I have a variety. SK, Wright, John Deere in chrome 12 point. Williams USA in 6 point impact. All have worked well for me. Although I prefer a 6 point, 12 usually does pretty good.

I work on a lot of Deere stuff. As far as tractors for usually I really don’t need much of anything over 32mm. But every once in awhile there may be something larger on the newer tractors but not often. Even then most the time those require a wrench over a socket. Same with the older Deere stuff. Usually isn’t too much that’s over 1-1/4”, again usually requiring wrenches over sockets.

I have a large variety. The ones I have I pick up from where ever I find a good deal on it. Breaking large sockets isn't really a big concern. Large combo wrenches I feel the same about. Just try to find a good deal and not worry about them breaking.

Are you in shop that repairs tractors or at your home/ranch/farm? If you are just doing it at home I would recommend to buy the cheapest ones possible as I rarely saw the larger sockets break and I get something like the chrome sockets from Harbor Freight. As you climb into 3/4" sockets and ratchets the larger the price tag.

Import ones are pretty cheap but for a good quality set just wait for a deal on an old set. I see 20, 30 year old sets around for $50 to $150 fairly often. I got a P&C (US made Blue Point) set in like new condition for $150 and a Gedore (Germany) for $125. I've passed on nice sets for $50 since because I just don't need anymore. Keep watching and waiting.

Just toy tractors at home. Had a look on the SnapOn site, sockets are awesome but you pay for it in comparison to 1/2” or 3/8” drive prices.

Go to your local pawn shop, flea market, swap meet and look at used US-made sockets and not even worry about if it has a warranty or not.

I will say that the Snap On ratchet head and multiple handles are worth the money.

What size toy tractors are you looking? Deere 2 cylinder/IH Letter series or larger?

I have a 3/4" set of Wright from the mid 70's. The only other 3/4" drive tools I've used were my dairy farmer brother in laws Chinese set. There's a huge difference in fit and feel. Pretty pricey stuff if you don't use it often. I was incredibly lucky to find my used set at a garage sale. If I had to pay fair market value I wouldn't own them because I couldn't justify the cost.

HF, Northern tool, brands are fine. My set is A US made set of Allen, Craftsman, Napa, Masterforce. I have found over time, that I only need a hand full of metric sockets for the tractor, and the implements are SAE.

I have Protos. I would just go for impact sockets, no need for the more expensive chrome-thins. If you do find a specific need where the OD won't fit, you can either turn it on a lathe or just buy that individual in chrome-thin.

Craftsman is the brand of sockets we use in 3/4". The sockets are fine. The teardrop Craftsman 3/4" ratchet is a piece of junk.

I’ve been using Craftsman 3/4” ratchets, almost everyday, for the past 30+ yrs, never had an issue. I have 3 of them, one 40+ yrs old, the other two are 4-5 yrs old.

At work 3/4" drive was a company tool, but the common sizes of 1 5/16 and 1 1/2 were always missing. So at Princess Auto I bought a couple. They had CHINA heavily stamped on them. Well, one split and the other stripped. The company replaced them with Proto. From my that, I would say, step up a level in quality, at least get the stuff that has Taiwan stamped on it, chuckle. I'm retired now, but I don't think my 3/4 drive has more than 2 sockets with the same name.

We run mostly nameless China & Taiwan 1" and 3/4" chromes at work and hammer the hell out of them. They finally added a Sunex deep impact set that's slowly being used.

I've bought my most used sizes in impact through Cripe Distributing and single Sunex sockets.

Skip a set and buy singles you need. Even cheap single sockets and jumbo wrenches from Tractor Supply or whatever you have local will hold up for your use.

For 3/4 drive, I have the Pittsburgh Pro impact sockets from HF. Harbor Freight is Often a bit hit and mis, but it is pretty hard to go wrong with their Pittsburgh Pro line for 6 point sockets. I have deep and shallow of the 1/2 and 3/4 drive 6 point impact sockets, and all have held up great thus far.

When I worked in the field all my 3/4" sockets were bought from Epstein Tool, all USA made in all major brands S&k Proto Williams. They have factory rejects, most of the time it is the the brand name messed up. Less than half the price of new and they ship. I have all sizes from smallest up to 3" in both deep and shallow and impact. I am to old to even think or want to use them any longer. My 1/2" dont fit someone else can fix it. They will be for sale soon.

I have that the shallow 3/4" drive HF impact set. It's a beast for the money :D though they used to be cheaper $39.99 and only $32 after a 20% coupon was what I paid.

Plastic Storage case is really nice too and probably more than you actually need. No 34mm, but did get a 35mm plus 26 & 29mm which I had in no other set configuration. Only gawd knows what we need 'em all for right :pimpflash

I think the wheel lugs on the biggest tractor we have at work 95hp John Deere tractor are 1 3/8"/34mm) :eyecrazy:

OD on the HF shallow sockets are larger than my 1/2" deep drive Cro Mo impacts sockets in the same sizes (I have those in 30, 32, 34, 36 & 38mm and 1-1/4", 1-5/16, 1 -7/16 1 -1/2")

Seems like a lot of skips on that HF 3/4" deep set though and starts really small too with the #21 wheel lug socket.

So I also have a full MIT (old TEKTON) in SAE 6pt up to 2" :wtf:

and Speedway series set of shallow 6 pt impact in the old metal case that tops out at 1-1/2"

I bought a couple of loose 12pt chrome ones, in between sizes from TSC a 1-9/16" for one real oddball job (a vise nut) and picked 1-11/16 for another job (axle nut) was supposed to actually be a 43mm I was told later. And I even got by with a 1- 3/4" socket the first time around was a bit loose though

Pic of the HF set and storage case...lot of wasted room there
