Fence came out looking great, nice work!

Interesting talk about water restrictions. In my work I cross paths with some staff from Sydney Water, their research has shown that many of the behaviours enforced under our previous water restrictions are still being followed by the majority of people, years after they were last enforced (the last drought). The challenge with water is that its so damn cheap. At work we've installed around 34 separate solar systems on our facilities, they pay for themselves and are a complete no brainer. But water efficiency measures are much harder to justify, so often drop off the list as budgets tighten up. But our major cities are growing at major rates, and we're not getting increased rainfall to match. Recycled water, desal, water efficiency are all going to have play their parts in the future I think.

Slim: in 1/2's defense he did just spend a week in the hospital the day or two before he came home and immediately put up the fence, but it's sure nice to see you posting again cause even if you were a bit hard on the old 1/2 Cup I'm betting he's still smiling.

1/2: carry on and I think it might be Saturday when you read this so hope you enjoy your weekend!!

Thank you Hewey

For the most part our permanent water saving rules are working really well and there is an ongoing media awareness campaign by our urban water authorities to reinforce that. I totally agree that water is way to cheap, however the bulk of our water bill is made up of service charges.

We are mush the same at work where there is a huge impetuous on solar as the return on investment is quantifiable and not so with water usage.

Our is a Rural Water Authority

https://www.g-mwater.com.au/about

We do focus heavily on water efficiencies in the bigger scheme of things as well and as you say we all have to play our part in that.

1/2: i'm hoping your week is going well and maybe even better that you are not sitting in a doctor's office or a hospital bed. hope your health keeps improving on a steady pace!! is Friday a work day or now part of a steady diet of 3 day weekends?

Slim: it's comments like these that you come up with that we all love, but even if you don't have something amazingly clever or funny we'd still like to hear from you more often just in case you do have one of these little gems to post.

cheers

I am feeling better all the time now and I trust it will keep up this way.

I have more bloods and another scan tomorrow with an Oncology appointment on Wednesday just to check up on how things are going and the Pneumonitis is healing up.

I trust your weekend has gone well.

Slim does it well:thumbup:

Steve, I wouldn't go sharing that aluminum hoard where Andy can see it. You're probably safe, what with the trip taking three days (45 hours flying time and 17 hours driving time) from Terlton to Tulsa to Shepparton through Sydney.

I can see a place I can borrow an engine stand if needed, that is if they are not all in use.
Some one looks like they are going to be busy. I have been meaning to ask. Did Andrew miss the engine rebuild gene in your family?

HOTFR8, I am still short of a few engine stands believe it or not. The big issue is where to put them all:confused:

There is plenty to do all the time it never stops. There is a K Series cylinder head waiting for the treatment as well.

I will mentor him through the process, he does not to bad at all:thumbup:

I have also been potting on the lathe a bit at a time and I am in the process of trying a Variable Speed Drive on it as you do.

Man that is cool Steve. It's been awhile since I had an engine on a stand. There is something so gratifying about it. In my case it was usually after I had blown it up and was putting new speed parts and fresh machine work.

Boy oh boy the abuse I take and keep coming back. I would never melt down a good engine. But, you only need new engines because another engine has gone sour, right? And sometimes all the aluminium has not been destroyed. Right? And something must be done with it. Right?

JB has it figured out, save the landfill space for plastic straws.

That lineup is super cool, Steve!

P.S. Don't leave them outside overnight...

1/2: remember what I said about having a TO DO LIST and if we didn't well then we'd probably be dead? I think Andrew's help in bringing over new and used Rover engines is so you'll always have something on the TO DO LIST and you will live long into your 90's helping him make the best engines in your country or the world. that is an impressive display that is for certain and i bet a few sheckles was put out to pay for these too.

hope you are enjoying your weekend!!

Glad to hear you are feeling well and steadily getting better. Looks like you are solidly in the race engine business for some time to come. You must be producing a good product as it seems your rate of customer return for more business seems to be 100%

oh well at least you have the engine builder side hustle sorted when you get to the retirement bit.

hope you are feeling better.

Bret an engine is great to work on when it is fitted to a stand.
The other thing is that it saves busting your back as well let me tell you

I hear what you are saying there certainly is something very gratifying about it..

Andy :lol_hitti:lol_hitti

The other engine is still running fine..

