You might have said it before but what gauge are your DRAW fronts? Are you forming them with a brake?
Oh and now I have seen it all. A Makita married to a Dewalt. A Makwalt or a Dekita. Jk.

4 day weekend? I'm jealous! Hope you're having a good one. Drawer fronts look good, and cool to see the plane stuff too. You do have many talents and hobbies don't you! Looking forward to seeing the F engine go together. We had some wild weather up here over the past week too.

Cheers,

Andrew.

That's gonna look good. I sure like the L shape bench.

Thank you very much Gerard:thumbup:

The L shaped bench works well in the space I have, the trick is keeping the clutter at bay. Every thing has a place and every thing is in its place.

Looking great!

bet it will feel nice having that space nice and neat!

Sub thanks for dropping by.

It is a great feeling to finally getting some semblance of order in the shed for sure.

…and he flies too! I guess I'm just lazy. I always admire those that live life instead of watching life go by. The people of GJ have been such a motivator and I'm glad I found my way here. Cheers.

I wouldn't say your lazy shorty:thumbup:

I will let you in on a bit of me pre GJ days, I struggled a lot with motivation and anxiety was an issue and things were getting me down generally. It sort of crept up on me over a number of years and motivation came in small doses let me tell you.
With the help of my GP and Mrs 1/2 Cup I took some time off work to get off the merry go round so to speak and that was about the time I discovered the GJ and I have never looked back, nor do I want to.
I agree the GJ and its members provide just so much motivation it is incredible and if I can give back just a little of that every day I will.

Thanks again.

akdiesel The DRAW fronts are 18 gauge ( 1.25 mm ) brushed finished stainless steel and they were done on a modern brake that has all the whistles and bells so I get a nice consistent outcome.

Most of my power tools are Makita and the battery powered tools are Dewalt.
The combo works really well and you could say its a match made in tool heaven.

Looking forward to see this work bench finished :)

Thank you very much vegar I will keep you posted as I go along.

Andrew, I could do a four day weekend every week its amazing what you can get done.
Lets put it this way you could say my interests and hobbies are Diversified to say the least only thing is there is not enough hours in the day.
We are still waiting on the harmonic balancer and bronze valve guides for the F engine to come from the UK and that's about all we need at this point to get a start.
My eldest had his last run for the year at Winton on Sunday and was down into the 1 min 50 sec with the borrowed close ratio box which was a great effort considering the conditions and year old stickie tyres.

I went for a drive yesterday and man there are some trees down after that storm we had on Sunday. I have pretty much clean up around here now.

Have a great day guys.

Well we in NSW don't get a day off for either the grand final or the Melbourne Cup, so don't complain too much! Having said which, I am lucky enough to work a 9 day fortnight most of the time, so I can't really complain either. :)

Strouty, I wasn't real attentive in our English classes and I guess that shows, spell check is my friend, well some times.

Would be better if the Monday holiday was made official and that stupid day off holiday for the Football (AFL) Grand final was abolished. Having said that 1/2, having 4 days off work and given nothing will happen come 3 pm today what is new in that shed down under ?

HOTFR8, still working on the Under Bench draws, no drawers. ( spell check ) Cases all done ( boy do I like my Senco nail gun ) makes the job so easy. I am sanding all nine of them down now and will give them a quick spray up this afternoon.

My eldest has been here cleaning bits up for the MG F engine as well.

Mrs 1/2 Cup has been showing the Rodents at Sunbury for the last two days so I have had to fend for myself.;)

I am with you on the public holiday issue as well.

Yes, that goes for me too. You are always an inspiration to me on this board

Great thread you have !!

Many thanks Sunbimmer I have to say that I am deeply humbled by every ones kind comments, it is truly appreciated.

Andrew, A nine day fortnight would be fantastic our enterprise agreement did away with them here 20 years ago.

Thanks again, appreciated.

Have a good one:thumbup::thumbup:

Drawer cases done a dusted, a quick rattle can job and I can start the tedious process of fitting them to the slides and getting them all lined up straight and level.

The construction is as basic as it gets, no dowels, no Kreg jigs, no finger joints just glue and nail.

I used prime coated pine 90 X 19 mm for the frame and 6mm MDF for the base.

Have a great day every one.

So plenty of Shed time and Shelby walks over the last few days.

I am with you on the public holiday issue as well.

Try working for yourself with some of the holidays we get. The AFL one was just stupid as most will tell you in private industry and retail trade. Most like your self 1/2 have taken the Monday before Cup Day so why not just make it official.

Still I have more done more today about Sheddwellers than I have done for a long time but then that is all the boring stuff like cleaning rain water tank inlet filters etc. I will still stop at 3 and watch on TV. But it is a great time when you get a slow day like Cup day to catch up. But only us Victorians have Melb Cup as a Holiday.

QST.
(Quality Shed Time) for sure and Shelby has been under my feet as well.

You don't have to be in retail or private industry to work out that the Grand final public holiday was just a bit off the mark.:headscrat

I am not real fussed about the Melbourne Cup or horse racing for that matter. I put a few $ in our work sweep but that's it. You will not miss a replay on tv as they will show it about 79 times by the time I go to bed and then it is in every newspaper the next day.

