Thanks everyone. The weather here last few days has been great and the forecast for the whole coming week looks good. Have made some good progress on the upper front. Sorry no pics to post at this time. Weather too good to take the time on the computer and by the time we come in at night and eat, too bushed to do it. Catch up with pics next change we get. Tree guys cancelled out until the 10th of Oct. So still have that to deal with too.

Once you've finished the upper 'floor' I can see the ground floor being finished very quickly. I think you need to treat Derrick to a few coats of wood preserver once his work is done and give him an honourable retirement. (Plus he'll come in handy for genral maintenance!)

Beautiful workmanship! I think the derrick is one cool tool!!!

My dad, 75, is in the midst of building a 60x65 airplane hangar. Now he is laying a concrete paver floor that is set on compacted gravel and sand. laser leveled. 3600 sf + tons of rock and sand leveled, compacted. All with his garden tract, a little dump cart and a harbor freight compactor.

50-60 sf a day. Amazing man. I helped him and I was sore for a couple days.

Solid all around! Don't be worried by that dappled sunlight on the building. When shooting movies and commercials, we spend hours either making that effect or waiting for it to happen naturally.

It is mind blowing to us that we have so many followers of our project from all over the world. On here from places such as England and Dubai and so many others, but also on our web site from Russia, Europe, Japan etc.
We thank you all for looking and hope you are enjoying the progress, although very slow, as much as we are in doing it.
Thanks for the kind words and concern about Derrick as well. We will not have a place to keep him, but he will still provide a part in the future build of the project. As he already has.
Sun is out and we need to be too. So got to go.

Also would like to add, and not as a correction, that we have been working at this so long that the thread title should show that we are both now 72 years young.
Would change the title to reflect that but there doesn't seem to be anyway that that is allowed.

Thanks, but that only changed the title for that post and not for the thread itself. Note that I have changed it on this post also. However it is not changing the thread.

A funny, at least to me is, thing about this age comment. It has come up as I put up my 100th post. Note, now I am listed as a SENIOR MEMBER. At 72 I thought I already was.

You are a wildman NASMAN. After seeing my grandfather sit in his lazyboy for the last 30 years of his life, I have vowed to not do the same when I reach retirement age. This is exactly the kind of stuff I want to do at 70.

Thanks for being concerned. We are doing good. Have been able to get some progress done here in Nov. However we also have received 16 inches of rain this month so did not get as much done as we wanted. The front is looking good with what we have got done, but we don't have the pictures up on the web site as of now, so can't get them on here. Would really like to put up the batten boards before we post this latest section. If we can't do that in the next week or so we will post what we have. Main problem is short days and cold temps. Too cold to stain the cedar.
Also would like to say thanks to the very kind person that changed the title from 70 to 72. Many thanks.

Have a lot of the locals wondering also and have had some strange guesses as to what is going to happen.
The walls will first get regular sill plates, than the posts will recieve horizontal banding as you would see in most pole barns. Than we will cover that with the same cedar as we have done on the top half of the rear section. Which you can see in a previous post. One layer with clear coat to the interior than paper and than another with stain to the exterior. Both layers of cedar will be vertical.
I realize this is a unorthodox way of doing it, but because of doing it ourselves we could not have the bottom closed in and the top open for the amount of time it is taking us to do it. Not with the kind of weather we get here.

There aren't any events in this town.

You are right about the weather, but havn't smelled a chicken since we have been here. Most all of the chicken businesses have gone out. All gas wells now.

The main uses will be as a garage and storage. The house is small and only has one large closet, so Lin will take two bays as hers for closet type stuff etc. The motorcycle will get a bay and our vehicles will get the center. Work areas for the rest. Would like to do another street rod but will see how the health is in couple years.
