Slim,:willy_nil:lol::lol_hitti:lol_hitti Once again you guys have started my day off with a big grin on my face. Andy and Slim, you guys only get 1/2 the credit becauase Hotfr8 gets 1 and1/2 with his post. So I guess now that I think about it, you guys only get 1/4 of the credit because there is only 1 whole to give and Hotfr8 gets 3/4 because he got 1 and 1/2.:rocker:

Have a most wonderful Sunday Steve. Happy 60th. (pssstt...I've still got another year to go before I'm there):D

Dan,
1/2 the fun around here is seeing others enjoying the 1/2 witted humour. Thanks shorty for pointing "1/2 wit" out... I think I should say thanks ... Wait! ... or is that 1/2 wit comment directed partly at me!!!???? :dunno: I guess its better than being a dim wit!

As for me I've got just over 4 years to the big SIX OH! OMG! :scared:

Steve:

As I forgot to say it earlier because I'd gone off 1/2-cocked on 1/2 jokes ...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

If I lived nearby I would just 1/2 to bring you a 1/2-baked Birthday Cake. Just because!:lol::lol:

Cheers!

Late last week I was able to finally capture some images of our Drone Training flight a few months back.

View media item 64554
This is an image from the drones video footage above our communications tower at work..

Have a great day...

When I first saw this pic, I thought this was a "just about to jump" bungee jump adventure you took for your 60th Bday. Then I read that it was a drone pic. Obviously, I only saw 1/2 the story.

And if I do say so, that's not a 1/2 bad pic!

Cheers!

Happy B-Day 1/2cup. It's sounds like a great family party going on at your place. Welcome to the 60's. And don't worry about that milestone. They say 60 is the new 40 so you're young again!!!

With only 4 years to go until the big 60 let me pass on this advice - you have nothing to fear.;)
( says 1/2 Cup at sixty years and one day old )

A 1/2 baked cake - now there's a thought.:lol_hitti I can just picture myself eating it too..

Slim, no bungee jumping for this black duck. I don't like heights.:shocking:

The image is only 1/2 as good as I would have liked as I just did a capture from the drones video recording. ;)

rmalkow, it was a fantastic weekend all round.

I have heard that the sixties is the new forties, to be honest I feel the same now as when I was forty..

That is a great photo. Have you taken any video yet.
I guess also you are back to work to recover from a busy and I guess full on weekend with the family. Sounds like your birthday was a great day.

HOTFR8 I do have a few videos, but they are huge files. This morning I have been processing the data from the fixed wing drone we trialed Friday, these are all pictures mind you but the resolution is just awesome. 248 images at 6mb each.
I will try and do a capture of the 3D model we are doing and post it up in due course.

Full on was right and a fantastic weekend..

Thank you one and all for the visit and have a great day.

1/2: I'm very happy to have you join the 60's club with me and a few of the rest of us. NOT SO BAD IS IT?? sounds like you had a fun weekend and i'm sure it won't be the last fun birthday on your schedule. how did the kids like the WEST WING?

so how high is that tower? a couple hundred feet maybe? sure hanging from a pole that high isn't my bag either, but i don't HAVE A PILOT'S LICENSE. i'm still laughing pretty good over "I'm not fond of heights" comment you mentioned in your AUSSIE TONGUE. :D

glad to hear you are toughing it out at the old COAL MINES today on your Monday after your 60th. i bet you were just a shade over 1/2 there today?

cheers

Happy 60th 1/2! I can only aspire to be 1/2 as productive as you once I hit the 60 mark too.

Drones are all the rage in the professional video world these days. DJI just dropped the Mavic drone which has a 20 minute flight time, 4K resolution gimballed camera, collision avoidance sensors...but folds in seconds to fit in a cargo pants pocket. The controller plugs into an iPhone to relay live camera footage..crazy how fast the tech is moving here!

It would be great to hear a bit more about your drone work flow, inspection effectiveness, etc.

