Now that sounds like a great idea. Do yours flower before the Melbourne Cup? On that note I hope you back a winner as I am sure that would help for that trip every one is talking about.

You can book me to carry the luggage for you. ;)

HOTFR8, We all need to do that more often than we think.

Our roses are out usually two weeks before the Melbourne Cup ( a horse race that "stops a nation" that we get a public holiday for the first Tuesday in November )

Here is one of last years blooms.

View media item 64887
I do not usually punt on the race but if there is a sweep going at work I do enter it. Sadly though the winnings wouldn't even fill your car with gas to get from here to the airport let alone a trip to the states:D

Have a top day...

Steve,
I apologize I haven't been around lately and am just now catching up on all of the happening. I'm sorry to hear of your recent battles and wishing you the best in this tough time. I don't have anything to add that hasn't already been said, but keep your head up and keep moving forward.

1/2: since it's a holiday for a HORSE RACE do you actually watch the race or just a good time to get some more QST or QFT (quality family time)?

hope your CHEEMO this week still works to get the STUFF it's trying to remove from your body or are you done with Cheemo now?

best of luck and more prayers sent for you to get back to 100%.

If you win perhaps you will have enough to buy a beer. That is if you feel like a beer. Either way enjoy the holiday. Many here have made it a long weekend being shut Saturday and taking a day off on Monday before the Tuesday and the race that stops a nation.

HOTFR8 Actually I haven't had a beer since I was diagnosed 4 months ago. I tried a small scotch for my birthday a few weeks ago and it tasted awful so I tipped it out. The same for coffee, these taste buds have had a real hammering with the Chemo.:headscrat

I am just pottering in the shed this week, basically cleaning up the storage areas. I have accumulated so much paint and left overs like tiles, grout from the home renovations and its amazing just how much space you free up..:3gears:

We see a lot of holiday makers up this neck of the woods over a long weekend and you are right many do take the opportunity to make it an extra long week end. Its pretty quiet around here today..

Beautiful rose Steve. Love the color.

Bobby, Thank you:thumbup:

We have had some lovely blooms this year as the conditions here have been ideal for roses in particular..

This Standard Rose is called Apricot Nectar

JB, no apologies required that's for sure...

The fight is still a ways from over ( its a journey ) and I am just going with the flow so to speak in regards to the treatment and time away from work, every one has been terribly supportive..

Drives, I do watch the race mainly because it gets repeated dozens of time and you cant but help not. I am making the most of the day with some QST and QFT just taking things easy as instructed...

My Chemo was cancelled on Monday due to my white cell count being a little low, ironically because of last weeks Chemo. :headscrat any way it was the Oncologists call and we have been rescheduled for next Monday.

The good news is this will be my last Chemo and I will then start on the Immunotherapy treatment, it in itself has its own side effects to but we will see how we go as I was fortunate not to have all the side effects with the Chemo :thumbup:

Thank you one and all for your visit, enjoy your day...

Drinks or no drinks. Either way enjoy the day and back a winner. Place is very quiet here and a mix of places open and closed. Shed time is out today for me and time outside is priority in between misty rain and the sun being out.

You may see some traffic heading to Mulwala next weekend for the big Rod Run.

HOTFR8, I am most certainly enjoying the day. :rocker:
Mrs 1/ 2 Cup has left me on my lonesome to help out at the Vic Women's dog show at Bulla so its peace and quiet here with no interruptions at all.
I was over cast here this morning but no rain at all, the sky has cleared this afternoon with a gentle breeze keeping temps down, ideal for the garden..

A few locals do attend the run and from all accounts its a good one..

The day started out miserable here with a misty rain but improved enough for me to wash cars even though it was windy. Not a perfect day to be trying to do things outdoors. I did burn the tree cuttings from earlier this week so all done before Fire Restrictions come in here soon.

The Run in the next few weeks is a big event and the members of Northern Suburbs Rod Club do a great job. I prefer the smaller event and that is only every second year. I missed it in 2016 but told it is on again in 2018. Not sure if I will get to that yet. It is run by Satellite City Rod Club.

Sounds like the day at home for you was a good one. In the garden smelling the roses. Has your sense of smell stayed with you?

1/2: sorry to hear your taste buds are not up to par and haven't been, but maybe if you, Mrs. 1/2 or a family member or friend might have time to bake some cookies that might help you. do you like molasses cookies?

here's a recipe I use and we used to call these GRAMP'S cookies cause he ate one or two every day with his 10 cups of black coffee. they don't have the healthiest ingredients, but Gramps lived to 93 and he was a logger for 65 of those years.

hope you have another good week and still sending prayers.

i made these molasses cookies for my parents that also love them and i had to test a few to make sure they weren't poisoned.

cheers

HOTFR8, It looks like we are in for some cracking days over the next week, although we could do with some rain.

