Steve, it's hard to be patient when you are used to recovering in a day or a week. View improvements with a longer range perspective to keep from feeling frustrated. Savor the little improvements and share them with us because we admire you and consider you a dear friend we've never met. Life, even with a few limitations, is good! :rocker:

Well you learn something every day and today I found out you and I share the same middle name........'Impatient'.

Like you I do not like to just sit round and I like to be active but in your case I can see you have to be patient. As I stated before QST will come in time.

HOTFR8, going through the cancer treatment has really taught me some valuable lessons in life and has given a whole new perspective on things that previously I would have taken for granted QST included..

Great update. Thanks. Hopefully Santa brings you a full day of QST.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Shorty, I am certainly looking forward to it and thank you for your visit.

Steve as stated keep up the good work doing what you have to and not overdoing. Think of it as the most important rebuild you will ever undertake. The bed and table are your benches for now. We are all looking forward to the finished product's posting once you have completed your work.

Bobby, thank you.
You are spot on.
I am very quickly learning to listen to what my body is telling me and just "Go With the Flow" so to speak.
I really like your analogy as this will most definitely be one of the biggest rebuilds that I will ever under take..

1/2 Cup,
It's great to hear from you!
Keep up the fight.
You are in my prayers.

jon04, thank you:thumbup:
With the support I have the fight is far from over...

I have been checking in regularly on your thread and I can't believe how excited I got just to see you posting again

BF, thank you.
I will do my best to keep things updated..

I'm excited too, to see your posts!

Bobby's right, this is an important rebuild. Glad you've got good doctors.

My son in law had much more severe radiation damage during his bout with throat cancer and yet over ten years has continued to regain some taste. Patience may be in order recognizing continued improvement will be in your future even after you feel you have plateaued at a new normal.

Chemo brain is sure no myth. My wife struggled with that for years and has finally settled out of it. Glad you are seeing progress, that is so important in your attitude to be seeing improvement.

Keep up the good work and keep us posted. Each of us think our prayers are helping fix you so we need updates.:3gears:

One would think one could pilot a drone with little physical effort...

Andy, thank you.

with out doubt my GP, Oncologist, Radiation Oncologist and all the support staff with the Hospitals and Cancer Council have been absolutely fantastic in making this journey for me/us as easy as it can be, I tip my hat to them all for going above and beyond.

I can relate totally to what your son in law and wife (and yourself for that matter in a supporting role) have been through.
I do believe that this journey has opened my eyes some what in terms of learning to embrace patience, I thought I had a reasonable capacity to do just that, however this has taken things to a whole new level.

I will endeavour to keep posting as much as possible.

Actually I am looking forward to getting back to work as I believe that some Drone therapy could be included on my return to work plan.

Good news to our ears. Keep doing what you are told...please!!
Terrick, thank you.

Never fear I do not have a lot of option but to do as I am told as there are a number of vested interests that would kick my **** if I did not toe the line..;)

Thumbs up all around, glad to hear you are doing better. Keep up with the resting and recovery!

Strouty, thank you.
Rest it is for sure. Day by day I am feeling that little bit better.

1/2: first of all thanks for making the effort to post up your status, progress and telling us about your support group which we sort of figured was as solid as a rock. as you can see we are all pulling for you to GET HEALTHY so you can play with your tools as we all get older.

also thanks for the kudos on my little mailbox stand that is getting bigger as we speak and i think my bride is getting anxious for me to finish it too so here's some cedar pictures of me prepping the 8x8's i'm using for the stand's posts (yep i had a few sitting in a pile that should work nicely).

keep posting as you have time and we'll all be here sending prayers and good wishes and maybe even keeping the SHED DOWNUNDER thread alive until it's maker can start posting more pictures of his adventures and chores himself.

take care and may god bless you and your family.

Drives my thanks go to your self and everyone here, with out doubt the support has just been over whelming.:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

Looking forward to seeing your finished mail box, given what you have done thus far it will come up a treat.

We are into spring here now even though the nights are cool we have had some really nice days and today is one of them so I intend to try some hand watering in the garden I find this is great therapy

Enjoy you day..

1/2 Cup I echo all the others here that we are so glad to see you make the occasional post here and glad to hear of the improvements you are seeing. It will feel like a slow road back but just keep relying on the good family you have around you and the doctors working for your recovery.
As was said, QST will come soon enough. I bet that MG was just a blast to drive. I've always loved the look and design of those cars. Get well and know that you are in many prayers for continued healing.

Bob

rmalkow, thank you..

Getting there..

The drive in the MG was just awesome:3gears:

1/2

Prayers for you daily on this end of the planet. Like an old Warrant Officer used to say:

"Fight them till your ****** as a bull"! Never quite sure what that actually meant, but that guy usually stood tall!!

