Sorry I missed it, but Happy Birthday. Must have been a great ride in the supercharged car. It looked fast just sitting there.

The solar E-bath sounds like the best thing, no real cost after initial setup. Looks like it did a good job on the vise too.

HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY 1/2. Henry looks like a lot of fun to drive.. So good to see you doing better.

Redwolf947, many thanks:thumbup:

Henry is just awesome and looking forward to my next drive:3gears:

Happy Birthday a day late my fellow Libra and so happy to see you back a and kickin around. Hope you have many, many more!

BF, many thanks.:thumbup::thumbup:

Librans are a tough bunch...;)

Taking things easy, gradually regaining the strength to get back to some normality and QST..

1/2: so you painted the Dawn vise already? i'm guessing a rich red colour or got any pics?

so except for maybe adding some supports under the 4x4's to the 8x8's that it might be more for BLING than needed i'm done with the mailbox stand so here's a couple shots for you to enjoy while you are recovering from today's Cheemo.

you do look like a happy camper in those MG's that Andrew is coming over with and sounds like they are fun to drive too. still gaining a few pounds a week?

cheers

drives, no I did not get a chance to paint the vise as yet. I will have to get the paint colour mixed as it is not something that it is off the shelf "rattle can"

I absolutely luv your mail box and I tip my hat to you for doing an excellent job on it. IMHO I don't think it needs any thing more to be added as what you have done gives it FORM and FUNCTION..

All,

As I am going through the Cancer treatment process and you would think that I had plenty of time on my hands however the last few months have been particularly busy which is great.

. Visitors.
. Emails.
. Texts.
. Garage Journal.
. Random specialist appointments
. Blood tests
. Chemo sessions

So I infact get little time for QST as much as I would like..

The Chemo went well yesterday but my bloods showed a lower than normal Hemoglobin level so the specialist has booked me in for a blood transfusion today as a precaution only. This will be an in patient session for the day..

Putting on weight even though my taste buds and appetite is still up the creek.
Managing the fatigue from the Chemo as best as I can.

Thank you one and all, enjoy your day..

Stop press

And I have certain members to blame for this but I have another Vise announcement to make in the next day or so..

Happy Birthday Steve. Nice looking vice.

Bobby, thank you:thumbup:

I am looking forward to finishing the vise, it should come up well.

Strouty, thankyou..

The ride was something that you do not forget.:rocker:

I do luv my Solar E Bath. When I built it there was very little capital cost as most of the bits were scrounged, the solar panel was headed for the dumpster that is unashamedly removed and took out for further inspection at home and all that was wrong with it was a twenty cent diode, so I replaced both of them:willy_nil.

It does a ripper job of rust and to a lesser extent is pretty good at paint removal ( dependant on the substrate )

Thank you one and all, have a great day from my hospital bed ( all going well with the transfusion )

1/2: i saw you mention a blood transfusion and guess i didn't know you'd have to spend more time in the hospital. i hope all goes well. i had several friends battling cancer and the looked forward to their blood transfusions that gave them a lot more energy and i'm sure extended their lives.

good luck and some good reads on GJ and i guess you got some Rover engine and maybe some other good magazines to read if you feel like it.

take care and again more prayers sent for you and your family.

drives, the transfusion was not planned but came about as a result of the blood test on Monday and the low hemoglobin levels. More of a precautionary strategy than any thing else.

With Cancer treatment the goal posts truly move on a daily basis.

Never fear I can not say there is never anything to do, like I told the specialist today as she was concerned I may be getting bored and my reply was " not in 100 years would this black duck be bored "

Thank you yet again.

Just think of it as an oil change!

Riven, to true, the doctor said I might be bouncing of the walls for the next couple of days..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE.....
Henry sounds like a hoot to drive....

Lynn, thank you..

Henry is a challenge to drive but none the less enjoyable, fitted with radial tyres they make all the difference..:3gears:

Thank you one and all, have a top day ( home from hospital and all good. )

Putting me to shame with the the vise resto's :willy_nil

You have had yours barely a week and it's almost ready for paint, oh well.

