If it's a flush fin frame, you just get out your circular saw or planer.

And to make a block frame, just score and snap off the nail fin.

I went to a local window manufacturer who designs his own extrusions. I told him where I purchased the hm frames (also a local manufacturer,) gave him the narrowest dimensions, and he made the windows to fit with no flange. He was also the person who said to use self tapping screws.

Here is how they looked this afternoon. I still need to caulk and add the vinyl trim pieces. I also caught a pic looking west toward mount Taylor

Looking good! I made the mistake of letting my framers put my windows in. Completely *&^*&$^$#'ed up the moisture proofing. Ended up pulling them out and redoing all the membrane myself then re-installing the windows as well. What's the saying "if you want it done right, do it yourself!"

Oh man, frustrating! Usually, whenever I am in the middle of fixing something that I paid someone else to screw up, my wife walks out and says, "Why are you tearing that apart? Didn't you pay to have them do it?"

Yes, thank you for rubbing it in!

Yeah, you're not kidding. I can't count the number of hours I've spent fixing things my contractors have done. They've met code (mostly, but not on the windows!) but I'm a bit **** so take things further. Hopefully it'll result in a better install.

Getting closer.. Electrical and framing inspections are finished. Need to do some grading, build a retaining wall on the north side, and install windows in the attic. Hopefully that is enough to pass my final inspection for the CO.

Anyway, pictures from this weekend. I installed my cheap-o craigslist rollup door. The first picture is from Saturday. It has the door with all the filth still attached. I thought it was cool to catch one of the hot-air balloons that floats over the yard and drives my dogs crazy. One of the benefits of living here!

The second is from this morning. It looks much better with the door washed and painted.

It is finished. This morning the inspector came out for my second Final inspection and approved. I have the Certificate of Occupancy!

He said there are three inspectors for the city and they all agree that my shop is the nicest they have ever seen.

Now, to start using it!

Thanks for all the great ideas..

I can't believe I missed this thread, I lived for a year and a half in Rio Rancho in '86-'87. I lived in the duplex on Broadmor and Lakeview Cir., in fact, I built it and helped lay the wall to the entrance of the addition. I worked on many of the duplexes on the west side of the street there. I was building adobe homes in the area at the time, built in Placitas, Edgewood, Bosque Farms, the Heights.

Wow, you were here at the beginning. I think the city was incorporated in the early '80s. Not sure if I would know the wall, but I know the area of Broadmor and Lakeview. Not too many adobe home going up these days though.
