Looks great!!

Mind if I ask where you purchased your drywall from? I am getting close so I priced HD, Lowes and Wimsatt and all 3 were barely cheaper than I can pay someone to hang and finish it. I do not get any sort of "contractor pricing" though so that might make a huge difference in the price of the materials.

Menards was cheaper than HD or Lowes. I plan on hiring the taping and mudding.

Looks awesome, and coming along nicely. I am also in Michigan outside of Lansing. I like your stairs idea. You will have to check out my Garage thread, I did a 30X40, with hoists. One of the toys it houses is an 89 YJ, so I can relate to the infection of the Jeep Bug!!

Keep the updates coming, can't wait to see it done.

Finished off the drywall this weekend, around the stairs and the last piece on the long wall.

My concrete guy is coming this week to quote the exterior work. I didn't get the barn up earlier enough to miss the freeze last year when he poured the inside. So, apron on the front to tie into the driveway and 18" along the far side to help mowing and water management.

IMG_5100_zps33422a88.jpg

And large apron on the back with space to park my trailer.

Made good progress yesterday afternoon...we had a lift raising party!

Thanks to some help from a couple of friends...
IMG_5108_zps7fb28b1c.jpg

Even got my son up a ladder to help, which is not easy as he doesn't like heights...
IMG_5113_zps618ff48f.jpg

Finally all set up, excuse the temporary power hook up (it will be in conduit after the ceiling is in place)...
IMG_5134_zpscabb8e4d.jpg

And the test run...

I must say it looks pretty at home there. The concrete guy is coming Wednesday to lay all the exterior conctrete, can't wait to get rid of the mud

Well it's been a while since I posted any updates, sorry! So progress has been a little slower than I would like but I had some projects that had to be done first. All the drywall has been finished and painted and then I got to work on the stripes...
IMG_5288_zps37da1b41.jpg

I have never had much luck with painter's tape before but learnt a trick about sealing the edges first with the base color...I have to say it worked really well and gave awesome crisp lines...
IMG_5291_zpsc9429f27.jpg

Now it's onto the ceiling panels, excuse my awesome farmer's tan...
IMG_5299_zps2926d598.jpg

First few in place...
IMG_5300_zpsd2575b44.jpg

Hope to get the ceiling finished this week and some of the panels for the lower walls.

Looks good but you have the same issue my dads shed has. Too low for the surrounding grade. Should have been about 6" higher for good drainage.

Having a lift for working on mud trucks is nice, finally have a lift but no mud trucks anymore.

It's only low on the front which is managed now with a drain channel across the front, this was needed regardless of the barn to drain the driveway...so it's a win win. The rest of the grade needed to be raised up to meet the barn, all in all I think it's going to be fine.

Man this is looking awesome! I am planning on doing about the same as you with the steel on the bottom of the wall. Is your steel gray or galvanized? I am still curious about what you did for the plugs in the steel. Oh and what was the trick for the lines? I can't ever get the right either

Thanks for the kudos.

The steel on the walls is light gray. The outlets are mounted in regular plastic boxes that are nailed to the studs behind the steel. You just need to adjust the position to not be where the large ribs are on the steel. I cut the holes in the steel just under-size for the boxes, this allows you to mount the outlet on the outside of the steel without falling through. I did wrap the outlets with electrical tape to cover the terminals just to make sure I didn't have any chance to contact the steel panels.

The trick with the painter's tape is to paint the edge with the white base wall color to seal the edge of the tape before you paint the accent color. It really does stop any color bleeding under the tape because the white sealed it. By the way the steel is the same color as the gray stripe on the wall...I had the color matched to the steel, same for the blue to match the lift.

Keep an eye on it come late winter early spring. Freeze/thaw and ice in the drain will be your enemy. That is when it's my dads biggest issue. My old barn was similar and my new one is 6-8" above grade at its lowest so drainage won't be an issue this time.

Lighter weight on the trusses, no taping, mudding or painting...just screw it up and it's done (and I like the look too )

Cool, I agree it does look pretty nice!
On another note how long did you have to wait for the concrete footing to dry before placing the poles on them?

I think the framers only waited about 2 days before they started setting poles.

Made some more good progress over the last week or so. All of the steel is on the lower walls and the back wall is all steel...

IMG_5343_zpsbd059d0f.jpg

Steel on the long wall and trimmed around the windows...

IMG_5342_zps0ec5c022.jpg

Here's a close up of an outlet, it looks good so long as you miss the big ribs of course...

IMG_5344_zps953dfae3.jpg

And three quarters of the ceiling is finished...

That is looking sharp! I like the steel wainscoting inside.

I was just looking at the Atlas lifts online, what do you think of it?

I have been happy with the Atlas so far, had a few different vehicles on it including my 3/4 ton Dodge with the Cummins TD engine. I friend had the same one before me and had no issues with it for about 5 years.

any updates bud,,

Well let me see...

I did get the gas furnace hung last weekend, still need to wire it and put the vent up. I also got my compressor moved into the compressor/generator room on the barn of the barn. It's wired to a switch next to my bench for easy access.

I did get some of my Gladiator wall cabinets hung as well. It's all starting t come together.

The ceiling is still only 75% complete, my buddy hasn't been well so he's not been around to help with the last few panels.

You've made some really nice progress since last time I saw your thread. It looks like the majority of the rough interior work will be finished for winter so you can actually start on the interior finish and set up.

What are you using to put up the steel ceiling, lift or manual labor/ladders?

Thanks

Most all of the interior will be together before winter with the intention of using the barn this winter for projects. The ceiling has been manual labor and ladders. I did get two more panels up last night, which I think only leaves 4 more to do...hopefully by Saturday afternoon it will be done.

Having the ceiling done will be nice. No more moving stuff out of the way to work up above.
...your are soooooo right about that, I can't wait to be done moving stuff around!

very nice shop. what do you call your trusses? any pics looking in the front door?
...the trusses are "light storage trusses". The pitch is 5/12 and that gives me 7ft of headroom in the middle and 12ft width in the center section.

Here's a picture looking in the front door for Justin1795...

I did finish up the wall cabinets last weekend, the gap between them is for a custom cabinet I am going to make for the TV and stereo. I have a second bench on order to go next to the current one.
IMG_5499_zpsb0634398.jpg

And just for the heck of it here's a shot of the main reason for the barn in the first place...