Prayers and Best Regards my Friend!!

HERB

Herb thank you for your visit.

Fight on " I will ":3gears:

1/2

Sending a prayer every day until you're back to you old self!

Doug

Doug, sincerely thank you...

Fantastic to hear from you, so glad that things are looking up!

Sean, thank you.
We are getting there that's for sure..

Once again a huge thank you to every one.

I trust your day is going well..

1/2: nice to see you posting like your old self again. thanks for the updates and still praying you recover and get back to 100%.

i like the idea of maybe selling the Model A and maybe getting an MG sort of like the blue one Andrew just bought that sounds like a blast to drive. as much as i like the Model A's and T's i really LOVE the old MG'S and british cars from that era.

I'm tipping my hat and shoving my cold mug of ice tea at you and hoping you will be able to do the same for many years to come even if it's a cold beer or water it's all good.

BIG CHEERS

also in case you might want to get in on our GET HEALTHY thread while you gain some of your lost weight and senses back here's the link and sometimes we have some great information to share and we'd all love to hear your story as you have time cause from a cold to Cheemo and losing 20 or more pounds is not something a lot of us have a clue about and hopefully don't want to experience it ourselves.

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=298568

i'll post up more cedar mailbox pics later this week as i get r done.

As always, keeping an eye on you from Mud Island as well.

Good to see you pop in.

Shout via PM if you need more direct comms

Rian, thank you:thumbup:

I have been feeling a whole heap better in myself over the last few days, still as weak as a kitten though.

I did manage an hours QST this morning ( taking things easy I might add ) Andrew had borrowed my good IWATA spray gun some time back, it needed a good clean and I took the opportunity to fit a new overhaul kit that I have had for ages but never got around to it.

Just another job off the to do list.

I will PM as required..

Drives thank you.

Everyday I am feeling better in my self although the fatigue is not letting up. I am only 1/2 way through the treatment as yet with more Chemo to come and possibly more Radiation.

I don't feel that making a decision to sell the A for what ever is the right thing for me to do at the moment given where the treatment is at.
That said I brought myself a real nice Warren & Brown 1/4 inch drive torque wrench on line yesterday specifically for the Rover K Series engines.

http://wbtools.com.au/products/deflecting-beams/deflecting-beam-torque-wrenches/

I did drop in to the GET HEALTHY THREAD earlier and posted..

Thank you one and all, have a great day..

Glad to see you slowly back on the mend 1/2 cup.

Maybe Andrew can set up a comfy chair in the shed so you can at least ponder for a bit here and there.

Take care GB

All,
Thanks again for your posts, as you can see dad is punching around doing what he can.
MG's are of abundance have been offered by a family member ( see my profile pics), he knows they are in the best hands (dads) and you all will see a variety of MG's visiting dad.

The MG Tc (the blue one previously pictured) has been great to frequent dad over the past few weeks to break the cycle and provide distraction for dad in a field he knows well, with all old cars there is always some form of attention required - I describe a miss or a noise and dads on it, check the do this, do that and explaining in detail the possibilities and causes, he says he has chemo brain.... still has it when it comes to engines.

As for selling the A .... hmmmm dad and I will need to discuss that one lol - but in the meantime I'll keep him distracted with MG's.:3gears:

I won't tell him what I'll bring next but stay tuned over the next few weeks

You know what they say, the family that has QST together, stays together. Or something like that? Interesting torque wrench, I don't think I have seen one like it before.

"If there's one thing dad loved more than serenity, it's a Rover K Series engine at full throttle!"

Quote adjusted a bit with my poetic license.

1/2, I'm so glad that you are doing better. I'm still hoping for a speedy and complete recovery. That MG looks like fun to drive. Take care and get plenty of rest so you can have plenty QST soon!

How about an old MG to drive while you finish restoring the Model A? ...Or you know, you could just send the Model A to me! Glad to hear you're doing ok, all things considered.

Glad you are on the mend!

K Series in a Model A - now there's an idea:thumbup:

Thank you Paul, appreciated..

Redwolf947, yet again than you..

The MG TC was a real buzz to drive even with all its vagaries. I am looking forward to another blast this week end if I am up to it..

I have been pottering in the shed but at the moment the Quality has gone from the Shed Time to some extent but I am finding any time I do have there is fantastic therapy at the moment..

How about an old MG to drive while you finish restoring the Model A? ...Or you know, you could just send the Model A to me! Glad to hear you're doing ok, all things considered.

