I have been a little preoccupied at work of late so progress on things in the shed has been a little slower than normal, however I have managed to get a little more done on the column / truss connector brackets for the carport build.

I have a habit of creating a lot of work for by myself adding fancy bits that don't necessarily add any thing other than aesthetics.

Rolling the gusset pieces.

A preassembly of the connectors prior to welding.

I took a break from the Carport / Storage Solution build on Sunday and concentrated on the Fabrication bench and fitted the stainless draw cases to their respective draw slides.

Measure three times, mark, then drill, trust me.

I was extremely happy with how the six draws fitted up.:)

Thanks akdiesel, you can't buy stuff like that off the shelves and if you want to get some one to do it for you it would cost a fortune.

You have me thinking numbers now.:willy_nil

To put it in perspective there is over a full days labour that includes:
. 68 measure and mark out.
. 68 cold saw cuts.
. 224 further measure and mark outs.
. 224 centre punches.
. 224 5/32 pilot holes.
. 224 5/16 drilled holes.
. 448 counter sinks.

This also excludes materials procurement.

I had a little spare time this evening and fitted the first of the stainless panels to the Fabrication bench.

The draws will be similar with the same clearances to match and slightly recessed to the frame.

Mrs 1/2 Cup preferred the dome nuts in preference to the stainless wing nuts I had originally used, she commented that it looked too busy. Once again she was right.:thumbup:

Bolts places would be the better option price wise, maybe even Keebles.

And my niece used to ask if we were going to daddy's toy store (Bunnings) or mine (Total Tools/Supercheap Auto).

PS - things are moving along since I was last online.

Its the most expensive way to buy bits and pieces for sure but when Mrs 1/2 Cup suggested that I use dome nuts it was after 5.00 pm and the other places I would have ordinarily purchased them from were closed, so the big green box store was my only option.

I can't wait to see it finished now.:thumbup:

We are lucky here in terms of hardware and fastener supplies, with Coventry, Thomas Warburton, Ultimate Fasteners, Blackwoods, just to name a few along with all the major hard ware stores and with in about 5 minutes drive of here.
I usually keep a basic range of fasteners on hand and the stuff I use most of I will buy in bulk and as you say is heaps cheaper than buying those small packaged assortments.

There is always something on the go here for sure and thanks for checking in.:thumbup:

Forgot you are in a rural area where you have that stuff handy!

Out west where I am (Calder Park Raceway) there is a Bunnings, Supercheap, Repco and Image Auto Parts within walking distance. Closet bolt supplier is on Keilor Park Drive, heading towards the airport via the back roads.

After that I need to head towards Braybrook/Laverton or Campbellfield to find anything decent.

Like you I tend to buy in bulk when I can.

How do you like the new Mig?

There is 24 teks holding the top on:thumbup: ouch..
We are a bit spoilt for choice. Masters are opening here soon.
I find those few extra bits and pieces are real handy.

Thanks for your kind comments Herb:thumbup: The more I look at the more I think its just right. It took about 2.5 hours to measure and fit the support brackets on the first one, I completed the second one tonight in about half the time.

I have a cousin that has a farm in Holden rd Diggers Rest, just behind Calder Park, small world.:thumbup:

I guess we are fortunate here in terms of choice, that said they don't carry everything you need and rule of thumb its two days after ordering.

I don't envy you travelling to Campbellfield its probably quicker from here.

Love the new welder, works nicely on the stick and the TIG is just a gem the only issue is the person at the controls, I need to get used to the new helmet as well but I will get there.
I will post some photo shopped pictures of my welds at some point.:lol:

I am really pleased with how the fabrication bench has turned out, for mine it has achieved and exceeded all my expectations.
. It repurposed a heap of 3 x 3 x 1/8 SHS that I had that were originally our perimeter fence posts.
. Offers me fantastic functionality in terms of its multi purpose flexibility.
. Provides a very stable yet manoeuvrable work platform.
. Aesthetically it has some , IMHO, has some nice contrasts with the raw metal and brushed stainless finishes.

I love the new welder, it almost talks to you. The next challenge will be to try it on aluminium.;)

This is where I tell you that the owners of Aussie Disposals are long time friends (Bernie and I raced and built together when we were in our early 20s) - so yes, very small world!

Hopefully I'll get up to see them in the coming weeks.

I should start a thread finally with the projects I AM about to complete once the house is painted mid next week.

:headscrat I guess we are talking about the same place. So many new factories and many of the roads not even on the GPS or the melways map.

Actually I don't think we are now - the one I am thinking of is The Metric Men on Keilor Park Drive near the round about for Stadium Drive and Tullamarine Park Road.

Two weeks of annual leave and loving it.:rocker:

The focus over the weekend has been the column to truss connecting brackets for the Carport / Storage Solution build

I should complete them today in readiness for galvanizing.

Making good use of the Fabrication bench that's not quite complete.

I had to share a snap of the welds done on my old J.I.C. Mig/Mag 300, these are not structural welds by any stretch but will look the part when they are dipped.
