If you even considered buying a mint Ford GTHO or Holden Monaro you would need a climate controlled building just to keep it and the insurance well that is another consideration. At least that was a nice one to see being driven.

HOTFR8, a little out of my budget to even consider one as much as I would like one.

Andrew has a 91 Holden VN SS 5000 one of 390 odd built. I have encouraged him to bring it up to speed while parts are still available.

http://www.motoring.com.au/used-car-advice-holden-vn-vp-commodore-v8-ss-7435/

The car just needs a little detail work but for the most part is all original.

Cheers.

With any thing valuable like that the quality of the place (Shed - Garage) you keep it needs to be good. Spent some of today chasing Redbacks out of what I call Garage 2.

Andrews shed is not to bad in that regard, he treats it with kid gloves.

The Red Backs are out in force now, been pest spraying a bit here too.

Amazing Falcons, guys! And a hearty AMEN! on while parts are still available. It is amazing how fast they become obsolete and then disappear. Vacuum advance on a 1954 Chevy was oddball and it was only about 1975 I found they were no longer available. And I could not even find one on eBay!

I was somewhat taken aback by what I read "Spent some of today chasing Rednecks out of what I call Garage 2":lol_hitti:lol_hitti

Didn't know you guys had to chase us out of your garages.:willy_nil:willy_nil But it would be understandable.:eyecrazy::eyecrazy:

Then I re-read the post...

1/2: like Andy says we don't know what a REDBACK is and it seems Andy has his own version. :D

I was thinking spider or cockroach or maybe snakes so i GOOGLED since you guys are catching up on your Z's and found this little guy. sort of looks like Black Widows which we have a few of.

in case you only have a few of them might i suggest buying some little cardboard traps that have sticky stuff inside to stop the spiders DEAD in their tracks litterly. since our daughter got bit by a spider or something and her leg swelled up pretty good many years ago my wife bought several of these little traps and has them all over our house. they always seem to have a couple inside them, but maybe less now that we had a new front door without any gaps installed. i'll take pictures of the little ones we buy if you might be interested. another good way to trap these guys is to put duct tape face up and you wouldn't believe how well it works. speaking of which i need to put some more duct tape in my garage and hope my garage cat doesn't step on them.

picture of a REDBACK for those of you that also didn't have a clue.

ANDY: i was looking for a few more storage and ORGANIZING ideas and found this picture that might be one of your neighbors. :D

The sad thing is the Redbacks here are eating the small skinks.

I burnt the ones I found today but next time I will have to spray them. I think the weather we have had has been good for them to breed.

HOTFR8 I wouldn't be game enough to burn them in my shed..:scared:

Andy its the small things like trim and bump strips that he should get now, the devil will be in the detail for sure.

Red necks..:lol_hitti

A from a red back or redneck would be very similar.. highly venomous.

https://www.australiawidefirstaid.com.au/redback-spider-bite/

Did your daughter recover from the bite OK?

We do have those sticky things out here but my preference is to use surface spray in the shed.

HOTFR8, a flame thrower would be fun but I have a few too many combustibles around the shed.:lol_hitti

wasn't that a line from Rambo2

LOL

The trick is with a Redback to catch them and twist them into there own web on the end of a stick. You then take the stick with the Redbacks ******* in the web well away from the shed and then set the flame thrower going.

Being an Ex Firey I know well and truly not to burn them inside the shed as it is more fun outside. I did a post in Sheddwellers about getting rid of Redbacks.

All,

Situation : Our schools have a program called Kick Start where year 12 students do work placement for 2 or three months..

Our team has to look after two of the six students.

Issue : what activities does on give budding engineers actively engaged.:headscrat

Solution: Hand them over to our Graduate Engineer to provide some in depth training on the technologies we use in the Elect/ Mech space.;)

First hands on exercise following all our workplace inductions was lo and behold...................

Three axis plasma cutting with the course materials and objectives all provided by yours truly...;)

Needless to say they all passed the assessment criteria today..

WOW. Quick of the mark with the Cummins logo. I think it looks better than the Ford versions that you tried the first time.

HOTFR8, the Cummins logo took all of 5 minutes copied a JPEG to a memory stick, dumped that into the Plasma PC sorted the X&Y axis and hit the go button..

The Ford script took a bit of doing in regards to finding something " plasma friendly "so to speak. Just try a Google search to find one, not easy but we got there..

Cheers

I killed 181 Black Widow spiders over a two and 1/2 year period before I installed an ultra sonic chirper that we got at Home Cheapo for $60. It finally died about the time I broke my ankle which is about 5yrs. working steady. It was put in the shop/barn to chase mice away and it works well for that also. Bobby

Sorry reference post 5209 should have quoted

drives, you are 100% spot on there. The healing process does take quite a lot longer as you get older for sure. Mrs ½ Cup is certainly improving on a daily basis now. I will be interesting to see what the MRI shows up.:headscrat

I guess there is a bit of a message in all of this, when you look at Bobby’s injury as well and that is ( to quote our manual handling training at work ) to “ work with in your circle of safety” and that is applicable to all ages..

