Steve

I hate to say this, but I caved in today and took up Foxtel on their 1 month free trial...... Don't shoot me, but the chance to watch Bathurst on Foxtel for free swayed me.........

Apologies, but the free offer was too good. :willy_nil :eyecrazy:

1/2 cup, your new edger looks good. I've never used one of that type, but I have an edger attachment dedicated on my original line trimmer that has worked well and gives nice lines.

Thanks for the shed show link - I was wondering what that commentary was about with coolabah there, I'll check out an episode later on.

Are you going to add castors to the WW bench also ?

Cheers GB.

PS> I've run out of scotch :(

Have you not read this topic in full? He has his Coffee with 1/2 a Cup of Milk.

Oh I so enjoyed milking that for all it was worth back at the time. :lol_hitti

Guilty as charged, I guess. I really thought I had read the thread instead of jumping in. So many threads, so little time. I have read several, but others (if they are a bit long, like Mr. Long) there has just not been time. I hope to get to that in my old age. Thanks for filling me in, at least 1/2 way.:eyecrazy:

Andy, the name 1/2 Cup goes way back to when I was working with an electrical switchboard company and every one had a nick name, some of which were not so flattering. Anyway to cut a long story short I like my coffee strong and not so hot that it burns your innards out as you drink it and being off a dairy farm I love my milk.
So my coffee is half milk and that's where it originated from.

Nothing sinister.:lol_hitti

I trust this explains it.

Thanks guys. I don't drink coffee (afraid of the energy caffeine might give me) but if you've been around cows you know that newborns will sometimes try to nurse between their mom's front legs. I always tell them "go to the udder end".

I've got a really nice 5 acre plot for you, public wildlife conservation property on three sides, and my land (unoccupied) on the fourth side. This will be fun!:3gears: Hallett Motor Racing Circuit is only eight miles away :rocker:

Thanks for wasting a bunch of my time 1/2 Cup  I stopped by to check in and see whats new in your shed and I found a link to "The Shed Show" and I couldn't stop watching it, I love seeing ordinary people and their garages and collections. Someone should take this idea and film this in the states, not just the fancy high end garages by just ordinary everyday garages (Oops I mean sheds) it would be really cool to see this show done on some of The Garage Journal members places. Again thanks for wasting my time, as always a pleasure, keep posting

Interesting take on the edger. Ours uses the traditional weed whacked but with a front end like that. I think the wheel burrow handles would give better control. Beats the old days of using a hatchet on hands and knees.

Hate to say this but the wood vise needs to be mount a 1/2" to the left. :lol_hitti

GB, the Atom Edger's are fantastic mind you a Weed Wacker has its place as well in those spots that the Atom wont reach. I have all brick, paver and concrete to work with so the Atom fits the bill nicely. Not a great picture but it gives you an idea what I have to edge.

Check out the Shed Show, its locally produced here.

I am not sure whether to add castors to this bench or not as I rarely move it.:headscrat
The bench is used for every thing from wood work, computer desk, welding to engine assembly.

I will have to duck out to First Choice or Dan Murphies my self to day. I still have a nice Scotch that Andrew gave me for Fathers Day but I will save that for a special occasion..

That edger looks like a great score.

HOTFR8 thank you:thumbup: I love my Atom...

Andy, now you know the story behind the 1/2 Cup and some milked it:lol_hitti

The five acres sound just so tempting as I ticks all my boxes, I am hoping Mrs 1/2 Cup doesn't see this post..;)

Oh, and, by the way, your thread moves so fast it is hard for me to keep up:lol_hitti

Maybe I'm just slow...

Andy, your not slow by any means as I have trouble keeping up with it myself..

shorty, these edger's are great, check out the web site to see just how easy they are to use.

PS the wood vise is dead centre, the picture doesn't tell the whole story from that angle..

Mrs 1/2 Cup has been at it again, she brought a dead lock for the West Wing front door just when I thought I had finished it.

She had painted the door during the week so this morning I tackled the new dead lock install ( top lock assembly ) and I couldn't resist the temptation:

Clocking the Phillips Head screws..:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Holy cow! I can't believe it, I thought I was the only one who done that with the screws! By the way tell Mrs 1/2 cup the door looks great

BF You are certainly not alone on that score.

After my poor performance with the screws on the hinges I thought clocking the screws on the lock assemblies would help me retain my man card.

Mrs 1/2 Cup has certainly done well in the painting dept. and duly noted.

I definitely like Phillips clocked to the X position. But I'm left handed, too.

Nice job on the deadbolt, doesn't look like Mrs. 1/2 Cup had to do any touchup.

