Now that the Fabrication Bench has been signed off as complete, I fitted some new electrics to the desk lamp I scored of EBAY a few weeks ago, although not period correct as I have done with other lamps in the past the newer style fittings and lead are a hell of a lot safer for every day use. I have picked up a 40 watt BC LED daylight lamp to try as well.

I picked up another couple of sets of castors the other week firstly to make a another trolley that will fit the 20 tonne press to make it mobile. Although along the same lines as below it will be a little bigger than the other set I made last year and be multi functional as against fitting the castors permanently to the press.

View media item 31942
The second set of castors that you see mounted to the angle iron will go to make another utility table the same but a little lower than my first. I use it daily and is the best thing since sliced bread.

Have a great day, regards.

Super fine work there my friend!! I like the bench shown in your photo, and your shop is quite a nice place to be. Now I have to ask---is that "wall paper" behind your bench? If so, your very far ahead of me in decor!! Quite pleasant to look at.
Also nice you have some shop time to play---Mine has been pretty short here during the holidays.

As Always great work and my best regards

Many thanks for dropping by Herb and your kind comments as always.

The work bench you see has a 16# black steel top with integral splash back, peg board on the walls and a window for a bit of natural light that has mesh imbedded in the glass. Here is an older picture that details it a little better.

Excuse the mess. Its a little tidier than that now..

That flash looking bench,
The concrete work area outside the shed,

or just the simple fact that you have a "to do" list ... with completed projects scratched off it ..

Bench looks a treat ..

Love the smaller mobile work table and would like to see pics of your press when mounted on the trolley you made.

That's the 20 tonne press I brought a couple of months ago second hand but it is hardly used and I think a trolley arrangement similar to the one above will work well.

My mobile work bench is just the bees knees, I do a lot of work out side on the front apron of the shed and all the tools and stuff I need are just there. I weld on it as well. Mrs 1/2 Cup even uses it to re pot plants on and drags it around the garden as she is pruning with all her tools on it.

Apart from the castors I made it out of off cuts, and the Red Gum top was once our old back door step ( some 70 years old ). Even the angle iron was one of our old window lintels.

I will post pics as I go for sure.

Regards
Thanks again for dropping by..

Mrs 1/2 Cup is away in Melbourne for a few days so the productivity in the Shed Downunder has ramped up a notch.

I started and finished the new trolley that will predominately be used for the press, the paint is still a little tacky at the moment so I will wait until tomorrow to see how it goes..

Picked up some draw liners at a local auto parts store that were pretty cheap in comparison to what options I looked at and fitted them to the Fabrication Bench as well.

I placed the press on the trolley this morning. It fits well and is very stable.

My smaller trolley that has the air conditioner on it has been handy as well, just another project one day. I have had the new unit for 12 months to replace the one in the bedroom that runs on R22 and has a minute leak on the evaporator, it still works ok but have to blow a little gas in it every couple of years so its time is up when I get a break in the traffic..

Room is my biggest issue as well, the thing about it is having castors I can move it outside as I prefer working outdoors when the weather is ok.

I removed the draw cases this morning to finish them off and tack in the front pieces.

View media item 46304

It is amazing what a few hours of Quality Shed Time can produce.

After tacking up the draw cases and refitting them I aligned and installed the Brushed Stainless Draw facia panels and handles.

Yet another project done and dusted.

Great job, I may copy your idea on the mobile fab bench!

Copy away nines it is certainly handy for what I do.

Hey, those trolley's came out great. I'm more and more convinced that mobile is the way to go in a smaller shop.

rmalkow, mobility is definitely the key around here for sure. I hate working in, around and over stuff it also makes cleaning a lot easier as well.

Table came out awesome.... And in true GJ fashion it went straight to work.

Thanks Gerard  I have to admit being that little bit extra careful with the new draws fitted but the bench is just great to use.

That is a piece of art there hafcup. How do you find the time. You are truly what we around here call a "doer". "Doer hafcup" tha's what I am going to start calling you. I am curious and if you don't mind me askin, how old are you. And do you have any help on these projects.

Buickfarmer Appreciated, many thanks
I clock in at 58, my wife, my shed, our home, our garden, family and friends are my solace in life.
I still work more than full time and I am enjoying this week or so off work.

I love what I do in the shed, what more can I say. The GJ has provided me with the inspiration and motivation to go the extra mile over the last few years.

With pretty much all of my projects what you see is all my work, my son and a few friends will quite often give me a lift or a hand if I yell. I do leverage off friends, mates if I need some machining or sheet metal work done, so I wheel and deal a lot which helps the cause.

Today I am having a bit of a slack attack and just pottering in the garden.

Many thanks again guys, enjoy your day.

No slowing down at the end of 2014 for 1/2Cup.

Taking some long service leave in 2015 is looking very appealing at the moment HOTFR8 if nothing more than just to get some projects out of the way.
Having this week off has been pretty productive although I will be kicking back today and just reading the latest edition of Classic Wings that arrived in the mail this morning.