I do get out to the airport and Aero Club occasionally and have not flown for about 5 years ( drone excluded ) but it certainly wets the appetite to get back in the air. I spoke at length with the Instructors yesterday on this very subject.
There has been some significant changes in regards to flight crew licencing, so my old ratings and endorsements need to be transitioned to fit the new Regulations and that can be a two months process which I will kick off in the not too distant future.
All I need to do is pass an Aviation Medical and then complete a Biannual Flight review which is basically an assessment with an instructor of your aviation skills which is an hours flight time.
The training you have as a student gets so ingrained it’s like riding a bike and something you never forget. I would be a little rusty at first but feel reasonably confident that I would manage it ok.;)

Well the work TO DO LIST is pretty ho hum this week to be honest.

I have been seconded at short notice by our sister organisation The CONNECTIONS PROJECT to provide technical input from both an Electrical and Mechanical prospective.

This will take me off line for a month or so from my regular duties, so this week I will be trying to get my head around a 480 page Request for Tender document that went to market in October which is part of the Reset Delivery Plan that aims to modernise Irrigation infrastructure.

Information on the project can be found here:

http://www.connectionsproject.com.au/

So there is lots of reading to be done.

I have had to cancelled my Auto Cad Electrical training that was scheduled for three days this week which I was quite looking forward to actually.

No plasma, I am leaving that to our graduate engineer as I have given him some “ training exercises’ to do” .

I have scheduled Drone training for Thursday morning, that stays on the calendar.

We are getting oh so close with the tenant evaluation for the West Wing, I must say the Property Manager has done a spot on job so far and she does not take any prisoners let me tell you..

Bobby, me to and have had that fascination for as long as I can remember. The Tiger Moth is a DH 82A the DH 84 is a Dragon Rapide. The DeHaviland Tiger Moths just ooze character and really personify the pre war era and were used largely as a training aircraft during WW2 out here.
There is always a few on the market out here.

http://www.aviationadvertiser.com.au/new_search.php?do_search=Search&catid_search=138

http://hars.org.au/2009/05/de-havilland-dh-82-tiger-moth-vh-dhv/

Unreal, I can relate to having a bug like that and wold dearly love to do the same.

The Tiger Moth is a real “ Pilots Aircraft “ and like a Cessna 150 a WW2 pilot once told me “ ½ Cup if you can fly these you can fly anything “ to that end flying either aircraft is a new experience every time you fly them.

Thank you for your visits and I trust your week goes well.

1/2 I have a picture of me back in 1991 sitting in the cockpit of the Tiger Moth that I flew loops, rolls and Cuban figure eights in the winter I spent down under. if I can find it and make a scanned copy I will send it along in a post. Bobby

1/2: so you were teaching HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS how to use a plasma cutter? looks like they did a great job and did you let them keep the signs or were you able to keep them. WELL DONE!

i wish i was a high school senior again (and of course know what i know now) and wouldn't that be fun at least for a few days (years).

Mrs. 1/2 still healing up and watching her 4 furry ones double in size again?

so with HotFr8's tutelage will you be firing up any spider's in their webs anytime soon?

Try to ignore the fool in the cockpit. He was daring then. Now he can't even walk without stumbling! The flight lasted close to one hour. It began I believe at a height of four thousand feet. Nose down into a spin with the mags off; an eerie kind of quiet but great. Once the pilot popped the mags and we came to life he pulled up into a figure eight. My shoulder harness went limp (no comments Andy) and then into a barrel roll starting at the center of the "eight." We flew upside down, left side down, right side down, then back to right side up! The view over Brisbane was great as was the day. Most fun I have ever had doing anything; and I have done a lot of crazy things.

What can I say! A Cummins works every time .

HOTFR8, it sure does..

No Buick??? LOL

Sean, watch this space as we have the students with us for two to three months.;)

Or Oldsmobile?

We have bring your rodents (kids) to work day. The 8-10 yrs are usually the most interested and fascinated. The early teenagers always seem to be bored. Best wishes.

Shorty, as above watch this space we have to keep the students engaged.;)

The students are in there late teens and are really great young adults that are keen to learn and take on the challenges like you wouldn’t believe.

Bobby, 181 Black Widow spiders, I don’t keep count of the Red Backs I kill.
I have seen Ultrasonic units in hardware stores out here but never tried them out. I will put that in my to do list for the hardware store visit on the weekend…

drives, I left the training with our Graduate Mechanical Engineer, I just provided the course material and the inspiration. They have all done a top job, the young ones really grasp the technology. They each did a name plaque, which they kept..
Tuning back the clock and know what you know now would be just awesome.

Mrs ½ Cup appears to be on the mend, she is moving pretty freely now, so fingers crossed.

The pups are going great guns, their eyes aren’t open as yet and they are still pretty docile, content to suckle and sleep..

