1/2 & Andrew: nice work on the engine and sounds pretty sweet from my chair. how about more pictures (or videos) of the engine as it sits in the car or frame so we can get more of an idea how the rest of it looks?

WOW!!

228: so is that a current list of your projects and cars? looks like I might have visit your thread and check them out when i get a minute. funny i'm subscribed to about 4,000 threads and i still don't get to all the ones that have some cool stuff in them. i'll just keep trying.

drives, thank you..

the engine sounds even sweeter standing next to it, the video does not do it justice..:3gears:

I will let Andrew take up on the progress from here, that is when he starts his own thread..;)
That said there will be more to come..

I tip my hat to you 4000 subscribed threads, awesome and well done..

we came home on the sunday early afternoon as the wifey had some things she had to do ,still a fair bit of traffic but no major holdups
cheers

steve, Sunday travel was a wise move, Monday was bedlam.

Thank you one and all, have a good one..

Red line is at 7300rpm, however after the rebuilding I can take it to 9000 but due to the expense I'll set it at 8000.
I have enough parts to build 3 more engines but I'd get shot lol.

As for starting my own thread.... nope ... I'll just pop in and visit on this one!

Thanks for the support and comments on the build !

Geeze, I go away for Easter, no internet, come home no internet for another 2 days and everything is happening!!

Welcome to the thread Andrew great to hear from you.

Congratulations Andrew and Steve, all that time and effort to rebuild this engine and it all works as it should-perfectly!

Good news about the building permit, so I'm guessing we are going to see a how to build a "carport" added to this thread, cant wait to see the details.

1/2: anytime you want to take more pictures and/or videos of that cool car of Andrew's i'm sure I (we) won't complain.

did you maybe start a thread on the engine by itself and possibly get some help from some of those members in the UK that might have similar cars and engines that won't be racing against Andrew?

again well done cause i think you almost had to make your own manual for this build.:thumbup:

Andrew: as has been mentioned you might want to spend a few minutes to set up a few threads on your car in case your dad doesn't have all the answers maybe another member that doesn't see this thread can help you.

you'd be surprised to know who are members here. i'd be willing to bet a bit that some of the parts made or designed were by members that might not post often, but they read a lot.

good luck and hope it out performs what you hoped it would.

Thanks Andrew, that sounds awesome. I don't know if this has already been asked, but what is red line on that engine?

I do believe we have had a few lurkers following and you are right I does justify a thread on its own.

Personally I have gained a lot from the build and have had some great support in all areas..

Thank you so much one and all, have a great week end.

Note to file, we have a public holiday here on Tuesday to commemorate ANZAC day to remember the fallen in war. I am taking my Dad, who is an ex serviceman to the dawn service.

On April 25, across Australia, New Zealand and as a nation, we pause to reflect and give thanks for the sacrifices made by all those who served in war.

At the going down of the sun,

and in the morning,

We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

1/2, it seems that you've slowed down a bit here lately???? Is this super mod thing taking up too much of your time? I'm just giving you a poke.:D

Weekend is upon us again, any QST planned? I'll bet the daylight (lack of) is starting to be very noticeable there. We've gained 4 1/2 hours here so that must be about what you blokes have lost. At least as you slip into the short on daylight months you don't have to worry about all that white stuff falling from the sky like we do over here.

Have a great weekend.

Mgf cup cars were a special build of 32 purpose built race cars in the U.K. In the mid 90's. I have acquired a genuine engine which dad will have to rebuild, I also have heads (new in box) rare bits of gear and cams, rods, Pistons the list goes on.

Fun times ahead!

Courtesy of the mg car club- my Mgf is build to replicate the Mgf cup cars, the following gives some insight to the history.

Prior to the MG Trophy Championship as we know it today, Rover introduced the Dunlop Rover Turbo Cup in 1994 as a major international race series with their 220 Turbo Coupe. Many international tracks were on the calendar including Spa and Zandvoort. This championship supported the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and was seen by over 100,000 people plus a world wide TV audience of many millions. This championship ran until 1997.

The true forerunner to the Trophy Championship came in 1998 as the MGF Cup Championship. Thirty special full race Cup cars were built in 1997 for this new championship. The announcement, made at the London Motor Show at Earls Court in 1997, was for a one make race series organised by the Rover group and coordinated by the British Racing Drivers Club. It consisted of 12 rounds at high profile circuits throughout the UK, including Silverstone and Brands Hatch. The series attracted £100,000 of prize money and the overall winner also received a brand new MGF (forerunner of the LE 500) at the end of the year.

