Wow! That looks fantastic 1/2 Cup! I'm very impressed. The brackets for the vine really set it off too...

Many thanks for you kind words, very much appreciated I can assure you.

I even got the thumbs up from Mrs 1/2 Cup, who was not real sure just how the ceiling would look in corrugated iron and was very keen for me to use plasterboard ( dry wall ) to get a smooth finish. I did consider doing just that earlier but glad I went the way I did.

Have a good one.

Nicely done. Looking great!

How are the panels attached?

Many thanks Riven.

From the camera angle you can't see the fixing at all, I have valley fixed the sheets to the furring channel using the least amount of 5/16 hex head gal self driving screws that I needed to take out the small amount of sag in the sheet in its own weight.

The sheets are fairly ridged, not that heavy and sit in place fairly well. I have also used some discretely placed pop rivets just to tie things together.

Very well done Sir, looks great....
Do you plan to cover the "outriggers" to gain a little more weather protection??

Many thanks Lynn for dropping by, appreciated.

The original carport had support columns very close to the drive way moving these to the boundary has given clearance to open a car door if you park in the wrong spot and was a constant source of debate between Mrs 1/2 Cup and my self.

The area that is not covered at the moment will have three storage modules which will provide some weather protection, bear in mind we do not get snow here.
As the build progresses I am constantly re-evaluating things and this is one of them. I was limited to what I could do under the permit conditions and one of them is that I could not increase my existing foot print in terms of effective roof area.

:thumbup:Looks great and works perfect with the character of the rest of the carport and house, GOOD JOB sir:thumbup::beer:

Many thanks BF

Our home was originally built in 1949 when building materials were in short supply after the war and in terms of categorizing a style it is a difficult one with some Art deco features from the 30s blended with post war features.
So it has been a challenge for me not only with the carport but all the projects, alterations and renovations we have done over the years, to find that happy medium were things just click in terms of style.

1/2: I sold a lot of homes in 30 years as a Realtor and looked at thousands each year and i never saw a carport as nice as the one you just built. AWESOME !!!!:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

I saw somebody else ask this question and i didn't because i have yet to read your entire thread, but are you planing on putting any tarp or other covering over those awesome extension/supports you have on each side of your roof? any idea on the total cost and is it all aluminum or stainless?

again congrats and hope your elbow is feeling a bit better and you deserve a rest.

cheers

Awesome job, just what we've come to expect from you.

My only question is "What's under the blue tarp?"

Hoping it's another project!

Looking good. I'll beet its a good feeling of accomplishment and that you don't have to shoot any more screws!

rmalkow, Yep, It is a great feeling to reach this milestone. I am over tech screws, rivets and getting up and down ladders I can assure you and thanks heaps.

Thanks a million drives. The next phase is the Storage Solution which fits between the columns and is something that is just a figment of my imagination at the moment and all will be revealed in due course.

The structural stuff is all galvanized steel.

To date the total build has cost just on AU $5200.00 and that's materials only as the labor was all mine, I would hate to even has at a guess how many hours I have put into it over the last six months.

Very well done 1/2 Cup! It looks awesome!

My grand fathers horse drawn wagon circa 1910, has been stored under cover all its life and is in remarkable condition.
I inherited it some 20 years ago when the family farm was sold.

Thanks again every one, truly appreciated.

The carport looks great in the daytime and nighttime. Those lights really light it up.
That wagon is a nice piece. The wheels look like they are in great shape.

Thank you akdiesel

The wagon is nice and solid, the wheels are as tight the day they were built. I have purposely left it as it came out of the barn. One sentimental piece.

Top job 1/2 Cup.
Your attention to detail is superb.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you ajohno  appreciated.

What a great wagon 1/2 Cup. I remember my Grandfathers wagon when I was younger. We'd climb all over it as kids but when my uncle bought the farm he 'cleaned' everything up and I was way too young to know any better. Everything when to the scrap man or into the tip :(

Thanks Scott, we did the same as kids. I remember making stuff in my grandfathers black smith shop in the forge as well, we were fortunate that our family really appreciated his legacy and heritage as a fair bit of my grandfathers blacksmith shop gear is now in a local heritage museum.

The carport looks great and so does the wagon, but I'm dying to see what the Storage Solution will look like.

Many thanks xtremek.

I haven't really articulated much about the Storage Solution at all, mainly because is only a concept idea at this point in time.

First and foremost I do not want build another permanent building in the space due to our building codes around here.

My thinking at the moment is to purchase three cut down shipping containers to fit the space. Then fit them out accordingly.

I had a look at an 8 x 8 x 9'6" high container use for chemical storage at one of our depots and it looks like it will fit the bill.

The trick will be to make them work both practically and aesthetically, I believe it will be achievable.

Well its all happening tomorrow , my eldest son is finally tying the knot to his fiancé, a future daughter in law that a father and mother in law can be proud of.

The wedding is in the Yarra valley at the Maroondah Reservoir park

with the reception at a winery that is not too far away.

The long and the short of it - no shed or carport stuff this weekend.

Have a great weekend guys.

This is my first post on here, and I've read every one of you posts.
I'd love to have the time, patience and skill to fabricate "things" like you do, but I don't. So I have to just look in awe at yours. Well done.

BTW, you're only 15 minutes away from me at that winery. I used to help launch hot air balloon flights from there years ago. Hope the day went well.

Matt.

1/2: I hope your new family member gives your son and the rest of your family as much of a smile through the years. I hope the day goes as planned. or went well if it's already come and gone since i'm not quite sure what our time and day difference is for you and me. congrats and sounds like she is a great gal. My 27 year old daughter got married a couple years ago to a great guy and my wife and daughter spent months planning it. my 25 year old boy/girl twins are waiting to find their soul mates still.

our 38 year old got married maybe 12 years ago now and they have a 4 and 1 year old boys. lastly our 40 year old just had a baby girl with his girlfriend so our family is getting almost as big as my vise collection.

Good luck

i really like the sounds of your container idea to enclose up the carport and can't wait to see what you can do. as mentioned you've done an amazing job already.

i also enjoy your pictures of your job and the areas you work and turning on the huge faucet for that water must be fun. yes??

cheers
