1/2: love the ongoing TO DO LISTS and would love to see the DONE lists to really have a lot of us shaking our heads wondering why our 24 day isn't as productive as yours. WELL DONE SIR!!

just curious with the push to put the WEST WING back together this weekend is your co worker new tenant planning on moving in August 1st?

not sure how long you allow for walking shelby and smelling the roses, but happy to see it's on your TO DO LIST.

cheers and have a great weekend

drives thank you.

I should get most of the list completed easily ( barring interruptions ) the only thing that will not be completed will be the toilet suite as I have to set some replacement tiles first up and I would like to let the adhesive set for a few days at least.

We are a little behind where we would like to be at this point in time, however I am pretty happy with where things are at. I have been held up getting a Power co appointment to do the mains/main switchboard change over as well, it is nearly a two month wait at the moment.

To be honest if it takes a few more weeks or a month to complete I would much rather wait to be 100% finished than rush things, which is looking likely at this point.

Mrs 1/2 Cup is still chipping away with her painting and going great guns. She said last night that she can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

Shelby and I walk first up for about an hour or so, she loves it and I enjoy the walk as well.

Have a great day and thank you yet again..

Generally I pull the pin and kick back at 4.30 pm on a weekend:beer:

I have similar checklists 1/2 cup. Except mine tend to cover a month or two instead of a Saturday. [emoji13]

Great achievement!

HCNDM Thank you.

To be honest I have been cruising, no stress and its great to reflect on what we have achieved today.

To top that off I get a phone call from my son, Andrew asking how the K Series engine has progressed today?? ( bear in mind he had been out partying today ) My reply was that it is still the same as you saw it this morning.
I went on to articulate what I had been up to today. His reply was now that's BORING to which I replied I am happy for you to pay some one to finish the engine. The phone went quiet for a bit and his response was "ok I will wait " ;)

Thank you again and have a great weekend:thumbup:

YOU gave her the day off?:spit: I'm not saying she didn't earn it, but really, you gave it to her.;) Somebody had to bust your chops over that comment. That you can get that much done in a day is incredible. And do it so well.

Sounds like you've got a great weekend planned.

I'm up visiting my Aunt, and I get to go to the hardware store and get a new LED dimmer and some new switches and outlets to replace some old ones.

She had her paneling painted white... All the switches and outlets are brown... The new LED down lights they installed are super bright...

So I will be an electrician today...

Just reading your work list has made me tired. But really, it sounds you've had a very productive weekend so far. Just keeping up with Mrs. 1/2cup seems quite the task all by itself. Good thing she was off to the hairdresser so you could get some shed time in.
Great work by you both!

1/2: i'm guessing Andrew didn't volunteer to do the yard work so you'd have time to work on his engine? looks like you have a great life keeping you very busy to say the least.

i like that line too about GIVING MRS. 1/2 CUP the day or even an hour off. more like it was GIVING you some time in the shed or to BS with your neighbor or Dad.

Mrs. 1/2 is definitely a keeper for sure and hope she doesn't read your posts. :D

drives, I have said to Andrew exactly that but he was in Melbourne yesterday afternoon for a party. In all fairness I have to give him credit when its due he has been a great help with the West Wing be it mowing and giving me a hand as needed, what ever.

Mrs 1/2 Cup also keeps up with domestics here like you wouldn't believe. Not to mention that with our DIL ( Amy ) expecting in November she also does their ironing and cooks the odd meal for them just because she can to help out.

Thank you all and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Well I'm impressed all around. My cold has me down, went out and watered some calves in a lot and that is all I wanted to do today, so hat's off to Mrs. 1/2 Cup and 1/2 Cup.:thumbup::thumbup:

I think I have posted about our long time neighbours and great friends before, anyway just a bit of a recap.

Rocket and Joy are just the salt of the earth, the sort of people who would give you the shirt of their backs.

He is a similar vintage to myself and done things pretty tough health wise over the years. A 30 year leukaemia survivor, bowl cancer survivor, now has failing eye sight and struggles physically to do stuff.

A die hard biker from way back he wheels and deals quite a bit and I can't keep up with the bikes he has amassed.

A real nice Anniversary Harley. A brand new Vespa, his every day commute and a Canam Spider just to name a few.

He had borrowed my trailer yesterday to pick up a patio blind for his carport and he wandered over this morning asking if I could give him a hand to put up the blind, yep sure can.

Blind up and Rocket is on happy chappy.

