So the largest add-on was several times I wished I had ramps for the trailer. I was toying with the idea of removing the existing barn doors and make a complicated multi function rear doors/ramp. But I was talking to guys who had multi functioning doors & ramps but they said the door/ramps do everything but non very well. So I decided to just build simple ladder ramps. But traditional equipment ramps are constructed of heavy channel and angle iron which is overkill for my application and overly heavy. I built my ramps from 1.5" .125" square tube stringers with 1"x1.5" .125" rectangle tube for the cross members. I added a bow string to the bottom of the ramp using 1/4" flat bar with a stand off which significantly adds strength to the ramps. I tested the strength of the ramps by driving my f150 up the one with it having 0 deflection. Both ramps have expanded metal on them so something with small wheels don't drop between rungs. The ramps are attached to the trailer by a piece of angle welded to the bottom of the dump body frame (lots of overhead welding fun
).