I will skip the Fire Spider eradication solution around the Shed Downunder, just surface spray and brush down the webs. I am keen to see how the Ultrasonic units work now.

Bobby, just awesome.

During my pilot training we had to be able to do power off, nose down spins and be able to recover from them without losing more than a few hundred feet, similarly with a stall where the power is pull back to idle, carby heat on to prevent icing then as the aircraft washes of speed you are trying to keep the nose up till you reach the point where the airflow over the wings diminishes to a point that the aircraft will not fly, the stall warning sounds as the controls get non responsive and you feel a shudder as that laminar flow breaks up. The nose then drops and the houses below start to get bigger. :scared:
Recovery in a low wing aircraft is relatively straight forward, but with a high wing Cessna it can end up in a spiral dive very quickly. So its stick forward ( this is totally opposite to you natural response ) to get enough air flow over the wings plus a boot full of rudder in the opposite direction of the spin then gently pull the nose up to straight and level flight..

Most manoeuvres like that a pretty scary first up, but once you have done a few your confidence level builds.

The views from a light aircraft are just spectacular no matter where you are, as a pilot you don’t often get the chance to take them in, particularly in Controlled Airspace as it is around our major cities.

I have completed a barrel roll in a P51 Mustang and that was one hell of an experience so I can relate very well to you experience and thank your for sharing..

As always thank you one and all for your visit and have a great day..

1/2 will be in the same position as me soon and due to fire restrictions burning anything will be a no go. Getting a permit to burn Spiders possibly would not go over very well.

HOTFR8, you would get laughed out all the way out the door or if you phone that in it would be put down as a hoax..

They look great! And that's a 3D plasma cutter? What does that mean? Can it limit depth of cut?

Andy, they do and I am really pleased at just how well the turned out as aluminum can be a ****** to cut at the best of times.

Actually its a three axis cutter so it can move up and down as it cross travels across the material so it handles curves really well. The cut can be limited but I have not tried that as yet.

Thank you gentlemen, have a good one..

BTW - I was just wondering if you would have a DeWalt cordless drill that I could borrow (they seem to be fairly versatile)?

That's really cool Bobby, I've always wanted to go up in one of those (although I prefer my flying in a more horizontal manner :scared:).

My Dad used to often talk about a friend who had a ----Moth (I don't remember, but I think it was actually a Gypsy Moth that he spoke of) and would sometimes take him up and let him have a go at the controls.

There used to be a Tiger Moth (I think) that operated out of a strip in the infield of the old Surfers Paradise International Raceway - I swear it was actually flying backwards one day when I looked up at it (strong head-wind).

And for the Aussie car historians, if you look in the background of Bobby's first pic - there is what appears to be a Holden Overlander parked in the shed (it looks to be too high off the ground for a "normal" HQ - HZ wagon).

Something for everyone in that post Bobby.

Sorry for the hi-jack 1/2cup.

Yep I do have the odd Dewalt cordless drill kicking around( three actually), even though a few have gone east. There has been some that have claimed them as their own and some that have actually repossessed the of one.:dunno:

Mark, no problems, your welcome to chime in at any time..

Just do it, the fear factor does go away. In any case there is always a brown paper bag in the cockpit.:lol_hitti

There is just some thing about a Tiger Moth and have actually seen one almost stationary into a strong head wind, unreal.

I did notice the Holden HQ in Bobby's pic. now that brought back memories as my Dad let me drive a brand new one out of Preston Motors for the first time. ( if only, hind sight is a wonderful thing )

Thanks guys, have a great day..

A permit to burn is very hard to get in the Fire Season so any weird call like that would be passed over to the Police. For those not in the know 000 here is like 911.

I'm thinkin' (to myself you understand) - is the West Wing ever going to be finished?

I'm sure you've got prospective tenants queuing up outside waiting to get in ? ? :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

Just wondering. . . . . .

Lyndon, , I sure do.

We still have a wish list for the West Wing ( as you do ) that will get done over time.

Things like:

. Carport

. More Detailed landscaping.

. The dividing fence out the back so that I can access the shed.

. Mrs 1/2 Cup still has to paint all those fence pickets yet.;) ( she volunteered - truly )

I guess its like any home, it just never ends but we have both enjoyed the journey.

The papers and rental agreements with our new tenant were signed yesterday and occupancy starts on the 19th of Dec.

The home certainly generated a lot of enquiry in the short time it was listed which was comforting to know.

Its pretty much ready to go now..

Anyway as one chapter of the West Wing story closes a new one begins..

Thank you yet again and have a good one.

1/2: it looks like maybe i can un cross my fingers and toes now cause you have your GOOD/GREAT tenant neighbor now?

congrats on the decision and sounds like your property manager might be earning her money and we can only hope she and you both picked the right people if you had choices.

i really wasn't surprised you had so much good response cause it could be a nightly hotel as nice as you both made it.

i guess the GJ B&B will have to be in the house on the other side of you that you might purchase some day.:dunno:

cheers