In conversation he went on to tell me about a garage clean out of a relative he had been involved with and the interesting stuff that was there. Being the sort of guy he is and very appreciative of my help he then proceeds to hand me over a G Clamp we had been using and said its yours. WOW.

When he first saw it, he went on to say he thought of me. Let me tell you I was just so humbled.

View media item 62229
The G Clamp is a kick *** 10 inch Australian made Malco unit, from the 50s or 60s I am guessing. It has little our no wear and hasn't been mistreated in any way that I can see.

I might just drop every thing and clean it up this afternoon.:)

Have a good one.

Wow 1/2 cup. For a second I thought you were going to get something accomplished this weekend.:lol_hitti

I don't know where you muster all the energy to get so much done. :dunno:

So Andrew decided he'd let Dad finish the engine? Good choice on his part. And he's probably just yanking your chain anyways.

Glad to hear you got so much completed over the last couple of days, now you can go back to work tomorrow and get some rest.:willy_nil

I'm off to have breakfast with my mom this morning and hopefully I will get a couple of projects done this arvo. Talk to you later.

A common language we have! That looks a lot like C clamps we have here, but I have to admit, it looks more like a G than a C.:willy_nil

Even so, I'd better not go to the store and ask for a G clamp. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I bought a C clamp in a store, or even a store that has anybody that knows what one is.

Dan,

I just cruise along trust me.

Andrew was yanking my chain for sure, he had had a few under his belt from the BBQ party he was at.;)

Just chipping away at things in reality.

Enjoy your breakfast with your Mom..

1/2, its Sunday evening.....how do the clamp come up in the bath? or is it too soon to tell?

Terrick, it should come up nicely in the bath. The issue I have now is that it would be great to see some sunshine to run the unit. I have not seen a winter like this for many, many years. The last few months have seen well above average rain falls around here.

Andy, I only know them as G Clamps, whatever they are be called it is certainly a nice one.

I spent last evening cleaning up the thread it looks like it had been covered in a preservative and it has come up like new..
Rocket has this knack of finding great stuff and being in the right place at the right time. Without fail he always offers his finds to me at the price he has paid for it. I have brought and been given heaps of stuff over the years.

Some examples

View media item 44359
Level, his dads.

View media item 44358
20 Tonne press brought from a school.

View media item 43333
A leg vice that came from his mates farm.

View media item 44339
A set of scales also from his mates farm.

And sundries to numerous to mention.

All,

I did manage to get all the carpet up and now have a trailer load to get rid of and a squillion underlay staples to remove.

The toilet suite has proven a challenge having to adapt a cast iron waste pipe to the pan. I will have to grout the pan as well due to the centre line heights being a ½ inch out.

Nothing to report on the K Series build.

Hve a great day and thank you one and all for dropping by..

They had some LED down lights installed. Not sure what flavor they are, but they are BRIGHT! They put three of them in a 15' X 20' room! One would have done the job... The dimmer works great and it has an on/off switch also. The white devices look MUCH better too...

I'm thinking about replacing the fluorescent tubes in the shop with LED at some point...

Well done Coop:thumbup:

LED tubes are expensive out here at the moment at around $18AU each I might just try a couple over my bench and see how they go.

Edit, you have got me going on the LED T8s I am picking up two from the wholesalers tomorrow to put in our kitchen as it is the most used one of all.

The MG F Update:

Andrew had the current engine on the dyno today if nothing else if establishes a bench mark for the new engine. You need to take into context that this is the out put at the rear wheels and not at the flywheel.

View media item 62272
Some food for thought in that lot..

Bear in mind this is a bog stock engine that has had 5 seasons of competition under its belt with a set of Piper Cams and a Jenvey Fuel Injection set up.

The line is now drawn in the sand...............................

133 hp (99.3KW) is not bad for a used 4 cyl. with not much work done to it. That would equate to around 156 hp (116KW) at the engine. By the way great job on all of the West Wing work you have been doing, the new tenant will surely appreciate the extra work y'all are putting into it.

Looks a bit weak for a k series with cam and throttlebodies doesn't it 1/2 cup? Is it known as a pessimistic dyno? Given the better mgf engine put out 160hp (at the engine), I thought with cams and throttlebodies you'd be easily over 180hp at the engine?

Nice press there 1/2 cup. I wish my 20 ton was that tall. And the post vise looks pretty sweet. Is there any stamping on the bottom of it?

JB the engine still runs well and is extremely reliable after five seasons of racing but the graph paints the picture. That engine will get a refresh after the new one is up and running.