I haven't logged in to the GJ since Friday and the "clocking of the screws" is back. First off 1/2 cup, NICE JOB. Now this past weekend I had to remove and reinstall a couple of outlet covers and damn you 1/2 cup, I clocked the screws. I am doomed. Is this going to lead to me clocking every screw in my house and shop? I wish I'd never read this. By the way, the West Wing looks too nice to rent out.

Andy, stop it. "Go to the udder end".:lol_hitti

1/2: the CLOCKING THE SCREWS is hilarious. so i didn't know anybody else did it either and i'm clueless what GOOD FORM is, but if i have slotted screws i usually put them horizontal. vertical just didn't look right or is that the way the PROS do it?

as far as CLOCKING PHILLIPS head screws i can't say that i've really been concerned about that, but you can bet it's in my head now so i'll be clocking them like this + from now on.

funny you mentioned that your Record vise is dead center on your cool looking bench. any reason why you didn't put it to one side or the other?

I might have FSD (flat surface disease), but when i set up spaces like in my shop/garage and house i like things to look LEVEL, SYMETRICAL, AND IN ORDER so talking about measuring exact distances from walls and such is just how i roll. good to know i have some company.

drives :lol_hitti there I lots of us out there let me tell you and it is contagious and should come with a health and safety warning when it comes to Clocking Screws.;)

I have yet another confession to make.........................

I went against all conventional wisdom in regard to Clocking Slotted Screws and resisted all temptation when I built my Retro Industrial Bench. Not that it is a great picture but NONE OF THE SCREWS ARE CLOCKED...:scared:

Now that I have that off my chest I feel a sense of relief..

I regard to the Record Wood Vise being centre, it is some thing that I really didn't put a lot of thought into. You are right it should have been up the right hand end, still in all it is petty functional where it is..

I am with you on the Flat Surface Disease ( FSD ) and my recommended therapy for that
is visiting other garages on the GJ, it cured me four years ago when I joined...

Now back to work, have a great day and thank for dropping by..

1/2: you left me hanging. which way would flat head screws be CLOCKED if i was holding down light covers? I'm glad you are doing all this confessing to breaking screws and not clocking when you should be and i hope the family is around to support you when you are going through this rough patch. are they or do you just have the rodents and Shelby to lean on? :D

I have never clocked screws. Only exception were the wing bolts on some valve covers. Having been enlightened by the Garage Journal I gave it a try. I put some new Decora switches in the garage because they are slightly easier to turn on and off with an elbow or stump but mainly because I needed a self-adjusting timer for the lights on the front of the garage. When I installed the new switch plate I tried to clock the screws. I thought they were straight until I looked again tonight. Several of them were slightly off vertical so I grabbed a screwdriver and by the time I returned from the toolbox on the other side of the garage I came to the realization I am ****-eyed and it's never going to be right. Rather than return the screwdriver to the drawer, I turned one of the screws just a little more Clock-Eyed and I felt relieved. Now I happily notice the un-clocked screws everywhere in my life and feel just fine.

Looks good, but the screw above "Side" needs a slight anti clockwise tweak.... unless it's the camera? :dunno: :willy_nil

Also, what did you use to make those labels?

I'm looking for just the same style (black writing on clear) label printer ATM.

(Sorry for the hijack Steve).

Lyndon, the screw above "Side" is the one I un-clocked. I think the two to the right of that one are also a hair off. That's what upset me.

I have two Brother label makers. The first one stopped working but I didn't throw it out. As soon as the second arrived the first one started working again.
Label%20Maker_zpsancbxkhn.jpg

The larger one on the left is the newer one (refurbished) and it accepts 3/4-inch (18mm) tape as well as the 1/2-inch (14mm) tape the smaller unit uses. The larger one also has more fonts and styles (beyond Bold, Italic and Underline). I would recommend the larger unit. You'll find these machines are like razors. The machine (handle) is a one-time buy but the thermal print tape (blades) are where you'll spend the money. Especially if you get hooked and NEED silver tape with gold lettering.

The larger label maker is a Brother PTouch model PT2030 that is no longer available. I suspect the older one is also no longer available. But all is not lost. There are two equivalent models available from Brother in Australia. Officeworks sells them online from what I understand.

PT-D210 for $89 ($49.73 at OW) that uses the 14mm tape:

rmalkow, I am trying to promote the patina on the table. The table is tough and two blokes struggle to lift it.

drives, to be honest I do not have any preference with slotted screws so long as they are all the same and it flows with the item that is being fixed. For example ( refer to Bobs comment below ) I would recommend that they be clocked vertically.

Trust me I do break screws, I don't always clock screws, break drill bits and round off heads like many but I have a great support network and that includes Shelby, she understands...

What I have found is the replacement cassettes are expensive out here. I use a Dymo unit.
