Finishing up the last bit of electrical work. I wanted to hook a motion sensor to the recessed porch lights so I decided to use a motion sensor that I bought about 10 years ago and never used.
I recently found this sensor while organizing my cabinets during my other
garage makeover. It is designed to be located near an existing porch light with a short cable running into the light box. The only problem is, with recessed lights I cannot use it as intended.
I am going to run the sensor wire into the switch box which requires that the sensor wire be lengthened.
Here is the motion sensor as it came out of the box.
I quick trip to Home Depot to get a longer cable. It is a 3-wire stranded cable. All they had was 4-wire stranded but that will work.
I decided to change out the cable entirely instead of splicing it which meant I had to solder the new wire in.
Here it is installed.