To be honest I don't feel a day older, just too much on the go to even think about being 60 the slightest.

The kids are absolutely loving their stay in the West Wing what with 24/7 room service from Mrs 1/2 Cup as you do:willy_nil

Briana's Dad even stayed last night.. and it was great to catch up with him as well over a beer or two..

Scared of heights, you bet ya, even for a pilot as it brings home just how insignificant we are in the scheme of things. I never look down when I fly trust me. The image was from about 400 ft.

I was about 3/4 throttle today and concentrated on getting my head around the drone mapping software...:willy_nil

Fist time user....:eyecrazy:

I have really just dipped my toe in the water in regards drones, mapping and data processing. The technology is just amazing and I can see a great future for it.

HOTFR8,

The soft ware is all new to me and it takes time to get your head around all the Survey talk and acronyms.

This is my initial processing results today from the couple of miles of channel we did on Friday, I have left my work computer still completing the last stage of the process over night as I wasn't waiting around for it to finish because I went the full monty on this one..

It shows the ray cloud images from our flight plan. The resolution is about 1 pixel per just under 1/2 inch ( 1 cm / 10 mm )

Naturally you can zoom in and out for clarity. ( not on the GJ though )

Next is to do the 3D modelling

Again than you one and all, have a good one..

Tomorrow I am out supervising a new stand alone Solar Lighting installation that our Recreation and Land type people have purchased for our boat ramps at many of our water storages, nice to be out of the office for a change...

1/2: i know you are in recovery mode from a great Birthday week and spending a lot of time at work reading about Drones and contracts, but your thread was on PAGE #5 and it needed a bump.

not sure how to advise you on how to find a great tenant, because at times i bet they are scarce in your area too. if your co worker isn't going to need it then hopefully one of your friends has a nice person, couple or family to recommend cause your rental would rate in the top 1% of ones you find around here with all the great work both you and Mrs. 1/2 did.

good luck

any more DRONE PICS?

sorry no 1/2 witted or 1/2 cocked or 1/2 funny jokes coming from me today. :D

As usual it has been fairly busy all round, the kids have just returned to Gosford after a whirlwind visit. We enjoyed dinner all together at Andrew and Amy's home the night before they left.

Young Jayden spent some time playing with Cameron's Matchbox cars that Mrs 1/2 Cup had kept for all those years which was awesome to see.

Just a fantastic few days let me tell you..

Now we are on the count down for the arrival of Grandson #3 with Amy due any time..

The West Wing worked well and the kids were able to have their own space.

Tenants are easy to come by but it is getting the right ones that will treat it like a home and not a house, we are nearly at that point of letting the place now. It has been a fair journey but enjoyable none the less..;)

I have been out and about a fair bit this week with work and haven't had any time to do much more with the Drone images processing sadly.

With the days getting longer here I have been in the garden a bit more after work, its a nice time of the year right now..

Thank you again for your visit, appreciated...

1/2, I've spent the past few days catching up 2 months and 30 pages... Congrats on the grandkid, happy birthday, and commiserations for the k series dramas! How much valve lift does that cam have?! Definitely make sure to check spring bind and retainer/seal clearances, but I'm sure you have it in hand.

I know it was a couple of months back, but I'll put in my recommendation for 'Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance' too. I very thoroughly enjoyed it, and I don't read that many books nowadays.

My brother is running his MGF in Targa High Country in a couple of weeks, might have to send him to you for a hot engine afterwards!

I haven't had a chance to read the book, been to busy lately but I will get there.

Pretty timely actually the MGF head has arrived home tonight all done and dusted.

The head stripped.

All the additional machining done.

All cleaned, reassembled, clearances checked and ready to install..

Also I have installed the under bench drawers to the bench and waiting for the stainless draw fronts to arrive so that little project is moving along as well.

All the best for your brother in the Targa, its a great event. I am happy to discuss all things Rover K Series it has been a steep learning curve for me.

