1/2: love the ongoing TO DO LISTS and would love to see the DONE lists to really have a lot of us shaking our heads wondering why our 24 day isn't as productive as yours. WELL DONE SIR!!

just curious with the push to put the WEST WING back together this weekend is your co worker new tenant planning on moving in August 1st?

not sure how long you allow for walking shelby and smelling the roses, but happy to see it's on your TO DO LIST.

I should get most of the list completed easily ( barring interruptions ) the only thing that will not be completed will be the toilet suite as I have to set some replacement tiles first up and I would like to let the adhesive set for a few days at least.

We are a little behind where we would like to be at this point in time, however I am pretty happy with where things are at. I have been held up getting a Power co appointment to do the mains/main switchboard change over as well, it is nearly a two month wait at the moment.

To be honest if it takes a few more weeks or a month to complete I would much rather wait to be 100% finished than rush things, which is looking likely at this point.

Mrs 1/2 Cup is still chipping away with her painting and going great guns. She said last night that she can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

Shelby and I walk first up for about an hour or so, she loves it and I enjoy the walk as well.

• Installation of new toilet suite. Install new floor tiles, waiting on the adhesive to set.
• Reinstall all the door hardware as Mrs ½ Cup has removed them all to repaint each door. Completed.
• Reinstall a couple of the doors that Mrs ½ Cup insisted on taking down to paint.

• Remove all carpet and underlay. One room completed
• Level up wardrobe door track – Bedroom three.

To be honest I have been cruising, no stress and its great to reflect on what we have achieved today.

To top that off I get a phone call from my son, Andrew asking how the K Series engine has progressed today?? ( bear in mind he had been out partying today ) My reply was that it is still the same as you saw it this morning.
I went on to articulate what I had been up to today. His reply was now that's BORING to which I replied I am happy for you to pay some one to finish the engine. The phone went quiet for a bit and his response was "ok I will wait "

drives, I have said to Andrew exactly that but he was in Melbourne yesterday afternoon for a party. In all fairness I have to give him credit when its due he has been a great help with the West Wing be it mowing and giving me a hand as needed, what ever.

Mrs 1/2 Cup also keeps up with domestics here like you wouldn't believe. Not to mention that with our DIL ( Amy ) expecting in November she also does their ironing and cooks the odd meal for them just because she can to help out.

I think I have posted about our long time neighbours and great friends before, anyway just a bit of a recap.

Rocket and Joy are just the salt of the earth, the sort of people who would give you the shirt of their backs.

He is a similar vintage to myself and done things pretty tough health wise over the years. A 30 year leukaemia survivor, bowl cancer survivor, now has failing eye sight and struggles physically to do stuff.

A die hard biker from way back he wheels and deals quite a bit and I can't keep up with the bikes he has amassed.

A real nice Anniversary Harley. A brand new Vespa, his every day commute and a Canam Spider just to name a few.

He had borrowed my trailer yesterday to pick up a patio blind for his carport and he wandered over this morning asking if I could give him a hand to put up the blind, yep sure can.

Blind up and Rocket is on happy chappy.

In conversation he went on to tell me about a garage clean out of a relative he had been involved with and the interesting stuff that was there. Being the sort of guy he is and very appreciative of my help he then proceeds to hand me over a G Clamp we had been using and said its yours. WOW.

When he first saw it, he went on to say he thought of me. Let me tell you I was just so humbled.

The G Clamp is a kick *** 10 inch Australian made Malco unit, from the 50s or 60s I am guessing. It has little our no wear and hasn't been mistreated in any way that I can see.

I might just drop every thing and clean it up this afternoon.

Terrick, it should come up nicely in the bath. The issue I have now is that it would be great to see some sunshine to run the unit. I have not seen a winter like this for many, many years. The last few months have seen well above average rain falls around here.

I spent last evening cleaning up the thread it looks like it had been covered in a preservative and it has come up like new..

Rocket has this knack of finding great stuff and being in the right place at the right time. Without fail he always offers his finds to me at the price he has paid for it. I have brought and been given heaps of stuff over the years.

