HOTFR8,, It must be cold somewhere with no heating in garages..:dunno:

PS, the next three days we are looking at 100 F here, hot real hot..

Or like us just so dam hot at present. Total Fire Bans here can make work impossible some times but then who wants to run the risk.

Received...

 thanks.

HOTFR8, I quite often do not stop and think what I am writing as what is natural to us leaves other totally confused.:willy_nil

Note to File ½ Cup – Stop and think before you post.

With apologies to those in other parts of the world we Aussies on the GJ could often be speaking a different language and after all being a global forum often one rule for some thing say an electrical code could be very different in another location. Often this makes for some interesting reading. Also a great reason to prompt any newcomer to the forum to update a location to a profile so when asked they get the right members responding.

I thoroughly enjoyed your rendition of shed down under

 All done after a couple of cold ones one night and that was some time ago now.

Thank you Ken, all the kudos go to HOTFR8:thumbup:

It a tune that certainly lingers..

Cheers..

Hmmmmm new verse or new song

Best not get into music Royalties.

I would never be surprised to see a Kookaburra sitting on the Shed Down Under.

Before we put the language thing to bed, I worked for a time with a Canadian and a Scotsman. After a while the Canadian became irritated with us. (How hard is it to irritate a Canuck?) Whatever one of us said, the Canadian would have to repeat. I know he repeated exactly what I had said, but the Scotsman only understood the Canadian. Reverse also. The Scotsman would spout some gibberish then the Canadian would tell me what he said. And we got pretty quick about it. During a heated technical discussion the Canadian inserted some of his thoughts and it totally confused us as we were so used to him being only an interpreter.:lol_hitti

1/2: congrats for getting thru all those posts and you are THE MAN.

speaking of language and Scot's i couldn't help but recall Robin Williams (RIP ROBIN) golf skit he did on Broadway about 10 years ago. for those of you that don't like bad language you might not want to watch it and for those of you that do or don't like golf you might like it even if you've seen it already.

ANDY: you didn't even have to put the LOL hammers on that one. OMG i was glad i was in between sips on my apple cidar vinegar and water wake me up drink. THAT WAS FUNNY!!

Fr8: so you almost started a 3rd lawsuit with your new words? i'm still humming the SHED DOWN UNDER during the day and hopefully will be all day.

cheers all and have a great day

On a trip to Scotland in 1996 we stopped at a restaurant for supper. When the waitress came to ask us about dessert, we all chose ice cream. It took several tries to understand "would you like newts?" meant nuts on the ice cream and not...

HOTFR8, 43 C here yesterday with 40 C predicted today.

There is just so much diversity on the GJ and like you say I do read with interest whats happening electrically speaking in other countries as the can be pole apart in terms of code, equipment and installation methodologies.

Funilly enough we do have the odd Kookaburra around the neighbourhood..;)

Good one, now you have got me humming it!!!!!!!!!

Terrick, me to..

Andy, we have a great mix of nationalities working in our team, like I have said previously a female French Canadian Electrical Engineer, a female French Mechanical Engineer, an Irish Senior Mechanical Engineer and a Malaysian Manager. All great people to work with and very professional in their own right, I might add but you do have to become a good listener in interpreting the heavy accents at times and if we don’t understand what is being articulated a simple “ I don’t quite get it or a can you please repeat that “ will always work.

Yes Drives that golf thing was a work of art. We lost a Comic Genius. Sure makes you laugh about our language.

As for lawsuits lets not get 1/2 in trouble for his topic.

HOTFR8, lets not go there..:willy_nil

Bob,

I had a similar experience in New Zealand with a female sales type person only I can't repeat it on the GJ. ( adults only classification )

Have a good one..

In Jakarta our team was a Dutch manager, Indonesian partner, Malaysian Chinese EE, and Filipino CE, and designers were all Indonesian with a German client. No communication issues, you just have to listen carefully. But there is something about my accent and the Scottish accent which do not seem to mix.

Working in Sydney, on the other hand, everybody just made fun of me.

People making fun of you????? Come now. I'm sure you would have had a classic set of retorts. :willy_nil

Why is it every time I pop into this topic I feel like I am walking into a social gathering in 1/2's shed ?

Better fill the Fridge tonight 1/2 as it has been a long hot day here and a cold one will be nice.

And here, (42.3CATM) so I hope I remembered to put the wine glasses in the fridge???? :bounce: :beer2: :beer2:

Andy, I hearing you on that score.

We do have a lot of fun at work poking fun at everyone, but they give it back too, in a nice way..

HOTFR8, it does seem that way, this week end i should manage some QST.

That's after the lawns this morning before it gets too hot..

PS the fridge is well stocked..

Hiding in the air conditioning at work! :hellobye: :hellobye:

Lyndon, I did much the same and hardly moved out of the office all day..

Yeah, but they ganged up on me.

Who, us. :willy_nil

Never...

Oh, we can get upset! Haven't you ever seen a Canadian protest march?

:lol_hitti Slim, I must share that with our French Canadian Electrical Engineer she would get a chuckle out of that...

Angry! Did it turn out OK, or were there cars upset and burned and commercial buildings ransacked? Sorry, Canada: Did it turn out OK? Or were there chants and hateful looks?

Andy, I am curious to know the outcome as well.:dunno:

All,

Again, stating the obvious the week end is upon us..

It looks like another hot one here today, around the 100 F for the third day running with a cool change tomorrow forecast. I am a little over this heat to be honest, any way the house and shed are very comfortable.

So its the lawns first up while its cool and then retreat inside to the shed.

