Very good picking there on those I-beam pieces. When the picture first popped on my screen I immediately though "anvils". I must be learning something from reading your thread.
A good plan to bless your neighbor as well. You both get new anvils and continue a well honored tradition of being good neighbors.

Well played on the gift sir. You are a true gentleman.

Thank you gentlemen:thumbup::thumbup:, the I Beam has been a great score. This is what my neighbour had been using as an anvil..

He had been using the shaft in particular and there is no damage to the pulley it self. I am just about to invite him over this afternoon to show him his new anvil.

I feel so privileged to have this opportunity to be able to return the favour..

We can leave it at impressed. ;)

The Toyota has some real nice standard features that I wasn't expecting, it is very comfortable and for an Auto plus all wheel drive the Rav is fairly nippy of the mark.:3gears::3gears:

I am not a big auto fan at a at the best of times, my old Mitsubishi Outlander was manual which I really liked:thumbup: but the auto versions would not pull the skin off a sausage.

We will see how it goes..:3gears:

It used to be Auto was an option on everything. These days a Manual is hard to get and I was told recently Auto's are stolen now more than Manuals.

Your're right. Yet in the UK and Europe manuals are still the norm by a wide margin and there are heaps of late model manual BMW's, Mercs, Audis, VW's, not to mention Camrys and other things that you just can't buy in a manual here. It is really hard to book a hire car over there and be guaranteed it will be an auto they are so thin on the ground.

I had my daughter's Yaris for sale for ages last year before it finally went. It had everything going for it if you want a tiny little buzzbox - low k's, full service record, new tyres, air con, power windows, tinted windows and was priced at the low end of the Red Book price range but I didn't get a single enquiry for about 2 months and I reckon it was because it was a manual. The target market - young people, probably girls, looking for an economical first car - can't drive them. I eventually sold it to the only enquiry I had. To the credit of her Dad who had insisted like I did with my girls that she learn to drive a manual from the outset, she wanted one. If it had been an auto I think it'd have been gone in 48 hours.

1/2: are we hijacking your thread AGAIN!!

funny all this manual talk cause i'm looking to buy another one myself and they certainly are not common here.

in fact i heard a fact that manual cars are not stolen very often cause the kids and thieves don't know how to drive them.

I'm happy you got a new car even if it is an automatic. speaking of manuals did you (or Andrew) fix the MG after the radiator fiasco and when is your next trip around the track so you can shift again?

We  sadly do that to 1/2.

Pretty much the direction I was heading that when I posted. Even to the point a B Double stolen here a few years ago some one stated to the Police they knew some thing was wrong as they had never heard any truck leaving the depot across from them grating gears. Pity they had not called it in then as the Police would have caught them.

It's getting real hard to even find a stick shift here. I think GM offers it only on the Sonic, Cruze, Camaro, some V-series Caddy's and the Corvette. I don't think you can even get a truck with a manual from GM anymore.:headscrat After I've worn out the Saturn, I'll get to inherit my wife's Sonic with a 6spd manual turbo.:bounce:

Sadly the CTS-V doesn't come with a manual on the newest generation, but the ATS-V does. You can get a manual on the Colorado but no 1/2 ton truck in the US is sold with a manual any longer, you can get one in the Ram Cummins trucks though. When we bought my wife's last two cars they had to be shipped in from out of state because no one in Oklahoma had a manual. She loves her 6 speed Jeep Wrangler though and that makes me happy. Missing the manuals here. Once again sorry to keep hi-jacking your thread 1/2 Cup.

Exactly what I said. Easier to supply Auto than a Manual.
I do believe you will find it suits you nicely.

HOTFR8, The new Toyota is not to bad actually..

Geoff289 that is unreal to have the majority of vehicles as manuals in Europe..:headscrat

I can relate to your daughters car not selling, our fleet company told our fleet manager that manuals just don't sell like an auto..:eyecrazy:

Learning to drive and getting our two sons licences in a manual was a must..:3gears:

Drives, no high jack at all, it has been an interesting discussion..

All the more reason to buy a manual if they are not likely to be stolen.

The # 76 MG F has had the head pulled as it looked like the radiator had been over pressurised due to a faulty head gasket, however it may require a rebuild looking at the head as it was burning oil..

We  sadly do that to 1/2.

JB, I think it is time I get the Model A Ford on the road with its three speed crunch gearbox that I have to double the clutch on..

No High jack, the pleasure is all mine

When I bought my 2015 Ford F-350 I was a bit surprised they only offered automatic. While I like manuals for my farm truck I want an automatic. Backing a trailer into tight spaces is enough easier with the automatic.

i like your beams! I got mine in in 1972, 12" to 18" drops at a shop I was working in. I have three pieces, use them for supporting frames I might be building, but cut a horn into one. These are 1-1/2" flange and 7/8" web, 144#/ft.

attachment.php

I put all three in the boot of my 1954 Chevy 4 Door on the day they were given to me. Talk about a tail dragger.

Andy, as much as a manual has its place, I do have to agree with your views on an Automatic transmission.

Thank you.

Yours are huge..

I can relate to your 54 being a tail dragger with three of them, my poor old 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander really struggled as well.:eyecrazy:

I am going to try and clean mine up a little tomorrow and I am looking forward to seeing how it comes up.

Your horn idea appeals for sure.. I am looking at mounting mine on a nice solid piece of Red Gum timber..

Have a top day and thank you for your visit..