Any luck with the windex my friend down under?

Ha funny you should ask Sean, tell Martha Stewart next time you see her that Windex leaves streaks on brushed stainless steel, true.

I tried, Windex, Metho, McGuire's Detailer stuff, White Spirit and CRC Glass Clean and they all left streaks.

Mrs 1/2 Cup asked me what I needed as I was looking through the cleaning stuff in the laundry and I said some thing that will take finger prints off stainless, she pointed to the tap and said "just water and a lint free cloth" that's all I use and ****** me she was right - again!!
A mildly damp lint free cloth and wipe in one direction, brilliant.

Most of the commercial kitchens I put together are predominantly stainless steel. All of the dishwashers, coolers, sinks, hoods, ductwork, countertops, ect.

We spend a lot of time cleaning SS.

I've been fairly happy with Claire's SS cleaner and clean micro fiber cloths.

You are right about wiping with the grain.

Change the cloths often for best results.

Mrs 1/2 Cup is a big fan o Micro fibre cloths, I will check out Claire's and wether its available out here.

It may help with the other issue I have and that is Shelby's nose prints on the draws.

Loads to say here.....

Table cam up beautifully, as all your jobs seem to do.

Thanks for your friendship, the plate you posted for Christmas.

Happy new year to you and your family when it gets to you......

Nicola is at work today, so this will actually be my first proper garage day on my own, without distractions, to get on with my own stuff. Spent yesterday at mate Martin's turning 4 foot gates into 6 foot gates, with minimal tools, starting at -1'C and ending the day at 2'C
Problem is Martin is good at welding and bashing, but less successful with woodwork.

Anyway, loads of small dismantling jobs ahead.

Looking forward to your next big "little" job.

Thanks for the tip:thumbup: I will put it on Mrs 1/2 Cups shopping list.

BTW those Maxim cabinets look not to bad.

They are the ducks for sure. Next time you are down in Melbourne, they have a show room out Oakleigh way, or let me know. I have 3 of the wall cabinets, 1 base and the 42" base. Extremely good value for money.

The wall cabinets are supplied with a pair of substantial steel mounting brackets.

In the US, they are available through Sam's Club. Bunnings also have some of them, but in a cream colour rather than black.

Enjoy the few hours left, I get to start raising the rear corner of a garage tomorrow to start 2015 off.

This is probably not helpful but I did find a stainless cleaner at a local restaurant supply warehouse with a great name: Sheila Shine.
http://www.sheilashineinc.com/
Quart1-221x300.jpg

You apply a light coat with a clean cloth and dirt and finger marks are gone. The reason this may not be helpful is that it's made in Miami, Florida and doesn't have a distributor down under (actually the whole southern hemisphere).

I bought Sheila Shine for the name (I'm an Uncle Bob to some) and for its ingredients. It contains:

  • Light and heavy paraffinic petroleum solvent distillates
  • Xylene
  • Methyl Salicylate
  • Perchloroethylene
  • Ethylbenzene
Most of those ingredients are toxic so I bought a quart -- I'm 70 so it should last me the rest of my potentially shortened life.

Nicola feeling better now?
Sounds like you and Martin are very complimentary to each other when it comes to project work, great stuff.

We are looking at a scorcher here today, forecast for 40c. so air conditioning on in the shed I can tell you.

Thanks for the tip and link Bob, I have to agree that's one toxic brew for sure. Now my next challenge is to see where I can get here, I should check out their affiliate companies as well.

Thanks for dropping by and your input guys, it is truly appreciated.

All the best for the New Year, at this point in time we are now 5 hours into 2015..

Just a bit of an update on this weeks activities, most of which has just been pottering around in the Shed Downunder and tying up a few PITA jobs on the Carport / Storage Solution build.

. The electrical rough in has been completed ready for fitting off after the ceiling goes in.

. I completed the guttering down pipe cut in to the main storm water discharge this morning and that was a nice one to have finished as I had to lift paving to gain access then reinstate every thing, the job went smoothly and didn't fight me all the way as some jobs tend to do.

. Replaced 4 X 50 watt Halogen lamps with 5.5 watt LED retrofits that work really well in comparison mind you they are for area lighting on the front veranda and not a specific task light. The reduction in the heat output is amazing.

. And while musing over life over a coldy in the shed the other night I have come to the conclusion that I really need to take a leaf out of your shed digests and tackle some of the horror areas in mine, namely my under bench shelves even Mrs 1/2 Cup has threatened to come and do it for me, but she has offered some great solutions.

View media item 27588

Remember those nice stainless draws on the Fabrication Bench well there will soon be another nine under the full length of my main work bench that's against the wall.

I picked up the 48 ft of 2 x 1 RHS steel yesterday to fabricate the draw slide frames and ordered the slides and stainless handles to match the bench as well.
The draws will tidy things up some what and should look the part.

Another day another project.

I am expecting the roofing iron and guttering for the carport to arrive next week.

Have a good one..