Andrew, that is my biggest issue at the moment I do really need an every day driver while I do finish the Model A. To be able to drive the MG, mind you its is just that an every day driver, has really got me fired up to get off my **** and get into it.

Just looking back through my thread over the past four years I think I need a few more days in a week to get there..

Thank you:thumbup:

PS I will ponder sending the A up your way..;)

Glad you're on the mend Steve, you had me worried.

Dan, thank you:thumbup:

No cause for concern at all I am here for the long haul. The Chemo after effects really put the hand brake on big time..

UPDATE

I had my CT Scan and bloods done yesterday and results review this morning with the oncology specialist.

Firstly my collapsed lung is back to normal and functioning well:thumbup:
We went through the before and afters from the scans and the tumors have shrunk even more:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

The specialist is extremely happy with my recovery ( so am I just quietly as it really put some spring back in my steps ):thumbup::thumbup:

I have been booked in next week to have a second cycle of Chemoo just to clear up the dregs of the Cancer cells that you could clearly see on the scans.
Then followed up with a new immunotherapy drug that has just been listed by the AMA for use in Australia.

In terms of returning to work that looks like a couple of months away yet but rest assured I WILL be making the most of QST to aid my recovery..;)

Thank you one and all for you visit and encouraging posts, enjoy your day..

Absolutely great news, Steve!! :rocker:

If you're like me, just being in the shop sitting and pondering and soaking it all in is wonderful therapy. You could sit out there and make a "to do" list. I did, and now my "to do" lists have "to do" lists.......sigh......

Baby steps.

Steve, this advice is premature because you have some time before returning to work. After my 11-day hospital stay I returned home to rest and recover. It was slow going at first but after two months I was ready to return to work. Doctors delayed their approval until after I was fitted with an artificial arm. I was told not to wear the arm more than four hours a day to start. To get to work I had a two-hour train ride in the morning, eight hours in the office and a two-hour train ride home at night. By the end of the first week I had bleeding sores and was completely exhausted. Went to bed Friday night and pretty much stayed there through Monday morning. A transit strike at the end of a month saved me -- my boss called and told me to stay home until it was over.

I was 21 so my sense of immortality was badly crushed. I know you are older and wiser but the difference between active days with naps interspersed when you feel weak and full-on days at the office with few or no breaks is night and day. I'm sure you can work with your bosses to arrange a flexible schedule that builds up to a full workday/workweek because overdoing it too soon can cause a real setback.

Bob, as per usual your pearls of wisdom are taken on board..
We do have a Return to Work Coordinator who will map out a strategy in consultation with my GP, Oncology Specialist and not forgetting Mrs 1/2 Cup for my integration back to the coal face.
I would expect to be able to work from home in the first instance then as I am able to maybe a few hours per day say a couple of days per week for a bit
Our company is just fantastic in that regard. Even though I am keen to get back on track I am patently aware of not being too over zealous and as you say can be a real set back in any recovery.

Thank you one and all..

I am a huge advocate of the "drive one while building another one" approach. During the years when I had projects, but no exciting/interesting drivable vehicles, I made less progress on the projects (as I didn't have the driving to reinvigorate enthusiasm), plus I lost the opportunities to enjoy driving over those years. At one point 10-15 years ago I sold a very good driver for a project, and as a result didn't have a proper drivers car for about 5 years, during which my enthusiasm waned and progress on the project ground to a halt. I swore I would never do that again.

On the other hand, you could just buy a nice driver and send the Model A to me. Hey, you encouraged the suggestion!

Glad to hear the good reports. Also glad to hear your employer is so good about recovery time and transition back to work. Down the road when you are up for some part time involvement even from home I know it can actually be a help to get the brain back in step with what used to be normal life. We spend a great part of our lives at the job and its hard to just quit completely like this and have no involvement. Ease back in slowly. Wishing you continued good news in healing as you continue the chemo process and other treatments.

1/2: your posts are looking a lot like your normal self and sounds like you are getting good results from the Dr.'s office so best of luck with your continued success. i know it's probably a day to day thing with getting your energy which might help if you had an appetite and wanted to eat so steady as she goes is the goal and I hope you keep progressing.

since you built (or re built) one of the best Rover engines around is there maybe a way to keep your Model A and put one of your Rover engines in it instead of sending the A to MH?

or like maybe has been said drive all the MG's Andrew brings home while you are maybe making the Model A as you had planned.

cheers and have a great day.

Bret

Bret, I am not so sure about the Legendary title but I am feeling a whole heap better in my self and my capacity to concentrate makes things just a little easier.
The Chemo next week may pull me back a gear or two for a bit

Thank you..