I originally wasn't too worried about keeping the dawn colour when I get around to restoring mine but you have got me thinking now...

Anyway good to see the recovery is not getting you down too much.

Cheers GB

1/2: good to hear you are out of the hospital. feeling a bit better now since they might have given you a 20 year old's blood?

don't put the blame all on us cause i know you own a few more vises than just a couple, but we do like to see members pick up and save a few more so congrats on your new find and looking forward to seeing it.

if you haven't painted the Dawn we were talking about a version of Linseed oil with japan dryer, beeswax and turpentine to put on all my NAKED vises to keep them from rusting and i actually think they look better than painted ones.

best of luck with the health and hope you keep feeling better every day while you are getting this JUNK out of your system.

cheers

GB, at this point in time I probably have a little more time on my hands no doubt you will get there...

Being an older vise my preference is to look at the original colour, I see how that pans out as I have already done the bare metal treatment on a current version.

Things are going well with the after effects recovery, still a ways to go but moving in the right direction.

Great to see your posts. Although most of us have never met, you still get worried when one is not well. Good to see a steady recovery.

Terrick, thank you.

Most definitely the GJ has a great sense of community and it has been a tremendous shot in the arm to my recovery..

I missed your birthday? Well I hope it was enjoyable. And the Dawn vise looks really nice.

xtremek, thank you, the birthday was pretty memorable.

The Dawn vise is a nice one for sure, now for some where to put it.:dunno:

That is so true. I seem to worry more about people here than some in real life.

drives, I have felt no ill effects from the transfusion and woke quite refreshed this morning.:thumbup:

I have found all things VISE very addictive to be honest, now I know what you die hard vise collectors go through..:rocker:

The Dawn won't be painted for a while but in the mean time I have wiped it over with BLO.
Your mix sounds interesting.

All's well here this morning

Ummm, this is real life for me!! I know what you are saying, but as opposed to so much internet fiction, and TV make believe, we do know that each GJ member from those who never post to the Honorable 1/2 Cup are very much live, caring, hurting people. The good news is that on GJ we only need to see what people post about themselves, not all of their foibles.

Great recovery from Chemo!!

Andy, beautifully put..

Thus far no after effects from the Chemo or transfusion ( touch wood )

I managed to get a leave pass today and drive the 25 minute drive to work and touch base with my work colleagues. Originally intended to be a drop by and say g'day ended up being a 3/12 hour visit and I did not get to see everyone that I had intended to. It was wonderful to catch up with no work talk allowed by the boss.

A great day..........

Enjoy yours..

Now all I have to do is get good enough at sheet metal on the English Wheel that I do not even own yet to make it. :dunno: Where there is a ray of light there is hope; even for the hopeless. (P.S. All, my ( new to me ) WODEN quick release wood work vise arrived at the Shed Downunder last night.

View media item 75764
Apart form a clean up the vise will remain as it is..
The release spring needs some work but apart from that it is in excellent condition.

The PO gifted the vise to me as it has been in his family since new and we estimate that it would be post ww2 vintage.
I had been languishing in a shed lean to for many years and it was only after he had seen my Dawn that he said I have one of those you can have I you want it as I know it will be taken good care of..

No ill effects from the Chemo and transfusion at this point.
My weight is steadily gaining and I weighed in at 57 kg ( 125 lbs ) this morning. ( my normal weight is around 165 lbs and at my low point I was 114 lbs )
I do have Radiation Oncologist appointment this morning as a check up.

Thank you and have a great day.

1/2, I had Mike Davidson (Mikes Sidevalves) here this week and he tells me he called to see your brother.

HOTFR8, cool:thumbup: my brothers place is a social mecca for all things street rod, side valve engines, jet boat engines and you name it, he is known as HAVA CHAT.

We are taking the MG TC K replica "Henry" out there this week end for a run.