1/2: i'm not certain this is THE GOOD STUFF, but some friends of ours just came back from your area and gave my bride a bottle of this for us to drink. from the sounds of it i'm thinking i might have to stop drinking ICE TEA and have some. any thoughts on this since i hear it's not exported? also what do you mix with rum since i bet a coke wouldn't be the best choice? i used to drink Bacardi 151 when i was younger and that was a little step tastier than MOONSHINE which is like GASOLINE if i recall correctly.

CHEERS

in case the wrapping doesn't give you a clue to what's in the bottle i'll take the wrapping off and post another picture. :dunno:

Cool, looks like a healthy cam! Interesting that the lift isn't that huge compared to the sbc and sbf cams I've been looking at recently, and big but not extreme duration, yet a very high rev range quoted. Those heads must really flow well.

Yeh, I'm jealous! He's running the Time Speed Distance competition, which allows him to compete (aiming for a specified time/average speed over the stage) without having to run full roll protection etc. I'm going to have to look seriously at running one of my vehicles in the next year or two, it's been a wish for a long time.

Not sure what you have, but coke is a popular choice for mixing with rum, if you're not one to drink it neat (and/or depending on quality)!

MH: i'm guessing NEAT is straight up and probably not even on ice? i just remembered i do like MOJITOS (sp?) so that is maybe my option.

i'll wait to hear if anybody knows what kind of rum this is first and if i shouldn't just drink it straight to get the full effect.

1/2: i forgot to mention i also like the engine bling and maybe the new drawers installed on your wood bench with the liners in them even better.

Andrew, I am quietly confident that the cams will fit the bill and return the results we need. The valve selection increases the flow by 30 odd % so they claim but the dyno will be the proof in the pudding so to speak.

We are now able to map the ECU which will be great for the initial set up to get the ball rolling.

http://www.emeraldm3d.com/k6-ecu-info-and-specification

The Targa should be a great outing.

We will see what drives comes up with. I am intrigued:headscrat

1/2: i never acquired the love for the taste of Scotch. i did try more than a few and some were said to have been very expensive and it just didn't do it for me.

so you know how i like to help and not leave anybody hanging after they ask a question so i opened the package and found this. i also used my GOOGLEFU and found the website and here's a link for those of you that might want to partake in some Rum tasting. http://hoochery.com.au/our-story

i'm guessing the label i posted on the wrapped bottle was from the hotel where our friends stayed and i'm guessing it was probably a pretty nice place too.

I have never tried it but I am guessing that you try the Rum straight in the first instance, then on ice maybe.

Rum mixes well with just about every thing, enjoy..

All, Its a bit like groundhog day with the Rover K Series build.:eyecrazy:

Saturday, with the lawns done and dusted Andrew dropped of a new head gasket and a new set of engine stretch bolts and it was no time like the present for some Quality Shed Time.

The V8 Supercars race at the Gold Coast is being televised this week end so the first cab of the rank was to replace my old TV in the Shed Downunder with our 10 year old 40" LCD from the family room which still works great. ( in the back ground )
If you recall Mrs 1/2 Cup purchased a new LED for the West Wing for the kids visit last week and that has ended up back in our family room.

We managed to get the head install completed in the afternoon so now its on to the cam timing which on these engines can be a bit tricky to get right.

Looking forward to the same again today..:3gears:

Groundhog day! :lol_hitti Great analogy

Been a long time getting that head back on, congratulations!:rocker:

Just don't give the valve timing a second thought. I'll bet it will tell you if you should get it wrong. :eyecrazy:

I got all of Bob's parts in today so now I have no excuse!

Andy, ;)

There has been no real hurry to get it back on, only got it back three days ago so that's not too bad even for this black duck.:rocker:

Valve timing on the K Series, if you get it wrong, ends in tears let me tell you...:shocking:

I am sure Bob will be looking forward for you attention, all the best with him..

Cheers
