Steve

Congrats on joining the Cancer Survivors Group! Great news, & welcome aboard.

Now just don’t go rushing that return to work. The 1st time I went back was for 4 hours a day for 3 days a week, & at the end of the 1st few 12 hour weeks I was nearly exhausted. So - don’t push it, especially as you’ve still got to drive home after you’ve finished work...... speaking from experience!

Lyndon, I feel like I am still doing my internship on the Cancer Survivors Group just yet but we are headed in the right direction:thumbup:

It will be a softly, softly approach returning to work for sure. I really do not want to go backwards either physically or emotionally for that matter.

Your terms sound just like the perfect work conditions. Just checking. Sounds like you know the rules for flying that drone. Now Runway 18 would be Tullamarine ? I wish I knew what flight paths flew over me. Even my Air controller cousin has not told me. :dunno:

HOTFR8, in terms of our return to work it is pretty good that said it will be on my terms and conditions which the organisation has acknowledged..

Runway 18 Shepparton. referring to the compass heading of the runway..

Try this link for all the info you need in regard to flight paths..

http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/

1/2, it's great to hear your doing so much better. Make sure like everyone else is saying not to over do it.

Well your in luck https://planefinder.net is pretty cool..

Redwolf947, thank you.

Note to file : Advise taken, I will be taking it easy :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

1/2 Cup,
Great news!
Know your limits, and don't overdo it at work.

Jon, thank you.

If there is one thing I have learnt over the past 7 months or so and is firmly imbedded in this pea brain now and that is " listen to what your body is telling you and if you don't understand that message seek professional help "

Fantastic news Steve. So happy for you!

:beer::beer:

Dan, thank you.
The journey has not ended yet but we can see the pathway forward.

Glad to hear the good news 1/2cup. Do ease back into work slowly to pace yourself and no doubt you'll have some fun with that drone amidst the work with it. I watched the intro video for that DJIM 600 and WOW! What a precision piece of equipment. That thing is amazing.

Bob, thank you, the news was such a relief.

The transition back to work will be a slow one I can assure you .

The DJI Matrice 600 is one nice bit of gear let me tell you that's why I do need some practice in the basics before we get let loose on the new UAV. that is the real fun part of work..:3gears:

Great news Steve. Apparently you are still needed here. Good examples of human nature to emulate are scarce and no doubt God knows that. Happy that the drone is all the view you will have at this time. Selfishly, I will have to say, I'm glad you will have to wait to get your golden wings; but I suspect the course correction you were forced to make has given you greater visibility in return.

Bobby, thank you for your kind words they are truly appreciated.
I guess we all have to do the odd course correction in life. This one has been and still will be to some extent an amazing journey and I have learnt so much and realised just how fragile our tenure can be at times.

Thanks great news from the Doc. Will SWMBO be happy you're no longer under foot, or be sad at missing your company?

xtremek, Thank you. I am guessing Mrs 1/2 Cup could do with a break herself. Its only been the last week or so that she has gotten back into her sewing..

Thank you one and all, have a top day..:3gears:

Congratulations on the good news. Definitely concur with others on taking it easy. I had a few colleagues getting back on the horse and turning half days into full days too soon which did them no good.

The drone looks very nice. Shame they have no tool(or beer) retrieval system. Good practice while fetching stuff between sheds!

Enjoy the long weekend!

And knowing 1/2Cup and the guys on here, there is also no reason not to design a system..... or tool.

THink magnet or a ring on a string, get it over the beer bottle neck, and bring it in. :bounce:

Guster, thank you.

I do have to admit that the news was quite a relief, I am not out of the woods as yet even still but we are getting there..:rocker:

I dropped into work this morning and have had the discussion with HR and management and they are both suggesting exactly as every one has iterated small steps at a time. When you think about it that arrangement will still give me plenty of QST:3gears:

Rian, we have the technology to do exactly that some of our engineers have suggested that it would be a great project for our Kick Starters Program we have..:willy_nil

Great news Mr. 1/2 cup. Well done.

GB

GB, thank you. We are getting there..

Now that is cool. I will have to watch and see where they go when they flow over me.

HOTFR8, It is a fantastic app, Mrs 1/2 Cup uses it to track our youngest sons frequent over seas trips:willy_nil

Thank you once again gentlemen have a great day..

Interesting to watch ( read as - get no work done) to see as they fly over me to Darwin or Mildura as domestic and many places in China. They also come in over me from Malaysia. Also interesting to see the different type of Aircraft flying over here.

Steve, you have already gotten all the good advice you can use. My last job as a contractor was more fun than work. The best part was that I didn't need the job. Enjoy the time at work and remember to treat the commute as work and you'll be fine.

HOTFR8, it certainly is interesting..

Mrs 1/2 Cup was tracking the Helimed Chopper to a road accident here this afternoon..

Good for you 1/2 cup!