I did manage to get all the carpet up and now have a trailer load to get rid of and a squillion underlay staples to remove.

The toilet suite has proven a challenge having to adapt a cast iron waste pipe to the pan. I will have to grout the pan as well due to the centre line heights being a ½ inch out.

Nothing to report on the K Series build.

LED tubes are expensive out here at the moment at around $18AU each I might just try a couple over my bench and see how they go.

Andrew had the current engine on the dyno today if nothing else if establishes a bench mark for the new engine. You need to take into context that this is the out put at the rear wheels and not at the flywheel.

Bear in mind this is a bog stock engine that has had 5 seasons of competition under its belt with a set of Piper Cams and a Jenvey Fuel Injection set up.

JB the engine still runs well and is extremely reliable after five seasons of racing but the graph paints the picture. That engine will get a refresh after the new one is up and running.

The West Wing is progressing well and as Mrs 1/2 Cup said we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. Still there is a bit to do and it will be worth the effort in the long run I am sure.

Rocket picked it up for $100 from a special school auction and I happily paid the $100 to take it off his hands.

I must check the post vise out for any marking, that some thing I have not done as yet.

1/2 Cups LED tube replacement.

Any one considering replacement LED tubes please note the following:

I brought two T8 s just to give them a go and with tax they were a little cheaper than I had first expected at around AU $14.00 each

They will retro fit easily into an older fitting with a magnetic ballast.

However the kitchen light that I was intending to do the change over on ( T8 2X36 watt ) has a newer electronic ballast and its not just as easy as it seems. There is quite a bit of rehashing with the wiring to be done and the electronic ballast is no longer required.

I will let you know how it goes..

Thanks 1/2 cup, I did start looking into the tubes after reading Dennis's (denwood) fit out notes. Didn't find quite the same model tube but one of the other models that I think was 6500k and around $20 a tube.

$14 seems pretty good, what ones did you end up with ?

GB, the tubes I brought are from Laurence and Hansen are a Torino LED by eco getic. Not sure what they will be like as yet. I will try and get them installed this weekend..

If you look closely, where the screw goes through the moveable part, the eye is two pieces, each side formed in a half circle then welded together to make the eye and then the vise jaw welded on to that. First saw that on one that had been buried and was so corroded you could see the grain in the iron. Checking others, every one I have inspected is made the same way.

I'd really like to get the first coat of top coat on the wood vise (but after 6 months I don't want to rush that ), and I'd like to wash both my car and Irene's ('cause you could probably get a good crop of potatoes on both at present after all the rain we've had ), and I desperately need to get the new number plates mounted (or I'll have no credibility on GJ at all...... ).

. Mrs 1/2 Cup suggested that the family room and kitchen needed better lighting, so I now have a couple of fluorescent lights to do. Completed.

. Take all the old carpet and underlay to the waste station. Andrew is doing this first up Sunday.

. Refit door hardware that Mrs 1/2 Cup removes to paint the doors. Completed.

. Seal all the floor boards ready for the new carpet. In progress.

Saturday evening.

. Mrs 1/2 Cup is showing the two rodents on Sunday so its wash and grooming then load up all their goods and chattels for an early start Sunday. Completed.

. Keep on with removing the underlay staples - two rooms to go..Completed.

You are right there we have had enough rain for a bit now, the irrigation season starts August 15 but I can not see any irrigators needing water for another month or so apart from stock and domestic supplies.

The county is looking fantastic now, nice and green. I was down in Melbourne yesterday for work and went via Yea and Yarra Glen and it looked a picture.

All, my sister Kim turns 50 in a week and she has organised a huge get together ( Festival of Kim ) at her place which backs up to a local creek and is protected by a levy bank. The flood waters have inundated beyond the levy which is a natural bush setting that her fire pit and a huge mound of branches and timber that collects throughout the year it is a dumping ground for all our families tree pruning's, so it looks like no bonfire night to celebrate her birthday.

Bobby, I really did not think of it that way.

Perhaps I should buy a third leg vise and literally give it the treatment instead. I am now thinking all bare metal finish like what I did to my 5 inch Dawn Vice.