The Satellite City Rod Clubs run is usually mid year I believe.??.

Its just fantastic to take things easy once in a while, that said having Chemo the body lets you know when you have over done things..
My sense of smell is fine and has not been effected at all..

Drives, My taste buds are ever so slowly recovering, something that smells nice to eat does not necessarily translate in to something that these taste buds deem as palatable.
Its a weird sensation and a hard one to describe to people.

The recipe for your Gramps cookies reads like one my grand mum and mum used to bake, I am sure Mrs 1/2 Cup has a copy and I will see if I can dig it up. Healthy ingredients or not they read like something I could eat. Your Gramps is testimony to that..

I am sure yours passed the taste test..

My weigh in this week has seen a steady increase in my weight and I have cracked the 60 kg mark ( 61.9 / 136 lbs to be precise ) so the specialist was pleased with that.

Thank you yet again for your thoughts and prayers...

Have a good one...

May. I have not made up my mind if I will go yet. They have the event every two years. I missed the last one and the one before I called in to see you and that was a wet trip.

Hey Chubby!:bounce:

Andy, :lol_hitti, I am still as skinny as a bean pole at the moment but I am working on chubbiness...

HOTFR8 It is getting a little warm here too, nudging 90 F over the last few days.

You will need to play the rod run by the weather being in May, its getting wet and cold at that time of the year.:dunno:

The last few days have been pretty lay back and just pottering in the shed and garden, nothing too stressful mind you.

I did take the opportunity to go back to work and catch up with the gang that I did get a chance to the other week, I spent a fair part of the day there which was fantastic and I even went to the Friday planning meeting with the troops.

Drives, things are ticking along nicely I am looking forward to the last Chemo on Monday so I can get things back to normal some what.

With the weight gain I am conscious of getting a balance and exercising as well, my muscle tone got a fair hammering too.

No more deals to speak of last week, my eyes are always open and your right I have just been doing a lot of reorganising in the shed and its amazing just how much space ( shelving and storage wise ) that I have been able to redeem..:3gears:

Other things I have been pottering around on have been reclaiming an old wine barrel that needs a bit of TLC and not too stressful to do..
I also started on some landscaping work on an ugly area between the Shed and the Garden Shed only doing what I can manage bit by bit.

Pics to follow.

Have a top weekend every one and as always enjoy..:3gears:

It is usually not Roadster weather and the only car that has not been to that event. I have been three times missing the last one. I took the F4 one year, two years later the XP Falcon and the time I called on you it rained all weekend so I went in the daily driver. The last one I missed due to other commitments. Will I go next year I do not know :dunno:.

Weather is perfect this weekend for the Lake Mulwala event.

I have no doubt some time back at work must have made you feel good.

HOTFR8, it most certainly did:3gears:
With not much shop talk either which was even better..

X2!

Glad the taste buds are recovering. My son in law's are continuing to get better after several years.

Andy, I am trying lots of different foods to see what's palatable and what's not. I can imagine it will take me some time to fully recover my taste buds.

Great update Steve. Exercise? Good Time to get your Arnold Schwarzenegger going on. lol

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Shorty, Arnie I am not.

I just have to keep chipping away at the exercise and do what I can physically cope with and not over do things.

For the last week or so I have been doing little bits at a time on an old wine barrel that needs some TLC.

The timbers had dried out and shrunk so its time..
. Pressure wash.
. A good scrub with Cabots Deck Clean.
. Pressure wash again.
. I am hoping that maintaining the moisture in the timber will help it swell back to normal size.

The other little project I have been working on is to makeover this ugly area between the shed and garden shed. It had been over grown with ivy ( non poisonous ) I have decided to continue the pavers an crushed blue stone theme to match what I have done else where around the home.
It has been slow going for this black duck just a small shovel full at a time and 1/2 a barrow load is all I can manage but I am getting there as it has been on of those jobs..:willy_nil

Slow and steady gets the job done. That barrel and landscaping project will both look great when finished at what ever pace is good for you.

Nice to see you working on some projects Steve. Forgive my stupidness but what is the Black Duck reference? I have a woodworking buddy on Lumberjocks who is Aussie that has his username as LittleBlackDuck.

I'm assuming the "black duck" and "little black duck" is in reverence of Daffy Duck in the Warner Brothers' cartoons we grew up with, and who used the phrase when he was speaking in the third person about himself. I'm sure 1/2 Cup will correct me if it means something else.

For the Black Duck translation below..

Its a fairly common expression in Australia with a note to file : an actual Black Duck is a hunted species as well during duck season..

Spot on Ralf..

Thank you..

Yes the Black Duck term is 1/2 referring to himself.