No rush back to work get as much QST time in as you need!

Take extra helping of QFT as well!

Sub, thank you.

There is certainly no rush QFT and QST do indeed come first..

Bob, the advise has been fantastic.

I do very much enjoy my work and workplace is exactly that " fun "..

My commute is only a neat 20 minutes to home and I do take that on board as it is part of the working day..

Ideal gliding weather..

Ideal gliding weather translates to Hot weather. We just got a cool change with some rain. Doubt it will last long. Enjoy the long weekend and as much or as little QST as you require .

Just caught up on your thread Steve. What great news! It is all due to your positive outlook on life and general well being towards everyone. Glad to hear you get to go back to work. And would love to have a mini split in my garage someday.

HOTFR8, yep ideal weather and there are plenty of thermals in this neck of the woods.

No cool change or rain here at all.

Lots to do over the next three days, so plenty of QST..:rocker:

Bret

Bret, thank you.

We are very pleased with the results as well.

I believe the return to work in a measured way and under my terms and conditions will really help the recovery process..:rocker:

It was time to that we installed some more efficient air conditioning in the shed, I have a small split in the Office / Model A section, which work well but will not cool or heat the workshop area. The work shop area has an antique box air conditioner that I was given some 25 years ago, I repaired a leak in the evaporator, vacced and recharged and it still goes or be it not very efficiently or effectively & being R22 refrigerant its days are numbered.
We are also adding another split to the family room that gets installed next week, I have already completed all the electrical and prep work for that..

Thank you one and all, enjoy your day..:rocker:

1/2: you are sounding a lot like your old self with several irons in the fire with improvements and to do’s so congrats. I know you are not completely well yet, but heading back to work soon and good doctor’s checkups are surely a great sign of progress in that direction.

Big congrats and more prayers sent for your continued success!!

Drives, thank you.

I firmly believe I am getting back to the Old Me or should I say the "New Normal Me ".

You are spot on even though the after effects of the Chemo, Radiation, Immunotherapy are diminishing every day now to a point where I am eating full meals now & gaining weight ( with another 15 kg 30 lbs to go mind you ) I still have to increase the muscle tone that I lost big time but it will not happen over night..

All things are positive at the moment which is great, I have only another couple of days to transition off the Steroids and Antibiotics.

Still, I have to take things very easy and not over do things.

I thank you for you continued thoughts and prayers they are truly appreciated and quite clearly having a profound effect..

Enjoy your day..

1/2 Great news on your test results! We all hope things keep going well for you and your family in 2018...

I received a beginner drone for Christmas and I'm slowly getting hooked on them, I just checked out the Matrice 600 that you are getting, that thing is just awesome! More drone then I would ever need and probably a hefty price tag too...I have been looking at maybe upgrading to one of the DJI Phantom 4 or 3?

BF, thank you:thumbup:

Looking forward to what will become the "New Normal Me ".

In regards to an all round drone you can not go past either the DJI Phantom 3 or 4 , we have the Pro 4. at work. It is very user friendly and a delight to fly with a reasonable amount of battery time..
The camera produces some fantastic images as well.

Our new Matric 600 will be delivered, so I found out last night, on the 13th of next month so I am looking forward to that..:3gears:

Have a good one..

Congratulations on the continued improvement!!

I won't offer you the same advice every one else has (so I know you've heard it), my only comment is you know you have a schedule for the CASA certification, and you lighten the load on others at work, so don't let your value at work override the necessity to continue improvement, even when it means missing schedules.:(

15 mm will sure make a difference. I have been watering today as it did not take long to dry out here.

HOTFR8, the rain has made a difference for sure plus the weeds have grown along with it as well.

Still hot here again and tomorrow in and around 100 F for both days then we get into some more pleasant weather later in the week.

1/2: I surely don't envy your 100 degree temps and rain cause i bet it can be like a sauna, but once you have that new unit in your Shed Downunder i bet it will be perfect weather inside there in the future.

since you have the drone at home to work on and with are you already back on the payroll or when do you officially go back to work?

best of luck with that and from what i've heard about your job even though it's not a vacation it sounds like it's a very good place to hang your hat for a few hours to make some funds for more tools and stuff.

cheers

Around here when we get summer rain then back to 40 we enjoy a natural sauna until it all dries out. The cold is just not so bad thinking about the heat.:bounce:

Andy, Ours is mainly a dry heat, that said we do get the odd day during summer that the humidity goes through the roof. You do get used to the heat and work around it some what.

Drives, as I explained to Andy you do tend to work around it,. The hardest thing is going in and out of a nice air conditioned office or car into the heat. Our work hours are flexible enough to start early and knock off early to beat the heat. If you are out in the heat it is manageable..

The last couple of days I have been beavering away in the Shed Downunder fabricating all the bracketry, supports for the indoor and outdoor units and wiring as I go.