Andrew has basically gone as far as he can with the new MG F sub frame build so its is ready to marry the engine, gearbox and drive shafts together. I should see that here on Sunday hopefully.

I have a few Honey Does to catch up on and tick them off the list as well.

Plus I have to fulfill my obligation to myself ( see below.)

Corporate Policy in the Shed Downunder on my weekly To Do List from now on and that is " include at least one trivial job on that list every week" .

Not real sure what that will be at this point in time..

I trust you have a great weekend and thank you for your visit..

1/2: best of luck with Andrew's engine install and i'm crossing all my fingers and toes that everything will go as planned.

as far as TRIVIAL TO DO'S how about a walk with SHELBY since you both deserve one (or several) if it isn't too hot.

i picked up a new QUOTE OF THE DAY over on ANDY'S thread that i think you'll like even better if you read his posts today.

cheers and have a great weekend.

drives, things have slowed a bit on the engine now that young Aiden has arrived and rightly so as parenting duties are his top priority now. We will just keep chipping away at it as the degree of urgency to get it finished has now diminished somewhat.

I mounted the newly overhauled alternator during the week, this was the first time I had seen it as Andrew had removed it in his shed, while the overhaul ticked all the boxes however the pulley ( which came of the old engine ) was a modified cast iron air conditioner pulley that is a larger diameter basically because it cuts down the RPM that it does to prevent it burning out on the race engine. Apparently they are know to do so. I am not sure just how it held up on the old engine and toss a belt..
In checking the alignment I found it was out significantly, so a new aluminium version plus some other bits and pieces are on its way from the UK now.

Walking Shelby is a non negotiable, being hot last night we spent some time playing with the hose and her ball, she really loves that:thumbup:

I did note that quotable quote from Andy...

Time for some QST...

You too have a great week end..

I was out at a Rod Club meeting last night so the first cold one I had I was thinking of you after such a hot day yesterday. I even left the cooler running in the works until late last night until late as it was so hot.

Have you had trouble with some of your quotes ? I have fixed a couple lately so they are easier to follow.

Very well put!

Interesting how many English speakers there are around the world. Since English is the official maritime language and air traffic control language it gives us that speak some kind of dialect of English an advantage. As a Commonwealth country, the English spoken in Nigeria is one of the most difficult for me, whereas our neighbors from India are very understandable to me.

Is there English spoken in Scotland?

A little story: I was in Tehran during the Shah's reign doing a project for NIGC (National Iranian Gas Corporation). The Iranians were selling gas to Vieux's guys but the Russians would only pay with machinery, Iran could get Russian equipment but no cash. NIGC was having a meeting with TSMT (a Russian gas compressor company IIRC) and NIGC wanted me to attend. I was hesitant when the Dutch born NIGC chief engineer assured me the meeting would be in English. It turns out I was the only real English speaker there. It was very interesting to me that they held all their meetings in English, it was apparently the only common language their interpreters had.

I remember around 30 years ago everyone was saying that the international language would never be English - big push was for Esperanto ( so common nowadays /joke that I had to think hard to even remember what it was called ? )

Mr. 1/2 Cup!

I know it's still a bit early, but I thought you might want to start planning for the birthday's (ahem .... 1/2 birthdays) coming up in your life.

Just when you thought your TO DO list was getting manageable.
On second thought ... maybe this could be one of the "Trivial" To Do items or 1/2 Trivial items!

Half a nice day!

Considering it is just out the road I may go for a look. I am not sure how that swap keeps going as it is so small. The big Swap coming up at Ballarat is better. Will service the pushbike ready for a day out so I get round the Ballarat Swap.

HOTFR8, They were chatting about it on Cartalk, Ballarat is one huge swap.

I haven't been for a few years now, we used to fly in being next to the airport.

You certainly need a bike to get around it..

If you have not been for a few years you would notice a lot of changes considering last year it moved to the new site and is no longer the L shape.
The old site has been used for roads and industrial sites.

HOTFR8, I noticed that from the aerial shots in the link..

All, another scorcher her today at 102 f.

I have two air conditioners in the Shed Downunder, a small split system in the Office and Model A section which is fully lined and insulated and the workshop has an old and when I say old it would be 35 years old at least. Its a 2 hp reverse cycle boxed unit that was given to me because it had a leak in the evaporator, that I was able to repair, vac out and recharge and install in the work shop some 25 years ago.

I had both running today as you do and it was quite comfortable to potter around in the shed earlier, however the old unit finally died and was blowing hot air this afternoon so it looks like I have another project on my hands. I am thinking of replacing it with a new split system at this point in time..

Any way the small unit makes the workshop area at least a little bit tolerable..

Thank you one and all for you visit and have a good one..

Looking forward to cooler conditions tomorrow..

Interesting quote from Wikipedia on Esperanto:

Esperanto is seen by many of its speakers as an alternative or addition to the growing use of English throughout the world, offering a language that is easier to learn than English.

The growing use of English, to the disdain of many.

Cool change here now with a little rain so after such a hot day perhaps tomorrow will be more tolerable.

HOTFR8, its much more pleasant here today a full 24 C cooler, no rain and just a perfect temperature to work in the shed..

1/2: are the pink ribbons reminders that you need to do something before removing them or did you just want to add a little color to the picture. OMG that engine is too damn good looking to put in a car (ALMOST).

best of luck putting it all together and i'm still crossing my fingers and toes for you.

we had 40's today too, but about 60 degrees cooler than you so blow some heat up our way if you like and i'm sure we'd all appreciate some.

hope you enjoyed your weekend.

cheers