HOTFR8 , as above..

Thank you..

Another little project that has been gathering dust in my shelves for quite some years is this 60 year old light fitting designed for hazardous environments that i salvaged from a dumpster.
Basically it just needed a clean up, new LED lamp and lead which I finished today.

Not sure where I am going to use it at the moment.:dunno:

A nice looking lamp. I am sure in time you will find a great place for it. Some times finishing those little projects they suddenly find an essential place to be used.

An early start for you must be some time after midnight. You are often on the forum at times I would consider early and still sleep time. Then you often start work early as well so old habits die hard.

A fine made in Melbourne ROWCO ? To me I think it requires a gooseneck mount and to be located above a garage/shed door.

Good luck for tomorrow.

A little shovel work is great exercise:thumbup:

Do you have the other two bands for the barrel? I had a half whiskey barrel for a slack tub in my blacksmith shop. It would swell right back up by putting a little water in the bottom daily, then raising the level as it swelled. Finally had a band rust in two and did not take time to make another. I need to find another barrel as it makes a great slack tub and looks quaint.

We pray for black ducks in these parts, pardner.

1/2: best of luck on the Cheemo today and hoping for the best as per usual.

I love your brick work and wondering how you set them so they stay so smooth and flat? care to tell us your secret? also what do you put in the cracks just sand or is it a concrete or mortar type mix?

that root looks likes a monster and you probably wouldn't be able to put your truck on it, but maybe a come along? or just steady digging and a hand or chain saw?

hope you gain a few pounds this week and keep moving forward.

cheers

HOTFR8, you are right there, it was just taking up shelving space and one of those little projects that was annoying the heck out of me, now I have a fully functional unit ready to be installed somewhere around here..

Early start:lol_hitti, certainly not for me but for the Oncology Staff . At 8.30 am in the morning 1/2 a day has passed for me....
I have to have the bloods done at 7. 00 at pathology beforehand, this determines whether the Chemo can go ahead or not..
My Chemo appointments up until today have always been in the afternoon..

A fine made in Melbourne ROWCO ? To me I think it requires a gooseneck mount and to be located above a garage/shed door.

Good luck for tomorrow.

Ralf99 the light fitting is a VICTOR, which I had never heard of before.
I have seen and worked with a lot of Wilco fittings over the years.
It has a machined cast aluminium body with a real thick glass dome.
I am with you as I am thinking of mounting it above one of the PA doors in the shed..

Go Steve! Still rooting for your team.

Thank you Bobby, all is going well so far.

Glad to see you out in the shed! Hope
you're feeling ok.

Andrew, thank you:thumbup: apart from a little fatigue and muscle soreness I am feeling great and just working with in the bodies ability to cope..

A little shovel work is great exercise:thumbup:

Andy, thank you.

Spot on exercise and a good diet really gets the metabolism going which is what I need now ( that's my assessment in any case );)

I do have the other rings for the barrel. These are galvanised and in really good condition.
I have been putting water in it on a daily basis and keeping it shaded in the hope it will swell back to its original shape as the rings are a little loose..
I have to admit they do look great and this one has been neglected for a few years sadly..

Good luck tomorrow Steve! You are in my prayers for sure! I have gotten used to the black duck term. I like it.

Take care,
Joe

Joe, thank you..

The term black duck does have a certain connotation to it - to me any way

NOUN
an idea or feeling which a word invokes for a person in addition to its literal or primary meaning:
"the word ‘discipline’ has unhappy connotations of punishment and repression" · [more]
synonyms: overtone · undertone · undercurrent · implication · hidden meaning · secondary meaning · nuance · flavour · feeling · aura · atmosphere · colouring · smack · hint · vein · echo · [more]
philosophy
the abstract meaning or intension of a term, which forms a principle determining which objects or concepts it applies to. Often contrasted with denotation.
synonyms: meaning · understanding · construal · connotation · reading · explanation · inference · conclusion · supposition

After reading the above I wonder:willy_nil

drives, thank you...

All went well today for the last Chemo...:rocker:

My blood counts were a little down however it was not enough to stop the treatment from progressing. So we are done and dusted for the time being.:rocker:

My next Oncology Specialist appointment and bloods are in two weeks time and this will determine when I start on the immunotherapy.

On the brick paving, there is no real secret here, I bed them in on a 3 -4 sand base which I get nice an level in the first instance and the bricks just fall in to place sometimes only requiring minor adjustment to the height and spacing which for the most part can be done by eye.
To fill in the gaps I use a dry 6:1 sand / cement mix, well compacted then mist sprayed to soak the mix right through.

The root should be fairly easy as it has pretty much rotted away..

Another 2 lbs this week:rocker: I still have a ways to go but we are getting there..

I thank you one and all, have a top day....
