HOTFR8 thanks for the update.

It has been a few years since I have been to the Ballarat Swap, it is huge by any standard.
We have flown down there a couple of times, being close to the airport it is real handy and you don't have to walk miles just to get in the gate.

Have a great day every one.

I was there too, 9.5 hrs on Friday, 33000 steps, 25 km walking. Then back on Sat morning for another few hours before driving back to Melbourne to fly home.

I don't think the dust was any worse than it has been in the past at the old site. We were very happy with the weather though, even with a bit of breeze.

Cheers
Steve

Yes I picked up a few bits to go towards the Indian project. However while traversing the bottom section (away from the motorcycle area) in the afternoon a new stall holder arrived in the motorcycle area and had a load of stuff that would have been good for me but by the time I found him he was nearly cleaned out :lol_hitti

Panther: I'm thinking of a saying I heard while watching Crocodile Dundee movies years ago when you mention how many steps on your pedometer.

Did you go on a WALKABOUT. GEEESH that's a lot of steps. I walked 15,000 steps one day in Las Vegas a few months ago and I thought i'd walked across the city.

sorry to hear you didn't find things so buy, but if you would've you might not be here today carrying all that stuff all those steps. :D

1/2: JUST AN FYI. i'm learning a lot of SLANG from yours and Lyndon's and even Bob's threads so don't be surprised if I use one here and hope I use it correctly. :D

Did you see that nice Indian bike fully restored? I think it had a sidecar fitted to it.

Lyndon, I think we need to repost a link to the Castle.

Russel Quoits adventures

And not forgetting Bush Tucker man

Or the Bush Mechanics.

Now they are examples that truly reflect who we are.:lol_hitti

It is now past the yard arm so I am with you.

The Castle - definitely

And probably The Dish. Yep, they'll know what that's about but won't know of our part in the whole shebang. And that we nearly stuffed in up.... "Just point the dish at the moon and we'll find 'em"

Russel Coight - um, do you think they'd get it? :dunno:

Bush Tucker Man - strewth - they wont understand him at all :lol_hitti :lol_hitti

Maybe we can find some old Leyland Bros for them. That'll have them both baffled, and lost. :lol2: :headshake

my advice...

ozzy man reviews! always good for a laugh!

They are all candidates for sure, I still always get a laugh and have the Castle and the adventures of Russell Quoit on DVD.

Our DIL is South African and they were the first things we gave her as her formal Introduction to the family, so she now has an appreciation of what the Pool room means to a bloke.

To top that off at our first Christmas family get together the traditional Lamingtons were brought out with coffee ( and I must say they are to die for ) and she was offered one and promptly said " No thank you, I don't really like Lamingtons" and you have never seen some 40 raucous people go into deadly silence in an instant.:shocking:
Fortunately we have been able to rehabilitate her in to loving Lamingtons and is now a proud and an accepted member of our family.:lol_hitti

I have pictures to prove it and that goes into the family album for sure.:lol_hitti

Have a good one guys:thumbup:

Stunned silence would be the only response. Lamingtons are not an acquired taste, the human genome has a Lamington in it. You might have responded that she ate a "Bad Lamington" but that's an oxymoron like "Jumbo Shrimp." My mother-in-law visited us and ate Lamingtons every day of the three weeks she stayed with us. I think they contributed to her passing for I believe Lamington withdrawal is a slow, silent killer.

1/2: so now i'm learning not only how to set up and work in a great shop/garage, but learning Aussie and finding new TV shows to watch.

I googled Ranger and found a YouTube show because I don't think we get his show here on any of our stations. i'm sure my kids can probably teach me how to get it though. for now i'll watch on youtube and see if I can keep up.

just curious if you and Lyndon speak the same language or do you have as much trouble understanding his posts and quotes too. :dunno:

I learned some of my Aussie Down Under language from golfers who lived their, but mostly from TV shows like Crocodile Hunter who's name was also Steve, Dundee movies, and a few other various places. love learning and maybe one day i'll make a post with all Aussie words that you and the others can understand.

it's all in good fun here on GJ and thanks for sharing some of the culture while you are showing off your amazing talent.

cheers to you and all your MATES too.