Andrew, I totally agree, I always keep my eye out for something that is suitable and over the past few years have checked out a number of imported 1930 Model A Coupes but with the dollar the way it has been there is not a whole heap coming into the country of late and the prices are way out of the ball park at the moment.

The other issues I have is time and space just at the moment but that's something I can work around in the interim or I should just retire. In any case I have lots of options to seriously consider into the future.
Going through the Cancer treatment has really made me reassess things here, including sending the A up north;)

Easing back into work slowly will be key.
My employer is very flexible in that regard and I will not have any problems there.

1/2: your posts are looking a lot like your normal self and sounds like you are getting good results from the Dr.'s office so best of luck with your continued success. i know it's probably a day to day thing with getting your energy which might help if you had an appetite and wanted to eat so steady as she goes is the goal and I hope you keep progressing.

since you built (or re built) one of the best Rover engines around is there maybe a way to keep your Model A and put one of your Rover engines in it instead of sending the A to MH?

or like maybe has been said drive all the MG's Andrew brings home while you are maybe making the Model A as you had planned.

cheers and have a great day.

drives again, thank you.

We are extremely pleased with the results let me tell you and you are right the recovery and getting over the treatment after effects is most certainly a day to day thing and to some extent an hour by hour process but the good thing is we have progress..:rocker:

I have already complete the engine for the Model A and I do not think that the restoration purists would approve of a transplant like that;)

I do like your second option however..

Caught up with some of your work mates 1/2 whilst at the Elmore Field Days.

HOTFR8, good stuff.

We normally have a display and information setup over there every year.

Dad and my uncle were there yesterday as well, I am not sure what they came home with..:dunno:

Cheers

Thank you one and all for your visit, enjoy your day..

I am a huge advocate of the "drive one while building another one" approach. During the years when I had projects, but no exciting/interesting drivable vehicles, I made less progress on the projects (as I didn't have the driving to reinvigorate enthusiasm), plus I lost the opportunities to enjoy driving over those years...

I think that you hit the nail on the head there Andrew, it certainly rings true with me.
Some wise person once said "life's too short to drive boring cars" - I can't remember who that was, but he's obviously very wise.

The up north plans for the A sound like an idea some one may regret later.

The importing issue at present has issues with any vehicle that may have Asbestos in it. Not easy to deal with from all reports I have read.

It is actually Legendary 1/2 Cup. That's just who you are.:bowdown::bowdown:

More A pictures would be appreciated.

Careful. He has enough to recover from with out adding a swelled head .

Steve keep up the good work! Model A is a great choice for return to QST as basics are low stress and keep you focused on your own basic health. When you are both renewed you will have a kinship that will be a greater bond than you would have had without the trials you were forced to face. Bobby

1/2: now i remember that radiator that looks amazing that you spiffed up before Andrew dropped off a little Rover engine project.

yes i agree more pics of the Model A as you get time if you have any or maybe as you feel better you can set up the West wing as MODEL A central.

best of luck with the new Cheemo and hope you can find some nutritious foods you like while your taste buds and appetite recover.

cheers

1/2 Cup,
It's good to see you posting more!
Don't be overdoing things though.
I'm very happy that you are on the mend!

jon04 thank you..

I really do not have a lot of option when it comes to over doing things as this old body soon lets you know when I have hit the rev limiter..

Hey Steve, great to hear that your health is heading in the right direction and to see you posting again.

Like others have said, be careful not to overdo it.

Mark, thank you as well..

Its little by little in every sense of the word and baby steps, we will get there.. Mrs 1/2 Cup goes crook at me if I do any way..

Mark, Andrew is spot on:thumbup::thumbup:

Every time I see the A, it makes me smile. The attention to detail is "A"mazing.

Strouty, thank you..

I do luv my Model A

More A pictures would be appreciated.

Andy, you are embarrassing me big time:lol_hitti

I am certainly no where near worthy of any status. I am just a normal Aussie bloke with a normal Aussie back yard shed who loves doing stuff.:)

Pics to follow..

HOTFR8, you are spot on, I still regret selling many of my cars/motorbikes in the past and the Model A would be no different.

Interesting in regards to the Asbestos issue and imports, I will do some research on that one.:headscrat

I am dodging the swell head let me tell you..

Andrew
, I don't have to look to far for projects, if I retired now and was a little fitter I recon I would A) never get bored and B) have enough to fill the rest of my days in.:eyecrazy:

Yes the radiator was a precursor to the K Series build

Pics to follow:thumbup:

Being the second cycle of Chemo I now know what to expect so I am not delving into the unknown so to speak.
As for some palatable foods I think I am resigned to the supplements until the taste buds get back to normal I had a small portion of fish last night and it still had that funny taste about it. yuk..

The Model A.