These cars were nothing like any other MGF’s previously built and all the bodies were seam welded and had no interior apart from a roll cage and drivers seat. A 190bhp dry sump engine was fitted and the cars retained the hydragas suspension system modified to racing spec. The cost for a fully prepared race car was £24,000+vat and most were purchased by MG Rover dealerships. At the first race on the 4th April 1998 at Silverstone, no less than 28 of the 30 cars made the starting grid. Rover continued their sponsorship of the MGF Cup for 3 years ending with the 2000 season. Not many of the original Cup cars remain and only one now still races in the current championship. This car, now upgraded to TF spec is currently owned by Andrew Radford and is probably the most successful Cup car ever. It has a fantastic history which is now fully documented.

Andrew: thanks for posting that about the history and YOUR CAR. it's only getting better now with the latest upgrades.

i know you are a busy guy and not surprising after getting to know your dad, but again spending a bit of time having your own threads might surprise you how much you'll like doing so and meeting guys (and gals) from all over the world.

1/2: any QST for the weekend or are you maybe finally kicking up your feet and just having a few friends stop by to visit?

cheers

Have a great weekend.

Dan, I do have to admit I have been a bit preoccupied with work and just life in general of late that has put the hand brake on things some what.

This week end will be a four day one, I am taking Monday off as annual leave, then there is a public holiday here to commemorate ANZAC Day on Tuesday so it nice to be able to step off the merry go round for just a little while.

Our days are getting shorter and daylight savings finished a few weeks ago I am actually going to work in the dark at 6.00 am now.:headscrat

The days and nights are certainly getting cooler but still quite pleasant this time of the year as we are well and truly into Autumn now. As for that white stuff it stays well up into the mountains, just the way I like it..

As for this weekend and QST,I do have a few small jobs to tackle and a welding job for Andrew's father in law tomorrow.
Today will be for the most part spent in the garden as we had an 1 1/4 of rain yesterday and our roses got knocked about and are need of a little dead heading. I also have to cut back our lemon tree that grows like you wouldn't believe.
Plus there looks like a few honey does on the horizon..:dunno:

Thank you for dropping by, I will keep you posted and have a good one..

Now to sort out Andrew's New thread..

Got my vote. Now if I can get him to adopt me, he'd be Super Dad of the Decade!:rocker:

I also vote for a race between Andrew and the fiesty Falcon from further down under. What say ye Mr. Lyndon? :rocker:

Steve, to your dad from another vet, I salute you sir.

Shorty thank you as well I am just a tad humbled..

An MG F verses a Feisty Falcon now that would be an interesting match up..:3gears:

PS Lyndon lives above us in the scheme of all things Downunder.

Dad is one very proud vet although he will not be marching this year due him having a knee injury from way back, the Returned Soldiers League ( RSL) offer a bus to follow the march to the Dawn Service plus he gets priority seating, then a trip back to the RSL for a cooked breakfast.

All, I have been gifted with a set of brake calipers from one certain MG F this morning to do a little remedial work, no rest for the wicked..

Have a great day and thank you for dropping by..

What ! Remedial work. What is going on here ? This does not read like the usual for you.

HOTFR8, yep remedial work for sure.

Andrew brought a new set of Cup Car brake rotors for the MG F, simple you might say.

A new set of callipers are around $ 2 k, but he manage to get a good set of original Cup Car four spots which just need kits, bleed valves and cross over tubes installed.

Just another job..

yep you certainly have earned more than enough points for DAD OF THE YEAR while working on that engine, but more Andrew probably loves that he could call you and talk to you about what to buy or not buy and other stuff.

hope you had a great weekend chilling in your yard. sorry to hear it's getting darker sooner and cooler, but as your weather turns that direction we are finally coming out of the dark and rain and hopefully getting some heat and sunshine.

cheers

I should have edited your post to read 'just another remedial job'.
Any plans for your Monday holiday ? Some Q.S.T. or Q.F.T. ?

HOTFR8, ;)

I do have to catch up with Dad to work the logistics for the ANZAC Day Dawn Service tomorrow.

Mrs 1/2 Cup is in autumn cleanup mode at the moment:willy_nil so my destiny for today is in the hands of others..:dunno:

I spent yesterday afternoon fabricating a stand to support an antique wrought iron gate that will sit behind a large planter for Andrew's In laws..

They were extremely happy with the outcome  ( sorry too slack to take pictures ) but it was nice to break out the MIG for a change..