I'm fairly certain that Steve,/Simon/Mark/Ken/Rod/Andrew and all of the other local visitors to this thread understand each other perfectly......

And yes as suggested Panther Steve - you really should look up "Kenny". To quote a line from that - "there's a stink down here that's going to outlast religion" :lol_hitti :lol_hitti :lol_hitti

Bob, as you know Lamingtons are part of our staple diet downunder and you could consider our family as aficionados of the Gourmet Lamington as the secret recipe has been passed down from generation to generation.

I am having withdrawal symptoms as I type this:drool:

If we are going to talk about movies I am told we should add 'Oddball' to that list as it also stars Shane Jacobson and it is very Australian.

:lol_hitti We are happy to provide a translation service at any time and all of the above are compulsory viewing, I might add there will be a questionnaire at the end.

Just to make sure you have your head around it.:lol_hitti

1/2: so you might remember i'm on a weight loss or as SUB says i'm talking about weight loss and working on my HEALTH. here i see you mention something you eat that you like so i click on the link.

now i know you like good beer. YES??

the link takes me to a desert/cake picture that i'm guessing you like. yes???

so why aren't you 300 pounds and on our weight loss thread? is it because you never sit down or even sleep? :dunno::dunno:

also just one other thing to mention that i learned by just clicking on the front page of the link was you AUSSIES call business hours TRADING HOURS which was another new term to me.

i'll be ready for the test maybe in a few years, but for now i'll just keep reading, enjoying and trying to figure out WTF you all are saying.

1/2: BTW if you do weigh 300 pounds no offense intended because I've been telling SUB that muscles and brains weigh more.

My guess is you are about 180 -190 and mrs. 1/2 is taking good care of you when you aren't doing so yourself.

Cheers again (ice tea on my end)

drives I weigh in at around 180 and sure I could lose a couple of pounds, we have a good balanced diet and it is not always Vanilla Slices, Lamingtons and Beer I can assure you.

I do enjoy a nice Red wine or a Scotch and dry as well but everything in moderation.

I am pretty active at home, where as at work ( like now 6.30 am) I am for the most part stuck behind a computer although the last three days I have been out of office doing electrical safety inspections that have involved a lot of walking.

For the most part I would easily crack the 10,000 steps per day on the weekends.

Have a great day.

With any of you guys, I'm not sure if it "strewth" Now please tell me how I used it wrong. I'm assuming "it's the truth" all in one word. Much like "owsyerserenity":dunno:

1/2: i'm sure you don't have time to sit around often and grab seconds or thirds of those meals that seem to keep calling my name in the past. I seemed to keep my weight pretty steady before I was married, but 5 kid's plates to clean and a wife that is a great cook added on the pounds pretty quick. when I hit 240 and 250 was what the scale read with my clothes on shortly after I almost had a heart attack moving some tools I said ENOUGH and a few months later started that Weight Loss thread that keeps me going and so far has helped a few other members too. I weighed 222 this morning so still a ways to go, but i'm trying to kick the SWEET tooth like DLC is trying to quit smoking.

So you mentioned you were a pilot. do you own your own plane? have you ever went up in glider? I just watched a HOW"S IT MADE where they made a glider and it looks like you can buy them with engines in them now to get up and going or for back up.

hope you are having a great day.

Using Strewth in a sentence.

"Strewth, already Beer o'clock and 1/2 forgot to bring the Lamingtons."

Or a good joke here is to swap a stubby of Beer with another but change the contents to water and when they have a drink and spit it out you get "Strewth who was the idiot that did that." :lol_hitti

Many a place can stake a claim to that Vanilla Slice Trophy. I can admit I have eaten in that shop and a few others that have won the trophy as well.