1/2: nice find on the old Quick release Woden and another great deal too. so now you have 2 nice wood vices for that TO BE MADE woodworking or wood work bench.

good to hear your body (and i'm sure your mind) are handling the Cheemo treatments better this time and really good to hear you are gaining some of your weight back.

i'm not sure exactly how long you were at work cause i think it was a typo with the fraction i saw, but sounds like you were there for a while and you really enjoyed your stay. you are a needed piece in that company's well oiled machine and i bet that they all want to see you on a more regular basis.

still saying prayers and liking all the VISE (VICE) bling too so keep up the search for a good patternmaker's vice.

cheers

3-1/2 hours is a long time at work, but being among your friends (and you are lucky enough to work among friends) is grand therapy as well.

Quite the weight loss, you're about in the same condition as my bull, of course you are getting good medical help. But the bull is gaining weight too.

Your new woodworking bench really needs side and end vises.

Thanks for taking the time to post!!

56kg!!!!! Holy cow - you must have had to run around in the shower to get wet....

I thought my weight loss was drastic - 105 kg down to 72 (231lbs to 158lbs), but you went way down. Good to hear you're putting it back on now.

And who actually owns that gorgeous Henry? Is it Andrews?

I hope your Oncologist appointment went well.

drives, thank you, I was pretty happy with the deal, finding space for all of them is my next issue. :dunno:

I am very pleased at how the treatment is going, I still get fatigued very easily and would hope that my taste buds get back to normal in the not to distant future but apart from that I can't complain.

No typo for the time I was at work, just ask Mrs 1/2 Cup a she was texting me on a 1/2 hourly basis wondering how I was going:eyecrazy:
I do work with a great bunch and we all work as a team and do have fun while we are at it..

Never fear I am always on the look out for "stuff" that I can put to good use.

Andy, it was a great few hours at work and I hope to do it again next week and you are right I was fantastic therapy for me and I guess to my work colleagues as well.

It was a huge weight loss, I was pretty much just skin and bones but fortunately we are on the up and up...:rocker:

I am thinking that another bench just may be in order to accommodate my accumulation of vises..:rocker:

From my corner at work.

Lyndon, I was in a bad way to begin with and lost weight rapidly. In the early days of treatment I was struggling to even maintain that let alone put on any.

Henry belongs to Andrew's wifes uncle and he generously let Andrew to have the car firstly to service it then to give me a blast in it..

The Radiation Oncologist appointment went extremely well and he was over the moon with my progress and just how much the tumors had shrunk. He did say that they will continue to shrink for the next two months.

No further radiation required at this point.:rocker:

I do have my Oncology specialist appointment and more bloods on Monday just to check on the Chemos progress..

Back out to the shed for more QST..

Thank you one and all, have a good one..

Glad to hear the good reports and weight gain. Every kg that comes back towards your normal will make you feel that much better. Praying for your continued progress.

I saw that little one liner statement in the last big post about possibly a new bench? Another world famous 1/2Cup designed work bench! A great idea I think when you are up for the task. You could always tease us a bit with some design work on paper? Hint, hint.

Glad you got to put Henry to the test and hope you get another chance.

Great Steve. I have a B diamond block also. Plan eventually is to build with some of the things I have learned from building the A pickup. I've looked into the overhead valve setups but they are pretty pricey. Who knows? The fun is in the learning. I am in sawmill mode now for the big project. It's nut gathering time for the squirrels in my brain.

Looks like some great lumber for your new bench!

Glad Henry can stay over. I know you'll take great care of him.

Still praying for your full recovery mate.

Andy, I thank you.

Its a nice mix of timber, some Oregon, Tasmanian Oak and Redgum all well aged and recycled which should make for a good contrast.

Henry will be in good hands, my life may depend on it if I stuff up:scared:

The recovery is going well..

Henry is great and all, but what is that boat?????
Going to need pics, and a full story

Riven, Henry is a gem in all respects,

The boat is an older ( 30 yld ) fibreglass, clinker hull ski boat, powered by a 302 ford mid mount v8:thumbup:

Next time I am out there I will get some more pics..

Have a good one...

Steve the timber you have for the bench is beautiful. I love the Redgum. I have a friend in the Blue Mountains that makes nearly everything out of Redgum and Tasmanian Oak.