The West Wing is progressing well and as Mrs 1/2 Cup said we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. Still there is a bit to do and it will be worth the effort in the long run I am sure.

Andrew, you are on the money there. I would have expected a little more out of it as well but I guess with the 5 seasons under its belt now it is a little tired.

Dan, thank you.

The press is a nice one.

Rocket picked it up for $100 from a special school auction and I happily paid the $100 to take it off his hands.

I must check the post vise out for any marking, that some thing I have not done as yet.

1/2 Cups LED tube replacement.

Any one considering replacement LED tubes please note the following:

I brought two T8 s just to give them a go and with tax they were a little cheaper than I had first expected at around AU $14.00 each:thumbup:

They will retro fit easily into an older fitting with a magnetic ballast.

However the kitchen light that I was intending to do the change over on ( T8 2X36 watt ) has a newer electronic ballast and its not just as easy as it seems. There is quite a bit of rehashing with the wiring to be done and the electronic ballast is no longer required.

I will let you know how it goes..

Thanks again for dropping by and have a good one.

Thanks 1/2 cup, I did start looking into the tubes after reading Dennis's (denwood) fit out notes. Didn't find quite the same model tube but one of the other models that I think was 6500k and around $20 a tube.

$14 seems pretty good, what ones did you end up with ?

Cheers GB.

GB, the tubes I brought are from Laurence and Hansen are a Torino LED by eco getic. Not sure what they will be like as yet. I will try and get them installed this weekend..

Thank you again and have a great day..

The week end is looking good and we have seen a little sunshine over the last few days. :)

Quite a number of the rivers and streams around here are at minor flood level following the well above average rain fall over the last few months..

I really like your post vise. I have an unhealthy weakness for them, made in forge shops of wrought iron, forge welded (hammer welded) together with good clean welds. If you look closely, where the screw goes through the moveable part, the eye is two pieces, each side formed in a half circle then welded together to make the eye and then the vise jaw welded on to that. First saw that on one that had been buried and was so corroded you could see the grain in the iron. Checking others, every one I have inspected is made the same way.

Andy, I have to admit that a leg vise just has so much character and I snapped that one up for $40.

This is my Grand fathers that I inherited from his smithy and I am not sure whether I should leave it as it is or give it the treatment...

. . . . . and work out my to do list..

Hearing you on that, and I'd like to say I'm copying you, but I think I'll just wing it!

I'd really like to get the first coat of top coat on the wood vise (but after 6 months I don't want to rush that :dunno:), and I'd like to wash both my car and Irene's ('cause you could probably get a good crop of potatoes on both at present after all the rain we've had :eyecrazy:), and I desperately need to get the new number plates mounted (or I'll have no credibility on GJ at all...... ;)).

Lyndon
Have a great weekend - wishing I was in Florida in a few hours time (& I can paint up a storm)....! :lol_hitti

Lyndon trust me you will lose your man card if you don't get those plates mounted.

Most of the cars at work are more like mobile compost bins now with all the rain and the car wash at work is flat knacker at the moment.

We could white wash Florida in an instant.;)

Quite a number of the rivers and streams around here are at minor flood level following the well above average rain fall over the last few months..
Was down at Ky a couple of weeks ago a few farmers where sheepishly saying they wished it would stop raining.

code4play Small world, you were just a stones throw from Tatura.

We have a Depot in Ky.

You are right there we have had enough rain for a bit now, the irrigation season starts August 15 but I can not see any irrigators needing water for another month or so apart from stock and domestic supplies.

The county is looking fantastic now, nice and green. I was down in Melbourne yesterday for work and went via Yea and Yarra Glen and it looked a picture.

All, my sister Kim turns 50 in a week and she has organised a huge get together ( Festival of Kim ) at her place which backs up to a local creek and is protected by a levy bank. The flood waters have inundated beyond the levy which is a natural bush setting that her fire pit and a huge mound of branches and timber that collects throughout the year it is a dumping ground for all our families tree pruning's, so it looks like no bonfire night to celebrate her birthday.

Thank one and all for the visit and have a great weekend.

I would leave it as is. Your grandfather's sweat and soul are in it as evidenced by the patina. That way, you can feel the warmth every time you use it. Bobby

Bobby, I really did not think of it that way.

Perhaps I should buy a third leg vise and literally give it the treatment instead. I am now thinking all bare metal finish like what I did to my 5 inch Dawn Vice.