The difference between Business hours and Trading hours is some place like that bakery open on weekends.

HOTFR8 From my Vanilla Slice sampling across the State, there is not a lot between them as they all taste great.

And thanks for clearing that up.

Strewth, as HOTFR8 pointed out is an expression of surprise or dismay and can be used by itself or in a sentence.

Have a good one.

My Dad did own a Cessna 150 and you are right you can get gliders with an engine. I have never been up in one and that is something on the bucket list, however I have converted a perfectly serviceable aircraft into a glider by cutting the power and then looking for a landing site so I do have a feel as to what it would be like.

Now we know why you and I have never been asked to judge them .

OK, back to the Shed.

Speaking of the Shed Downunder that reminds me of something I have not shared as yet.

Chapter one of a long saga

Mrs 1/2 Cup ( in her infinite wisdom ) has been actively looking at selling here and moving into a home that better suits our needs in terms of a little more space and elbow room for the both of us.

Naturally that would mean a bigger shed/s.

I made the point to her that any new place would have to be substantially better than where we are currently and that meant it had to include all the features like solar, three phase power, refrigerated air conditioning, bigger shed/workshop, town water, natural gas etc etc.

Conditionally I also reminded her that:

1. I was not going to do another project here which included the Storage Solution until she got this bee out of her bonnet.:shocking:

2. I did not want to start all over again, period! as I am getting a little long in the tooth to do so.:eyecrazy:

Mrs 1/2 Cups search went far and wide and finally the realisation struck home to achieve all of the above I would have to work until I was in my nineties and double my salary to achieve what she was aiming for.:shocking:

To be continued after I have had another beer or two.

Strewth, more lamination and vanilla slice talk. I've had a craving for a lamination for 2 days now since you fellas brought it up. Better solve that for tomorrow's morning tea.

1/2, would your brother let you stick a container or 2 out at his place? Might be able to shuffle some deep storage that way if you and Mrs 1/2 cup end up staying put...

Immediate downside is you will always then need something that you have stored there.

I agree it would take some effort to rebuild another location up to where you need it that met your standard if one was to relocate.

Almost but not quite POETS day.

Cheers GB :beer2:

1/2, I'm with you on that one. I haven't even finished what I have to do where I am now. I wouldn't want to start over somewhere else.

I'm still grappling with strewth.:headscrat I'm a little slow. :confused:Explained well, but it would make more sense if it were an abbreviation of words like "it's truth" Not my place to say what's right with it, or wrong with it. I'm not an Aussie and am not supposed to get it.

Oh and while you guys say beer o'clock, we actually say beer thirty. Maybe because it is half past beer o'clock, and needs to be addressed before it gets much later. Have a great day and have a cold one for me when it gets to beer o'clock.

Okay, I just went online to Wikipedia and it makes more sense to me now. Kind of like adding "******" to a sentence. Just emphasis to a word or term.???? I guess. Damn, I hate being so dense sometimes. I used to pride myself in how quick I caught onto things. Now I'm happy "if" I catch onto things.:wtf:

1/2: i doubt anybody could build a place as nice as you, but there must be good builders down under if you found a nice piece of land?

with all those dogs the downside i see is they don't have huge amount of places to run and ****. is there any vacant land next to you to purchase? i bet not because if there was i'm guessing you would have bought it already.

i'm looking forward to a new place to have all my STUFF in one place, but our little rambler with a decent water view is almost perfect size now that the 5 kids have all moved on. my wife just mentioned the other day that we should buy the place across the street where the widow is getting up in age, but i hate the idea of paying for a house to just bulldoze it to get a lot that is still too small.

DLC & All: i'm also guessing those here with 9am to 5pm jobs took maybe 30 minutes to get home hence the Beer thirty starting at 5:30. I've heard it both ways and of course the dependable if you are drinking at 8am was saying that it's 5:00 someplace on earth isn't it.

cheers
