"Running" is almost always cheaper than "rebuilding".

Go price out the parts and machining to fix your 460.

The 300 won't just drop in, either.

And if it's "running" now, for how long? The most current version ended production in 1996, which is almost 20 years newer than your truck.
Currently waiting for $$ from the machine shop.

The 460 is 50+ years old

The Ford 300 '6 was built from 65-92, so they are just as old as the 460.

I'd slap valve guides and seal in the heads (and port them 1-2 hrs) and send it. Flywheel.

You can do a ZF5/6 trans for better milage. They came behind the 460 and can get bell and such from junkyard. There are dodge versions that are more readily available and cheaper.

No mention of a diesel swap anywhere in this mess. A 12valve Cummins would look nice nestled in there.

Y’all love spending other people’s money, don’tcha?

Biggest bunch of budget busters I’ve ever seen 😜

I like the 300 idea. I'm just not sure about the transmission. How good is a 300 in a 1 ton with only 3 usable gears on the road

They came from the factory that way. But they weren’t tire burners.

I think paired with a 5 speed, it’d be fine for my purposes

You still need the proper rear end for a 300/5 speed.
Worked for the green truck agency and had one that was less than impressive (empty in a half ton).
Worked for a forest contractor that had 2. We had some grades north of Boise, that 4Low and 1st left that motor lugging to the point you could count pistons firing and get out and walk alongside. It was gutless on the highway too but got mid 20's for mileage.

Are we getting closer to road trips?
Nope, been up North out of the Phoenix heat all summer, will get back on it when we get back down there for the winter. The new garage setup here isn't conducive to a hot rod build.
Trying to get a bunch of little projects wrapped up to free up some time to work on the '32... With another big project lurking on the near horizon...🤔

Anybody remember a thread about a member’s 300 with a supercharger and an awesome looking intake manifold that he’d fabricated, with some stellar TIG work?

Neighbor kid has a '77 F250 2wd with a 300/4-speed that he is modding up. Supposedly putting a turbo on it to make it faster. Talked his little brother into buying about a '91 F150 4x4 with the 300/4-speed and they pulled the EFI, went Holley and DUI ignition. I've seen neither run, yet. There is no speed shifting the NP435 gear box.
