1/2: i'm wondering if you might have a good SHIATSU down in your area that you can go to and get some relief from some of the joint pain? I had one up here that spoke about 98% Japanese that I used for about 20 years. I never told him where it hurt, but he always found it and fixed it. Acupuncture is another option if you might have somebody good cause they can do some pretty amazing things.

I bet your 2 week vacation really went by too fast, but I bet going back to work isn't the worst thing cause your job and fellow workers actually sound pretty good.

cheers!!

Steve, as usual, fantastic. Add as all the others have said, the roses are incredible. Like Andy, I have no luck growing them. if it wasn't for the wild roses we have on our property, we wouldn't have any.

Enjoy a little time off.

Drives, I haven't actually considered SHIATSU at all but I should give it a go and we do have a newly opened Acupuncture Clinic just around the corner from here again its something I must have a look at:thumbup::thumbup:

The vacation did go all to quickly as per usual and I had a pile of backlog to get through let me tell you but I am nearly up to date now.

Dan thank you:thumbup:

Roses are easy to grow and they take not a lot of looking after to be honest, if any one can kill a plant its me but they have really flourished:thumbup:

The more time I take off, the more retirement is beckoning for this black duck.

Thank you one and all, have a great week end.

It is Armistice day here today 11/11/18 when the guns fell silent on the Western Front 100 years ago today and we remember the fallen.

Thanks for posting the picture of the roses, they soo look great and it looks nice having them on the carport too. We had a customer that spent about a million dollars having a post and beam barn built, it had cedar shingles on the roof and a few years later they were all flying away, I guess cedar will eat certain nails and the contractor did not use the right kind.

We don't need to pay attention to that old fashioned stuff, those old guys didn't know what they were doing, we just design by computer and everything is better than it used to be.

The Great War

It always humbles me the sacrifices made by ANZAC in essentially a war of others on the other side of the world.:bowdown:

The "Great War" armistice was signed at 5:00 in the morning but wasn't to take effect until 11:00 Paris time. I'm guessing it wasn't the soldiers in the trenches who wanted the delay. Those guys weren't thinking all that clearly either. Not wanting to to haul away their unused ammunition, the fighting continued and there were 10,944 casualties and 2,738 deaths that last day.

Henry Gunther, an American, was killed 60 seconds before the armistice came into force while charging astonished German troops who were aware the Armistice was nearly upon them. He had been despondent over his recent reduction in rank and was apparently trying to redeem his reputation.

My flag and light went up at 10:00 Sunday morning and will be flying through Monday night.

Strouty that was too easy:thumbup:

That must have been some post and beam barn for a $1m

Using the wrong fasteners can be a trap some times that not only goes for timber but metals as well, we have a lot of issues with galvanic corrosion. You are right choose carefully.

I never knew there were so many casualties and deaths on the last day:shocking:

I did see a story about Henry Gunther it was on the ABC last year I think:bowdown:

We as a familly always pause to remember them.

May there be a day when soldiers are no longer needed, because we as a species have finally gotten our act together. Thanks to those who have served.

Just checking in on the pickets......

Guess they are as time consuming as they are plentiful

Rian don't talk to me about pickets, but Mrs 1/2 Cup is still doing a great job when she can painting the pickets, one coat of primmer and two top coats before I get my hands on them to install them so it has been slow going but I m in no hurry as it gives me more QST in the mean time.

It is a fairly time consuming job for her and I do get the easy bit in reality.:thumbup:

WELL SAID.
We lost 5 great uncles and about 7 other family relations in that area. My great grandfather made it home but was full of shrapnel and died before I was born.

I am lucky enough to say that the small estate that we live in is very lucky (345 blocks ranging from 5 acre to 200 acres). We have people from all over this great planet who want to live here and just about everyone gets along, we have the usual couple of yobbos but you get them everywhere.
At the Fairs and BBQ's around here the aroma of cooking and beverages is fantastic. Like Sunday mornings across the valley we had an Italian lady that would bake bread on a wood fired oven and the sweet smell would drift down for about 3 miles. You could not imagine how nice that was to wake up too.
So all I can wish for, is that we all keep trying to keep our own identity and acknowledge the beliefs of others.

Or in basic terms.....not everyone will buy a Buick or Ford or Mazda, or like Vegemite.

Terrick, you are spot on:bowdown:

What's wrong with Vegemite?

Andy Vegemite is a real acquired taste, I like but many can't handle it.