1/2: you are starting to sound like your old self with TO DO LISTS, driving fast old COOL CARS and checking in with the guys at work, but i'm still sending prayers for a fast full recovery.

i love the idea of the wood bench and even cooler that you've got some nice material already set aside. don't push yourself too hard, but when you aren't visiting friends and relatives i'm here to say i'm going to pay attention to any woodbench build built by 1/2 WORKS if that happens.

speaking of relatives your DAD looks great and maybe cause he's looking at that cool HENRY you drove up to your brother's garage. is your DAD liking his new digs cause i think you all helped him move a while back? speaking of Brother had he seen it or drove it yet?

starting to rain a lot here now (2.5 inches predicted for just today) so guessing your weather is getting nice. enjoy your SUNDAY while some of us enjoy another SATURDAY.

cheers and a few of my hand planing with my Craftsman 3.5 inch electric planer that works ok even on big stuff if i can't get to the big planers i own or don't want to for small jobs.

have a great day and best of luck with this weeks medical stuff!!

The timber bench is an awesome idea. Recycling some beautiful wood. Looking forward to seeing it someday with your special design touch.

You're 1/2 as busy as a bee and that's great. Look forward to your timber bench build and continued positive check ups.

Shorty, thank you.

I do like to keep active and your right I am really only 1/2 as busy as I would luv to be but I am getting there..

Oncology Specialist appointment and bloods tomorrow for a check up. Apart from fatigue from the Chemo I am feeling fine..

The timber bench will be a ways off yet. Project wise I am keeping to stuff that I can manage easily at this point. I just have to pace myself..

Steve the timber you have for the bench is beautiful. I love the Redgum. I have a friend in the Blue Mountains that makes nearly everything out of Redgum and Tasmanian Oak.

Bret

Bret, we are fortunate to have some exquisite timbers out here but conversely you guys have some beautiful species that we can only dream of.
Redgum comes up well with some TLC but is extremely hard to work with..

1/2: you are starting to sound like your old self with TO DO LISTS, driving fast old COOL CARS and checking in with the guys at work, but i'm still sending prayers for a fast full recovery.

i love the idea of the wood bench and even cooler that you've got some nice material already set aside. don't push yourself too hard, but when you aren't visiting friends and relatives i'm here to say i'm going to pay attention to any woodbench build built by 1/2 WORKS if that happens.

drives thank you.

I do believe we are getting there in terms of the recovery, baby steps now and a ways to go but I am staying positive.

I am just working specifically to the Cancer Recovery To Do List at the moment with no particular time lines at this point in time.. Refer to the updated list below.

I have always been eager to do a timber work bench but is one project I have never gotten around to mainly due to conflicting priorities. Like the rest of my bench builds I can visualise just how I want it to turn out but have not put pen to paper as yet.
Even though I have plenty of real nice timber to build it there might be a spanner thrown in to the mix, as my neighbour, cancer survivor and good friend that I received the WODEN Vise from has the original bench ( ex funeral home carpenter shops ) it came from that I can have.
The bench is not readily accessible as its buried under piles of stuff in a lean to. I really need to evaluate its viability for a restoration but from what I can make out it has some lovely patina

You have done a great job with the hand plane:thumbup:
I do have a RYOBI 12 inch bench thicknesser but it struggles with redgum but it is fine for soft woods. I am privileged to have access to the big planner at work as it literally eats redgum..

Our Dad ( 85 ) is doing well, he gets a little forgetful at times. He has settled into his new independent living retirement home very well, infact I will be visiting him there today.

To answer your question, no my brother has not driven Henry as yet.

We have had some awesome weather here with day time temps in the mid 80s F and cool nights. We do need some rain however as the country will dry out fairly quickly over the next month or so.
I have been watering lawns and gardens constantly of late.

Looking forward to visiting dads new digs today, a visit from my youngest sister, working on Henry's wiring and getting some QST in as well.

Bob, thank you:thumbup:

I am certainly looking forward to a timber bench build into the future. I have seen some magnificent builds on the GJ over the years and its time now to add my take on one..