This is the unit I have elected to go with for both the familly room and Workshop area of the Shed Downunder,
coming from a Refrigeration background in a past life I do tend to over size things some what..

http://www.mitsubishielectric.com.au/msz-ge-60-80-wall-mounted-air-conditioners.html

The familly room install, with the exception of the electrics of course will be done by the supplier so as not to void the warranty and is booked in for Wednesday this week.

The split A C in the shed I will be doing the entire installation my self, just because I can and save a few $$$s

Unfortunately I was not able to take the drone home for the week end due to some firmware issues, however these should be resolved by next week end..

I am returning to work for 5 hours tomorrow and we will see how that goes for starters. I have heaps of work to keep me occupied and off the streets.

Then I may go in on Friday for the morning as well, depends on how I feel to be honest as I am starting to really get a feel as to what retirement will be like with all the things I have been able to achieve over the last month or so..:3gears:

Again, have a happy birthday..

Your cake looks yummy.

Thank you one and all, have a great day

Steve retirement reminds you why you worked all your life to begin with. Once you establish a routine you will never look back. Amazing what a nap in the afternoon will do to rejuvenate you. No more naps for me though; too much to do. I just start later and quit earlier now that the wife is retired too! Retirement is not for people who are too old to work. Its for those who have more they want to work with. Sounds like you can already see the light!

Howdy Steve... glad to hear all is well. Been down since Christmas fighting kidney stones and haven’t been doing a whole lot. Finally gave birth to twin 4mm stones yesterday... so hopefully will get some QST in this weekend...

Bobby, you are 100% correct.

Even though I do enjoy my work it was a little surreal returning there yesterday. I started at 6.30 am and pulled the pin at lunch time.
I spent most of that time catching up with my work colleagues and deleting some 1500 odd emails. I found my self a little rusty on some of our systems but got there in the end, however I was great to knock off early.

At this stage I will be going back to work on Tuesdays and Fridays.

I did cope with every thing pretty well when its all said and done:thumbup:

1/2 Cup. You gotta be feeling 2/3 or 7/8 full by now with getting a good bill of health to work with!! Been following this thread in the background for a while and I can say you are on top of your "Forum and Garage" game!!

Glad you are back at the UAV gig as well. I worked with getting a group here off the ground to do aerial mapping of Gravel Pits and Landfills etc for volume calculations and mapping. That was back in 2008 and man has the technology changed. We were one of the first in Canada to get our operating certificates and it was the wild west. Fast forward and my DJI Mavic Pro does a lot of good things and does it better than our $15K +++ aircraft back then.

Keep on truck'in!

TurtleValley I am guessing I would rate myself as 2/3 s full and improving all the time.

Its good to keep a thread moving or be it not all shed related but its me..

The technology and software in relation to Drone Operation as well as the mapping and processing software is changing almost on a daily basis. It does my head in just trying to keep up with it as a relative newby:willy_nil

I am looking forward to get some hands on flight time before the delivery and training of the DJI Matrice on the 13 th of next month.

Your video of your new build is pretty cool I might add.

Congratulations on being one of the first with the Operators Certificate..

1/2: did you make a thread for your new AC unit or do tell how you drilled or cut through the bricks and sealed them up to keep critters and bugs out your COOL BRICK HOUSE?

great to hear you were able to go to work and put in a half day to try and catch up. I bet with all the nice people you work with that your days there are very enjoyable while you are keeping Australia running on all cylinders.

cheers and keep up the great progress and work.

Bret, the air conditioner works a treat and you will not regret installing one in your garage let me tell you..
It is the same as I will be installing in the workshop area of my shed.

Looks like a real nice unit 1/2 cup. I'm wondering if it's been installed up to code?:lol_hitti

Dan, the Mitsubishi units have a great track record and our others have all performed well..
As for the installation you can put money on it being up to code..

Drives, apologies but no thread on the install. When you have two contractors doing the basic install and me doing the electrical connections it was all go and was completed in six hours flat from go to whoa I did not have time to scratch my self..

I did the penetration through the brick wall to run the refrigerant and drainage lines under the floor ( our home is built up on stumps so we have access underneath ), I basically removed 1/2 a brick by plugging out the mortar then making a cut with my 4" grinder with a diamond blade and then the 1/2 brick knocks out easily with a brick bolster.
The hole will the be sealed up with a mortar mix to keep it vermin proof

Day two of Return to Work this morning.
I started at my usual time of 6.30 and knocked off at 12.00 noon, it will take me a month of Sundays to catch up on things but I am chipping away at things slowly. This morning I had to complete my personal skills matrix to assess my development and training needs then interviewing on of our graduate engineers in relation to his developmental requirements as well.

Now that people know that I am back the emails are starting to roll in, but I will do only what I can reasonably squeeze into a 1/2 day.

Al in all its going well..

Thank you one and all, have a top day..