Riven, I had to get my eldest son to give me a hand to lift them.:shocking:

I intend to give one to my neighbour and good friend who has been just so giving over the years and is a cancer survivor. He has recently given to me an old cast flat belt pulley that had a 3 inch shaft which he had been using as anvil and would not accept one cent for it so I will surprise him with a suitable compromise..

Steve they make great sheet metal working tools especially. There is no such thing as scrap! Good neighbors are a blessing. Good friends are a treasure!

Bobby, thank you so much:bowdown:

The I Beam will be just ideal for what I need.

I totally agree that there is no such thing as scrap around here either..

I invited my neighbour ( Rocket is his nick name ) to show him his new anvil and he was just blown away.:rocker:

Any way I said to him that I would run it over this morning on my trolley but I gave that idea up as a bad joke as it is just too heavy and Rocket is not in the best of health either so we are waiting for Andrew to give us a hand.

Thank you for your visit and have a great day.

All, our local Aero Club has a buffet breakfast every other Sunday morning. Dad ( an ex club president ) hadn't been to a breakfast for some time so we decided to drop in this morning and enjoy a hearty breakfast with some great company.

It has been many months since I have had a full cooked breakfast, bacon, eggs, grilled tomatoes, hash browns, sausages, mushrooms in butter sauce. Topped of with juice and a fresh fruit platter..

We do have a lot of itinerate pilots from all over the state fly in most breakfasts and to day I counted 12 fly ins.

Amongst the visitors was a represented for Cirrus Aircraft Australia with a brand new Cirrus SR22 demo aircraft.

A single engine, 5 person aircraft..

In terms of Avionics this is up with the best, takes the guess work and really eases the work load on any pilot.

It is a full Garmin designed and built package..

This thing is just awesome and has all the whistles and bells plus some..

No I didn't test fly it and no I did not put a deposit ( as much as I would like to have done ) on the AU$800,000.00 aircraft..:shocking:

1/2: sounds like a fun morning with your dad and are you getting the itch to maybe fly again soon?

so any ILL EFFECTS of eating that AWESOME BREAKFAST? are your taste buds almost back to normal?

i'm having to move more than a few pieces of steel and wish you were closer cause i've got about a 1.5 or 2 inch 18x16 piece of steel plate I keep having to move that looks like it would sit nicely on one of your benches or make a helluva base for a stand.

hope you had a great weekend and best of luck with the week of full time work.

cheers

Drives, it was a great morning with Dad and it would be nice to get in the air again however until I am off some of the medications I am on I would not pass a medical to fly, that said I can still fly with an instructor but it adds considerable cost per hour to do so..

No ill effects from eating the huge and varied breakfast at all thankfully. Although my taste buds are nearly back to normal there are still some things I can not eat or drink at this point in time for example I loved my coffee and drank gallons of the stuff but it tastes a little too bitter now ( probably a good thing ) and bread of all things, its mainly the consistency that makes it a little difficult to swallow..

Your steel plate would be just ideal for my leg vise stand...

I had a top week end and have decided not to go into work today and just take things easy for a bit with the rest of the week fairly busy including a new round of Bloods and High Resolution Scans.

Thank you for your visit, have a top day..

It's funny how the whole coffee thing changes, isn't it. I haven't had coffee, or tea, since my chemo and op either. Not that I could get a whole mug down anyway, but I'm now nearly 4 years since a coffee or tea (and 26 years since a coke or anything caffeinated for that matter).

Lyndon
Dropping by and catching up!

1/2: i'm guessing you meant that you hadn't had a chance to see your Dad during all your cheemo and happy to hear you two could catch up. did he teach you how to fly?

I seem to recall you are having a bunch more medical tests this week and hope they are all coming back with good results.

as always take care and hoping you are feeling a bit better every day.

Wow!! Nice gift!

What can I say...

:lol_hitti

Andy you need not say any thing at all..;)

Hey 1/2, glad to read things are going well. Great work on the saw! Bummer about the track day, but hopefully you'll get the opportunity again soon!

Andrew, things are going well at the moment..

The saw is basically complete apart from fabricating a stand and a minor mod to the vise base to compensate for some wear as the cut is not perfectly square.

The track day was short and sweet with the # 76 car, it looks like it will be in for a full overhaul as when the head was pulled is was clear that it has been burning oil..
We still have Andrews' old race engine push comes to shove..

Steve

Lyndon, I still can't handle Coffee, Tea or Vic Bitter ( beer ) and I used to drink gallons of coffee.

Coke, I can handle OK and funnily enough tap or bottled water tastes awful to me so I stick to my lemonade ( dietician approved ) or chilled water with a squeeze of lemon as a thirst quencher now a days.

I am feeling ok, eating normally and still putting on weight.

Drives you are right I didn't get to see much of Dad during my treatment at all so it was great to have a one on one so to speak and we will be doing it more often for sure.

When Dad was flying I would go with him and received quite a bit of hands on before I went through the training with a Flying School. It was invaluable experience as it made my "official training" just that much easier.

Medical tests all completed, I had bloods on Tuesday and a full on High Resolution CT Scan yesterday with an Oncologist appointment next Wednesday to see where we go to from here with my treatment.

Note to file: The Barium drink that you have for a part of the scan is not nice. I nearly lost it.
I also had an intravenous drip as well that sends a hot flush through your body in a nano second at the same time.

Feeling great..:thumbup::thumbup:

Never fear I will be posting more rodent pics. They are all doing well and have doubled their birth weight already and just starting to crawl but not too far at the moment.

Andys' hammer is just way too cool, I luv it..

Thank you one and all, have a great day or evening as he case may be..