Apart from the QST I have been in the garden a bit today as well.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

The drawers are gonna be awesome!

The drawers look great. Nuff said.

The boxes turned out great!:thumbup::thumbup:

Good to see the drawers coming together. Looking great so far!

Thanks very much everyone:thumbup:

I did end up getting the first coat of paint on the drawers last night and had to resist the urge to start fitting them to the slides whilst they were not quite dry. I tend to get a little ahead of myself at times.:eyecrazy:

Another coat of paint after 48 hours and I should be able to fit them up and install the stainless fronts this weekend.

Have a great day everyone.

Good work 1/2 cup. They will make all the difference to how you work in the shop now I will speculate.

Soooo much better having everything in the right place. I'd say I've already saved several hours so far not having to look for things since getting my workshop to where it is at present - and that is valuable time for me at least when you are trying to get a bit done in a hurry on the weekend.

Cheers Grumblebum.

Thanks you Grumblebum:thumbup:

The drawers under the bench have been something I have wanted to do for a while now and like yours will provide some valuable extra storage space I so desperately need in the shed. When they are installed it will then allow me to progress to UGLY AREA of the shed No.2:thumbup:

Thanks drives I can't wait to be able to tick another project off the list and yes the extra time off has been fairly productive.

The drawers for the most part will be used to declutter my pegboard with just the most basic everyday tools to remain there. I am trying to achieve a minimalist look, yet functional, in amongst an eclectic mix of stuff that makes up my shop .

Have a great day every one out there.

1/2 Cup,
Good job on the drawers!

Thank you very much jon04

I have used Rustoleum 2x on the drawers for the first time, I have heard a lot about their products on the GJ and when I saw it at our big box store recently I decided to give it a go, so far so good but it is a 48 hour recoat.

Thanks again for dropping by.

Was it the blue or green big box store 1/2 cup?

I guess like you I've seen all the GJ guys use it too :)

Cheere GB.

Grumblebum, The big green store has Rustoleum products. Generally I use Dulux rattle cans mostly as they don't clog the nozzle or block up to a point that you can use them like some of the cheaper brands tend to do.

looking good!

Thank you very much chilly_moose, I will try and get the drawers finished this week end, as always pics to follow.

Have a great day everyone..

As you said ,the drawers are just simple construction, but I still have questions: are the bottoms just glued and nailed to the bottom of the cases, and if so, do you think they will be strong enough to support the contents without pulling loose. Reason for asking; we have been unable to find any kind of cabinet to hold our huge collection of DVDs. Wife has suggested I make a "simple" chest of drawers to put them in to replace the 8 shallow plastic boxes she has them sorted into now. Each box has about 80-90 DVDs sorted by genre, alphabetised, then placed on edge top to bottom. Awesome job as usual. Patiently waiting( not) for more on the MG engine build, haha.

Ric, thank you for dropping by.

I am confident that the bottom will not pullout, to that end they will only be lightly loaded anyway. I did use a real good glue and there is about 20 inch nails in each base.
With your drawers I would recommend that you go to a 3/4 inch what we call out here "particle board" with a melamine type laminex top. Mrs 1/2 Cup has a set of drawers for DVDs and they are a little weighty so the thicker the better, nail, screw and glue.

I have nearly finished the Under Bench drawers now ( pics to follow in an hour or so )

My eldest is putting the pressure on to get a move on with the MG F engine build but I am finishing things off and getting the shop in order first before I start.

Have a great day..

Ahhh the wait is over, looks great. You no doubt will be out there till late tonight filling the draws whilst savouring a couple of cold ones

Just on the paint I've mainly used the White Knight rust guard hammertone rattle cans - but they are a little pricey, but no nozzle issues. I'll look over the RO colour range as I'm trying to work out a colour scheme for the vises to suit my shop.

Cheers GB.

Couple of nails, some glue and a sander in the right hands....... You do make it look easy Steve, and it is  when you know what you are doing.

Those look just lovely.

Well done. Again.

1/2, so you bent up metal faces for the wood drawers, correct? These match your welding/work table rather nicely :). I really need to sort a collapsible work table ... your work is definitely providing some inspiration.

Thank you Grumblebum and you are spot on I did spend a number of hours cleaning, moving stuff around and having a real good sort out last night over a coldy.

I have changed colour schemes a number of times and no doubt there will be another soon, my peg boards are next.

Thank you Rian:thumbup:
I don't always get it right the first time I can tell you and there is always things that I can do better or could have done differently but I am really pleased how the drawers have come up.:)

Looks great 1/2 Cup! What did you use for liners? I use 1/4" thick yoga mats... The last ones I did are blue too...

Thank you Coop  The liners are a thinner version of a yoga mat and I picked them up at one of our auto stores yesterday. There are a few different colours available but I think the blue does it.

Dennis, you are correct, timber drawers with brushed stainless faces. My idea is to have things match now and have a little continuity in the workshop.
And thanks again.

The extra storage they have provided has been incredible and has markedly changes he look and feel of the shed for sure. Even Mrs 1/2 Cup ( the storage queen) is impressed.

getting the drawers out of the way now lets me tackle other areas in need.