Then out to dinner with Andrew, Amy, Aiden and Amy's folks for a nice meal and catch up..

Good call Bobby. Count my vote as the same as yours.

Thanks for the explanation Steve. Enjoy your free time.

Dan, thank you, appreciated..

Now I'm really blushing..

Congrats on the council approval and the inaugural engine start-up 1/2cup.

Mark, thank you.

I do feel a sense of relief now that those mile stones are behind me..

Buckley's chance in me passing Australia geography class. :dunno:

Shorty, trust me I believe you would do well, we can always mentor you through the process..;) Mr Buckley did it then so can you..

My vote is cast:thumbup::thumbup:

Andrew's gifts can keep a dad 1/2 busy!

Andy, what more can I say, other than thank you..

1/2 busy is spot on. ;)

Hey Shorty, funny you should use the phrase "Buckley's chance" have you ever read the true story where it came from?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Buckley_(convict)

gazza, I found that shorty's use of the phrase interesting as well.

That almost constitutes a Pass on our Citizenship Test:thumbup::thumbup:

Was this story ever made into a movie? It has all the makings of an awesome adventure/survival movie.
Great story to read, thanks for the link.

rmalkow, I can not recall the story ever being made into a movie???

The story would be very familiar to older Australians for sure as it was taught in History way back when as for the younger generations, probably not.:willy_nil

Thanks guys have a great day..

There was a movie made in 2010, but haven't seen it, nor was I aware of it until it popped up in Google. Was looking for a movie that I recall seeing in primary school 40 or so years ago about Buckley, but couldn't find anything.

This post slipped by me, as I've been a bit busy......

I'm about 700 kilometres (420 miles) north east of Steve/Andrew. So it'd be a bit of a drive.

But so long as only a few corners were involved I'd be up for it. :3gears: :3gears:

I reckon I'd have it on the straight, but it would eat me in the corners..... And with that massive 5.4 litre lump up front you really have to give the brakes some advance warning of a corner.....

Mind you, my Falcon has done 325,000 kms (201,000 miles) so she's a little weary these days. Maybe with the supercharged XJR I'd stand a better chance.....? :dunno: :willy_nil

Catching up slowly.

Lyndon, it is a bit of a hike between your place and mine.

With standard brakes the Falcon would take a bit of stopping.

325000km you have done well, has there been anything major that has need doing in that time??

The XJR and an MG F would be an interesting mix on the track..:dunno:

All, just back from the Dawn ANZAC Day service with Dad and Andrew, poured rain right the way through but that didn't dampen the huge crowds spirits. Dad was a little reluctant to move from the car given the rain but with a little encouragement we made our way to the memorial keeping him dry and as always he does really enjoy the day..

Thank you one and all, have a top day..

The brakes on the Falcon were upgraded very early in my ownership (I've had her since new) to Police spec slotted rotors, and I am now only on my 2nd set. They hold up well. If you go back in my thread aways you'll find where I had all the problems with a bad grind, and subsequent pads change (3 times). But it actually pulls up quite well now (just puts out a lot of brake dust :eyecrazy:).

And she has been very reliable. Only let me down once when the alternator went without advance notice. :willy_nil :shocking: Other than that it's all original down to the exhaust etc. I never drive it only short distances, and always ensure it gets up to temp properly. It's also serviced regularly.

Glad you got to have some QFT with your Dad. I'm at work....... trying to get everything ready for a customer audit on Thursday. Then I'm having Friday off.

Drives, just pondering on that thought I think I should get naming rights at the very least on the MG F:rocker:

Andrew is a master of his own destiny when it comes to buying MG F bits, they just keep on turning up at the Shed Downunder:headscrat
All I have to do is bolt it together:headscrat

I spent a fair bit of time this weekend on the 1/2 Cup do' s for a change but it was nice to get those jobs out of the way.

Lyndon, now that you mention it I do recall you having issues with your brakes.
Most of the issues you have had are pretty normal and almost consumable items now a days.
One of my work cars was a new BA Falcon wagon that was pretty savage on brake rotors from new..:eyecrazy:

Dad enjoyed the service as much as Andrew and myself..

All the best with your audit and enjoy having a long week end..

Thank you one and all, have a good one..

Ok, 672km one way is a long drive. How about a race to Adelong Crossing Cafe (184 Hume Hwy), the half way point. Loser buys lunch and pays for all speeding tickets.
Need a car cam so we can see video of the action!!!
