3/8 guts in 1/4 ratchet

The bottom ratchet is a wright 3/8" drive, top is a williams 1/4".

Just out of curiosity (and pardon my ignorance) what would be the purpose of this? to be able to apply more torque to your 1/4 ratchet?

I use the hell out mine when replacing sparkplugs. Nothing better to get on the back head of a FWD V6 or V8 and work in tight holes. I also like using them as a regular shorty ratchet once a bolt is broke loose to get it out faster as you can usually get more swing from them than a regular shorty fat rat.

Please someone tell me how somebody put 3/8 guts in a 1/4 ratchet body. Now I have a few 3/8 drive 1/4 inch bodies but the only differance is the drive size

You need to use a hammer.

What about the one Wright makes? The head on that thing is TINY. I can get a pic to you if you need one.

Yes, I believe that's the number. The thing is sweet.

The smallest one I have is a Snap-On FCF72. I think it cost about 90 dollars so it must be three times as good and can in no way compare to my Snap on.

All jokes aside that little wright is a smokin little ratchet. Very nice

I can't say for sure off the top of my empty head. Member wantabiggergarage(spelling?) has had dealings w/ Epsteins on the Wrights.

I have the Wright as well. Its a great little ratchet. Tiny little ******.

I have been thinking about the flexhead as well, but I really have no need for it, I do however have a "want" for it...lol

Ive got an old Snap On FM70 which is a factory 3/8 in a 1/4 body (20tooth). I can swap the coverplate and gear (dont need to even mess with the pawl/selector) into my other old 1/4 ratchets (TM711 & GM70) and it works great.

Jori (Jsackin) is who I dealt with. He told me if it was in the catalog, they could get it. As for price, since that may vary, I will let you ask him. I will say it was under suggested retail, and compared to what others found on the web. VERY good people to deal with (and I need to get some Vaughn hammers), I can't recommend them highly enough.

Mine is a Proto 5248S. It's a standard Proto 4749 1/4" dr. ratchet body, with 3/8 dr. guts in it. I just ordered a repair kit from Grainger and put it in an extra 1/4 ratchet I had. It works great, and that design Proto ratchet has been around 60+ years, they are strong as hell.

I've read here in the past that the Snap on's are very high on the warranty scale, Even the Wright discloses that they are designed for "Low torque" if you read the description. When your dealing with this type of specialty tool, I suspect there intended use was to run bolts and a Breaker should be used for Initial and Final. We all know thats how it happens...

Here is one I have never seen before. Did Blackhawk actually make this ratchet this way or did someone convert it? The model number is for a 1/4" ratchet.

I just took out my Blackhawk 1/4" ratchet of the same model number as the one in the auction and a Blackhawk 3/8" drive ratchet and there is no way the guts will fit into the 1/4" ratchet. That ratchet has to be made that way from the factory for Blackhawk.

I am not sure if anyone actually makes one that way but it is a very common thing to do. You can just order a 1/2" drive rebuild kit from most places and just put the guts into a 3/8" drive ratchet. I have done it with Proto,New Britain etc.
