how did you decide the layout of tools and equipment I seem to keep going around in circles with layout.

I have had a look at your build just now and I am impressed..

At your stage of the build my first consideration would be light and power.

Mine is a very small shop and has evolved over time, rightly or wrongly so try not to go around in circles in regards to lay out at the end of the day it is what works for your situation.

Some things to consider are:

Storage, lots of it..
Sort what you need and don't, then pass it on. I used to spend hours looking for things.
Access to the go to tools, my preference is that the things you don't use frequently, store them appropriately. I have the basics on my pegboard, easily accessed and easy to see what is not there.
Flexibility, allow room to move in terms of storage and access.

Bare in mind my set up is constantly changing but it works for me.

Before you settle on things check out some of the great setups on the GJ as there are some fantastic layouts that you can glean a lot from..

Everything should have a place and be in its place, finish your days work and put it back where it belongs and that means not where you last used it.

1/2: i had to copy and paste this ORGANIZING METHOD YOU POSTED A DAY OR TWO AGO and i'm going to try to commit it to memory cause it's very very good thinking about how to ORGANIZE your shop. My wife used to think i was swearing when i said i was going to ORGANIZE and now she smiles so i'm making a little progress, but i've still got FSD (flat surface disease) pretty bad until i start finding spots for everything and fill up some of these drawers and bins i have now.

Flat Surface Disease ( FSD ) is curable now a days and there is help out there..

Little improvements can make a huge difference to the shop environment.

The week end is here at last and for once I am glad to have a break from work, three solid days doing Procurement Plans, Conflict of Interest declarations, pricing schedules, Tender Evaluations and dealing with our Procurement and Finance teams does my head in, any way enough said the weekend is here..

Mrs 1/2 Cup is in Autumn Cleaning Mode in our kitchen, its amazing how much stuff one accumulates over many years, so its a fresh start

Note to file: Lots of stuff for a garage sale..


The concrete warranty on the Rover K Series build ends this week end as Andrew is moving the build to his shop for the installation proper. It will be a sad moment for this back duck after nurturing the build for so long..

Anyway I should look on the bright side, more room in the Shed Downunder..

The West Wing Update.. the project scope--- one simple carport extension in front of the West Wing Storage Annex A for our tenants convenience as any good landlord would.

Sounds like a weekend fishing (Metaphor) is required. Watch the Grand Prix. Surely the surveyor will work it out as it is not like you are building the Opera House.

i would have thought you might do another garage alongside your existing West Wing's garage or at least a carport to provide cover for your Gramp's old wagon so you'd have more room to work on the MODEL A. of course you know what's best and you do have a model tenant so do as you and Mrs. 1/2 agree on cause you've done great so far.

i'm sorry to hear work wasn't like a vacation this week and hopefully the DRONE will get fixed and be back in your hands soon.

Rian, Seriously give a garage sale some thought as it is a great way to pass on stuff. Don't expect to make millions though.
There can be a fair bit of work in preparation for one but the rewards are there, that being all that extra space you gain.

We probably have one or one of our family has one every three or four years and have enough stuff to do another one soon..

It is time that the engine went to its rightful home, I still have a few minor jobs to tidy up when the engine is in the car. Looking forward to turning the key for the first time...

We had always planned to put up a carport in the West Wing for the tenants, only this time I intend to contract it out to a local firm that does some great work as I just do not have the time.

I had square eyes leaving work last night after reading through and evaluating 12 tender submissions that took three reams of paper printed on both sides mind you. Then on Monday we have our first consensus meeting with our Procurement type people to complete the three assessments and apply the scoring criteria to each, now that should be fun ( not )

It looks like we are getting a new Drone shortly, different make and model, so I am looking forward to that..

Rian, that is the $64,000 question, funnily enough my Dad asked the same thing this afternoon..

There is plenty of projects that come to mind so I can take my pick really .

. The carport Storage Solution.

. Construct a brick wall for the carport which is part of the bigger picture to be able to close off the front of the home to the shed. The footings are done and I have plenty of matching bricks.

. Some QST on the Model A.

. Build my Model B Ford engine for the Model A

. The Industrial Dining Table build.

. The en suite make over.

. Rebuild the old Rover K Series race engine.

. Build the brand new Rover K Series race engine..

. Rebuild one only Cup Car MGF engine due here from the UK in a couple of months.

. A little bit of restoration work on some of our antiques.

. Make over the Shed Downunder.

. Other too numerous to mention.

Such as :

. Oak Wine barrel make over.

. Bi-fold doors for the lounge.

. Home Main Switch board make over over.


. Take things easy for a bit.

Its been a fairly full on 12 months here and I will prioritising let me tell you..

drives, the lift is real handy let me tell you. We have a few hydraulic ones mounted on ute tray at my work as well.

I am not real great at multi tasking, that said I can have a number of projects on the go at once, but focusing on the task at hand..

I certainly are looking to getting out of the office this week for a change Where I am going the snakes should not be too much of an issue, its all about situational awareness.

Yep, I have never done that before come to think of it but never fear I will be there to do a prestart inspection at Andrews shed then overseeing its first start with fingers crossed like an expectant father.

I have given him a Must Do list to be sure..

Then I intend to be there when it goes for the Dyno Tune, it has been a journey plus some and this will just join the dots so to speak in terms of my understanding of the Engine Management System.

Empty shed there is plenty of stuff that will fill that void..

All, I forgot to add the Mrs 1/2 Cup To Do list, apart from the above apparently there is some planter boxes for a vegi garden to be included amongst the roses in the front garden.

We did some tomato plants a couple of years ago in between the roses and they worked well.

Any way another one to the list..

All, just a quick update and an apology for not keeping the memento going in the Shed Downunder in the last little while.

We have our first Property Managers inspection in the West Wing tomorrow, we were invited to attend but declined as I am confident as to where things are at, our tenants are great and are keeping the place as their own.

Work has been fairly full on, go out for a day or two and there is two days worth of catch up any way that's life.

No news on the new Drone replacement as yet so I am waiting patiently on the outcome.

The good news is I have Friday and Monday off as annual leave ( rodent duty ) as Mrs 1/2 Cup and my MIL are flying to Coffs Harbour for her sisters 2nd wedding so it will be a great time to catch up with her 8 brothers and sisters.

The bad news is my 84 year old Dad had an accident hitting at low speed a parked car whilst driving home last night, he is ok and his car an older Camry has some serious front end geometry issues and the car he hit is sort of missing a drivers side rear wheel assembly as its hanging by the hand brake cable .

More to come but the good thing every one is ok and now we have a lot to ponder as a family..

A lot to ponder sounds like - do they take away his license. Oh that will be a sad thing to deal with. My Dad still has his license but has not driven since 2014 after he had surgery so I do not have that issue to deal with but every so often he says he will drive again although I think he knows it is not a good idea. What ever happens 1/2 you have a lot to work through and I wish you well with what ever you do.
