in the winter we'll be able to go in there and feel better on gloomy days. The volvo is my next project, not many people go for that look, so it should be a fun daily.

Nice! Did you go to school in edmonds?
Yeah, we've always had volvos in the family. I'm in the market for one myself now. It won't be the typical family car though, a little faster and a quite a bit lower. :D

I grew up within walking distance to EHS. But went to Woodway.
Class of 82.
Am surprised at some of the deals on Seattle craigslist.
Just recently I saw a 164 for 1k a Bertone like my wifes for 600?
We have 3 Volvos at home my wifes car of choice.

I think when the time is right you should do some music in your studio for a video walk through of your shop. That would be cool.

Nice, my brother went to Woodway. I was a Meadowdale kid.
Yeah, Volvos are cheap for what they are. I love them. I drove down to Portland on Wednesday to buy this.

A walk through video is a good idea. I'll have to do something like that soon.

Damn wish I could use translucent doors but doubt the insulation value is anything NEAR what we need up here in Canada.

Most likely, even if you could somehow get close to the insulation with those style doors, they would be extremely expensive. :(

Thats a great build job you have there

I love the underfloor insulation pics.

I went overboard with my wall and roof insulation in my garage build, but when I build my rear home extension the HT room will get some insulation tips from those pics.
Thanks

Thanks guys. It's been a while since my last update... We are still slowly moving our stuff in. We have been organizing more than moving really. I only want things I will use frequently or will work on in the immediate future in the garage. Otherwise they go in the basement or to the dump.

The first work in the shop was a new exhaust on my brother's golf. This coming weekend i'll be changing my brake master cylinder in my 245. I love working with plenty of light and all my tools in one spot.

We will be paving the driveway soon. Originally, the plan was to do grass pavers for everything, but they are more expensive compared with asphalt or concrete. We might do a mixture of fully paved drive for the entrance and one door, and pavers for the second door.

Here are some recent pictures. We are still working on getting the grass to come in more full. It's gettin there.
5936029813_b3cc546bde_b.jpg

We are looking into getting some shallow cabinets to hang on some of the walls. I need to go back and read some of the amazing threads on garage organization on here to get some more inspiration.

In the 80's, my dad was a rally car mechanic for John Buffum so we have dozens of old school rally posters, some framed some not, to be hung on the walls. One of those posters in in this pic
5936028991_004bb2c370_b.jpg

Here is another cool one. It's a bit worn, but I'm getting it framed so it doesn't get worse.

Yeah, the 2 post will be bought and installed eventually. We want to get settled in and pave the driveway before any thing else is done. We planned for a lift so there are two squares with about 18" of concrete (most likely more) underneath.

I'm hoping to use the grasspave system for my detached garage once that project starts. What better way to have access to the garage without tearing up the yard all while avoiding the field of concrete/asphalt.

I'm very envious of this design, I wanted to do something like this but my 'in-house' historic building commission dictated a more traditional design. Really a nice job and a terrific space. Don't you want to get something down on that concrete, though?

Thanks! We semi-polished the floor and sealed the concrete. So it is protected from oil and whatnot. Water beads up on it, pretty sweet.

A little update.
On Aug 25th, we had the driveway put in. Went with asphalt for the main drive, and we are adding grass pavers at a later date for the second door entrance.
First they finished grading.
6102036515_968f4c2601_z.jpg

Then they laid down some really fine gravel and compacted it.

All done

6080229931_c4e1091e4b_b.jpg

They sprayed it with water at the end to make sure it flowed down and away from the garage entrance. They also made it crown at the entrance to keep water from coming down the drive from the street. I made sure it wasn't drastic though because lots of low cars will be driving in and out of here. :)
From start to finish, it probably took a little over 3 hours. And they did a great job and actually paid attention to the details. :cool

I can't wait to finish the project later on and add the grass pavers. But for now we are super happy to finally have a smooth driveway.

Looks like a Black and Decker Workmate or whatever those collapsible workbenches are called these days... Could be wrong though...

You're right! It's probably 20 years old now. One of the legs doesn't snap into place, but the thing works like brand new. Great little bench.

AWESOME! You sir have impeccable taste. I recognize your square, one of my favorites.

/jealous
Haha thanks very much. This is the newish Squareback project. A '67 with some rot in the floors and headlight buckets. I already swapped my engine from the red one into this. This picture was taken during a fuel pump replacement. I want to have the car prepped, painted and put back together by the end of winter.
6210538462_92caf1560c_b.jpg

You can see the garage hasn't changed much, just added a few small shelves. This winter we hope to buy a larger compressor, and a decent MIG welder. Thinking about a Miller 251 if we can swing it. The 2 post lift will probably be coming into play next year. One step at a time.

I love this build!
Thanks! I hope to have more content in this thread in the upcoming months.

I can't wait to see more volvos! Nice garage too!
Oh don't worry, there should be a lot of volvo pictures coming up soon. I have a B230FT to swap into the 245 this winter. The current N/A engine is getting pretty tired. Original bottom end I believe, and the chassis has 347,*** miles on it. :lol_hitti

As for other non car related projects, I am refurbishing some stools that sat outside for a while. In the picture, one is finished and the other is somewhat cleaned up but unfinshed.
6210538380_fd5eb6aa60_b.jpg

I sanded down the rungs so some bare wood showed from underneath the paint. Then clearcoated over that, masked the rungs and painted the chair red. Gave it a fake patina/rustic look that is pretty cool. I plan on doing the same thing with the other stool.

And I changed the handlebars on my bike recently to bullhorns and took some pictures. We planted lots of grass just at the end of summer, taking advantage of the sun. Worked out great as you can see.

I have read your entire post, and I would like to first say this is a wonderful garage. As others have said I like this design verse many garages that look like warehouses. My question is, I would like to know how tall your walls are (fr & bk).
Great Job!!!

Lovely work up there in Edmonds! Did I notice some vintage HAM gear sitting on the shelves to the right?

Good luck on the '67, I think my older brother's was the same year. He bought it new and had it many years. He loved that little ******. He had it repainted to a bright Sunflower yellow after the bodywork was done (Pa. salt - bad!). We could see him coming long before we heard the put-put of that motor. LOL
