Right from the start of our journey the main aim has been to make a house a home with out blowing the budget or over capitalizing on it. To that end we have achieved that goal.

Andy, no we have to agree to disagree on that one, you guys are to the East of downunder ( well almost ) so I was just putting it in context...

We had the Property Manger do a detailed condition assessment this afternoon and handed over the keys which all went well

Never fear the Shed improvements are already on the to do list when I get rid of one certain ( make that 2 ) MGF Rover K Series projects out of the way..

Mrs 1/2 Cup knee recovery is doing well all with out any intervention
Now she has to have one of her wisdom teeth out on Monday now I know why she has been a bit grumpy of late..

drives, rule of thumb, you should never take pain killers on an empty stomach.
Mrs 1/2 Cup and her mother (ex nurse) for that matter are Google doctors so there is always a diagnosis to any ailment.

I did see that crash on TV actually, that is just one lucky escape and Steve has summed it up below.

Now that's scary I would have not liked to be in that situation..Its testimony to the safety and engineering that goes into to race cars these days.

To answer your question - no we have not met the new tenants as yet but a little independent back ground research of my own has been positive so far. With just a week left to go before occupancy its all systems go.. The keys were handed to the Property Manager yesterday..

Fingers crossed.. we have done all we can do at this point..

In the absence of my To Do List I spent the morning in the West Wing basically demobilising the home in readiness for the new tenants next week..

The afternoon was filled with in interrupted Quality Shed Time ( QTS )

With the main focus being the Rover K Series

. Completed all the new ancillary bits to the new engine, oil filter, oil pressure switch, oil pressure transducer, coolant temp switch, coolant temperature transducer, crank angle sensor, cooling system plumbing and the like.

. I also started stripping down the old engine ancillaries, brackets, wiring harness then cleaning and modifying it as required all in readiness to be used on the new engine.

. I have to say that I have never seen so many sensors and switches on a engine, just mind boggling

I am hoping that today will be a repeat of today...

I probably have more hours on the Cessna 206 and the 208 (grand caravan) than anything else.

Largest I flew was the beach 1900d. Favorite commercially the beach 200 king air.

I have most of the single engine Cessna's on my ticket and a great many pipers including the super cub. I like tail draggers. All in all I think I had some fifty types by the time I stopped flying. Including the Aussie built jabiru 400. Which is good fun to fly.

Giving the garden and lawns a miss apart from watering has been pretty productive in the Shed Downunder.

The engine is out of its frame and I have relegated Andrew to remove all the superfluous bits and pieces from here and then he has a fair bit of cleaning to do ( at his shed ) before they come back here for final assembly..

Whistling Dixie is a common one out here..

Andrew has a trailer load now to clean before it comes back here, there is no way I was letting him do it here, he is to put it nicely a tad messy when he does stuff like that and guess who has to clean up after him.........not this time..

Drives, thank you yet again..

The Rover K Series is getting nearly a full makeover and freshen up and about the only thing that will not have anything major done to it apart from a service will be the close ratio gearbox that went in earlier this year.

Here is a breakdown of what has been and some of what will be done:

Engine;

New liners, Omega pistons & Maxspeed rods.
Upgraded oil rail.
New oil pump and then modified the galleries for better flow..
Water pump and all new plumbing.
Bearings, seals & gaskets.
New lightened flywheel and clutch assembly.
New harmonic balancer.
New knife edge billet crankshaft.
Balanced all reciprocating components.
Oversized valves.
Bronze valve guides.
Mechanical lifters.
Piper camshafts.
Port and polish cylinder head.
Vernier cam timing gears & timing belt and tensioner.
Replaced all ancillary things like stretch bolts, gaskets, sensors, transducers & pressure switches.
Coat exhaust extractors.


The sub frame:

New Janspeed fully welded unit.
New engine stabilizer bushes.
New engine mounts.
Full adjustable suspension arms.
New wheel bearings.
Replace drive shafts.
New sub frame solid mounts.

Andrew is one busy lad, with young Aiden taking priority at the moment. BTW who is doing really well.

Bear in mind that this is my first Rover K Series build, so it has been a steep learning curve for me as well.

The # Gen 2 rodents are still fairly docile, just finding their legs and are growing at a rapid rate. It will be a few weeks before they are under foot and discovering the garden.

I will endeavor to get some pics of the pups up this week. We have not named them as yet as the Breeder usually likes to do this.

The West Wing is ready to go apart from detailing the lawns later this week. I basically demobilized the home on the weekend removing all our goods and chattels and replaced the drawer runners on the dishwasher last night.

The Ford Scripts were just a spur of the moment thing really as you do, I am just so pleased that I was in a position to do so..

Mat, I had a mate of mine do it, he does it full time as a business.

Sandblasting for both the front and rear verandas took an hour 1/2 ( highly recommended )

The whole job was done in under a day, it is a textured non slip finish with a couple of coats of clear applied in successive days.

To be honest I am not sure what was used and where it was sourced from.

Total cost was about $900 all up.

My Mum who passed away some 10 years ago now was a terribly proud of keeping a clean home, detail, detail plus, from cobwebs to a weed in the garden she was on to it.

She used to even polish every brass tap around our childhood home which came from her childhood upbringing and I guess that's where my OCD came from..

She set the bar very high for all of us..

Note to file: 1/2 Cup post a pic of my garden taps some day..

She couldn't leave the house with as much as a dish in the sink or dish strainer for fear that a burglar might break in and think she was a messy housekeeper. It is a great asset for one to have. I am not that CDO myself, but can not stand a mess. When oil or antifreeze is spilled on the floor of my garage, my brain will not allow me to do anything until it has been cleaned up. I so enjoy dropping by here every weeks or so to catch up on all the interesting projects, both your and those shared: This time, race engines, airplanes, sidewalk coatings, never ceases to amaze me.

Really enjoyed the airplane talk and shares. I have a problem with motion sickness in turbulent air, and because of that, I never pursued a pilot's license of even kept a logbook, even though probably have a couple of hundred hours of dual time in a large variety of aircraft and gliders. My best friend from middle school has a resume much like that of Niels': Commercial airline pilot and instructor, civilian Master Instructor, has flown 737, 747, 777, A-320, Md-80, DC-9, virtually everything from Piper up to a Pawnee and Cessnas up to a 210, Luscombe, Starduster II,various gliders both single and dual, has a seaplane rating. In the Navy he flew a T2 Buckeye and an A-4 Skyhawk and was carrier qualified. He currently owns and flies a Vans RV6-7 ( Kind of a hybrid of the two). He has truly enjoyed his avocation while earning a nice living doing something he truly loves and is excellent at. He has shared his knowledge by teaching hundreds of others the joy of flying. Old age( he's a few months younger than me and a loss of hearing) may soon force him into medical retirement from United after 19 years there. It's definitely much fun. I hope you have the time to get back into your dad's plane soon.