Most times the aluminum is all in tact, that said, touch wood I haven't had a hand grenade as yet.

We do recycle responsibly even if it is to repurpose.:thumbup:

I like JBs thinking

I am running out of space big time so I need to have a quick turn around time on them.

Drives having a To Do List is like believing in tomorrow.
One thing is for certain I will always have one.
The last engine is up there in terms of Horse Power and has proven very reliable so far and I am hoping these next ones will be the same.
Yes, I am glad I didn't pay for them:shocking:

I am just guessing but an engine rebuild for 1/2 would be one of those things that is relaxing and takes the mind away from other issues (like health) although I know he is on top of that possibly just like he is on top of the engine rebuild.

Fabrication or making something we all know is relaxing and has that feeling of when working on and finished that your day has been constructive.

HOTFR8, you are spot on:thumbup:

Whether its an engine build, making something or even in the garden it is just so therapeutic for me then to sit back at the end of the day ( after I have packed up the tools of course ) and to look at what you have accomplished really makes my day..

1/2: "Drives having a To Do List is like believing in tomorrow."

much better way to put it than the way I wrote it.

even a hard day doing something and maybe not being 100% successful is surely a learning experience and when you are succesful even better.

speaking of TO DO LISTS we could add LEARNING SOMETHING EVERY DAY is very satisfying.

hope you are enjoying your day.

are you back at work on Mondays again?

Hard work never hurt anyone in my book and as you say if it is not 100% it is called a learning experience and thats good to..

I am back at work for the full 5 days now, except for today as I had bloods and another scan and did not go into the office at all..

The day has gone well so far:thumbup:

1/2: sorry to hear you are still being a pin cushion so to speak, but really hoping all this will be over soon in a good way and a distant memory when you are 100% healthy again.

best of luck with the tests and crossing fingers and toes and saying a prayer that everything is still going in a positive direction.

speaking of health I have a cold or the beginning of the flu and wondering what the Aussies do for theirs?

I bought Delsym 12 hour cough medicine and i'm taking Zinc. DO TELL if you might have or know of something else cause i'm sitting here when I could be ORGANIZING MY GARAGE?

I think it's been 3-4 years since I had a cold and I used to get them annually around this time of year with all the kids we had running around here.

cheers

Drives many thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
I consider myself lucky as I have had 4 weeks of not being a pin cushion.

I did read that you are coming down with a cold or flu and all I do is plenty of rest, sleep and fluids to help build your immunity.
I had the flue shot for the first time this year due to me being an at risk type person.

Other than the above I have no magic potion other than to take it easy and do not over do things.

Take care

1/2: thanks for the advice. i've never had a FLU SHOT that I can recall, but for a few years I went to the PA (physician's assistant) to get the 6 pill fix that would usually kick out the bug if I couldn't get rid of it in 10 days. i'm hoping I don't have to go that route this time and maybe diet and exercising will get me back up and running.

I can't recall ever being sick in the summer so maybe dressing warmer and eating better during the winter months might be my best solution.

I know if I was a ROVER ENGINE you'd know how to fix me!!:beer:

glad to hear you are back working full time and haven't been a pin cushion as much lately.

cheers

drives I agree with Steve. None of us likes to rest so we need to remember periodically that we are the center of the wheel that makes the shop run.

I know I'm late to the engine comments, but DANG, that's a ton of them. Glad to hear your "firing on all eight."

xtremek yep there is five in total in the shed, I do not have enough engine stands now:thumbup:

Firing on all eight now:3gears:

Bobby thank you:thumbup:

Believe me I have learnt my lesson we all need to listen to what our bodies are telling us..

Good health for Christmas, a great gift.

So with all those blocks, y’all going to be designing an 8-cylinder?
Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

Shorty having good health is he best Christmas present you can get..

I am propagating multiple 4 cylinder race engines now. :shocking:
Its a bit out of my technical ability and work shop facilities to design an 8..:lol_hitti

Thank you one and all, have a great day:thumbup:

Are engine stands cheaper by the half-dozen down under?
Good to hear you are feeling somewhat better now Steve! I go in tomorrow and the next day to have the nerves in my lumbar area fried( radio frequency ablated) to alleviate the pain from arthritis I have there.. Waiting hopefully that it will take effect soon so I can get off the pain meds and start working out again.

I am doing well all things considered.

All the best with your OP tomorrow