Ralf99 thank you.
It has been around for years, there is nothing like it on oven fresh bread or hot toast ozzing with butter:drool:

Look for my post in this topic with an apology to 'Men At Work'. :lol_hitti

1/2: i'm not sure i've ever seen or eaten VEGAMITE, but by the sounds of it the taste is an acquired one.

give me some good bread, pesto, home grown tomatoes and some fresh mozzarella and i'm good to go with a good cold mug of homemade ice tea.

IT'S SATURDAY!! I know you could use a few more of them so maybe see if the boss will allow you a 3 day week where you turn Mondays and Fridays into SATURDAYS? sort a early retirement regimen.

great stuff on the old wars and history and yes sadly I bet we'll never not have any feuding, but it would be nice if we could all get along.

enjoy your weekend and hopefully Mrs. 1/2 won't work you too hard.

Was great till they decided to mess with the recipe a while back, ruined it

Now it hardly resembles the original product. :(

I lived away from Australia for many years and rarely partook in the joys of Vegemite as it was difficult to source. On returning 5 or so years ago I went to rekindle the relationship but it just wasn’t the same - it took me a while to realise that it was the recipe that had changed - and I haven’t had it since.
Thankfully there are alternatives available that hark back to the original flavour and texture.

Drives you must try it at some point.

Yours sounds nice and yummy as well.

We do have what is known as transition to retirement plans in place where you can do just that. Key to what I do in the short term is that we are going through a restructure at work from which we will know the out come in the early new year which may mean a redundancy package:headscrat
So I am not doing a thing till that gets sorted then I can review my retirement plans at that point.

I sincerely do wish we could all stop the feuding as it does nobody any good.

Mrs 1/2 Cup is still working on painting the pickets for the West Wings front fence. I fitted a few more yesterday its slow going but she is insistent on doing them right.

Ralf99 I still have it. What others have you tried that compare to the original?

All, blood tests again and my first scan for some time now an I get the results back on Wednesday and I have my fingers crossed that things are improving.

All I think I have said it before but progress on the West Wings picket front fence has been a slow job but we are getting there.

Fixing the individual pickets takes no time, painting is the killer.

Mrs 1/2 Cup went and brought herself a garage creeper that folds into a stool so as she can paint the final coat in situ, especially the lower plinth boards.

It will come in handy in the shed after she has finished with it.

I trust your day is going well.

1/2: I like that you and Mrs. 1/2 decided to cut off the tops of the pickets and just square them off before repainting them.

i'm crossing my fingers your job situation goes in your favor and of course hoping your doctors have good news for you when the test results come back.

how are you feeling??

Drives thank you:thumbup:
The square top pickets are not he norm around here but they fit the bill I think.

I am not too perturbed about our job situation, as I have been through one with every change of management or government over the last 20 years. Many of our younger staff that are not used to change have found the situation of not knowing what the outcome may be are understandably very concerned and it does have a huge effect on moral with a staff of over 700.

I to am looking forward to a positive outcome when I get the scan results for sure:thumbup:

I am still feeling tired and fatigued even though I get a good nights sleep, a bit puffed if I over do things but I am on top of the joint pain for the most part. Apart from that I feel not to bad overall.

Have a top day and thanks for dropping by:thumbup:

HOTFR8, Mrs 1/2 Cup came to me with a Repco Auto catalogue and said "what do you think of this for painting the fence" and naturally I said go for it, she went and picked it up for her self. I am not one to argue a deal like that.

I do believe **** Smith made a similar product. It was called OzEmite until a legal name issue came up.

Ooooo, no pressure then in coming up with suitable alternative to an Australian icon. For what it's worth, my current preference is Mighty Mite.

As HotFR8 has mentioned, I'm told Ozemite is not too bad, however I have an issue with some of **** Smiths business practices so have not tried it myself - it is still available in supermarkets though.

For those of us not familiar with Vegemite, it's a savoury spread that's been a staple of Australian breakfasts and school lunches for the best part of a century, albeit at least part owned by the Australian arm of Kraft for 90 or so years until it was bought by our local Bega Cheese group in 2017.

Vegemite is very similar to Marmite from the UK, and was created in response to a shortage of Marmite imports at the end of the first world war.

One of its key ingredients is derived from yeast left over from the beer brewing process. I used to drive past the Kraft factory in Port Melbourne on my way home from work everyday and could always tell when they were processing a batch of Vegemite - the sweet aroma of the yeast would waft a mile or two around the factory.

Hijack over.
