Andrew, I hope you are going to get all four of the next generation at least a little involved in the restoration of the A. If not all of them, the two oldest would be fascinated by a car that has no cup holders, navigation system, air conditioning or seat belts. Have they ever seen a driver use hand signals? They probably know about straight cut gears from your MG but I bet they've never seen synchromesh-free shifting.

I started re-reading this thread and it's a wonderful story. I'm taking it slow and enjoying all the great projects and adventures. It never occurred to me what a wonderful gift these Garage Journal threads become.

Well the shed downunder update, nothing done on the model A. But I did the edges.... mostly mm perfect and I did the lawns. The I spend some QST in the shed just cleaning and wiping benches.

Excellent. Job done. As others have said- it needs to be fun to be QST. I find things are more fun once I remove my usual self-pressure to finish "NOW".

BTW, More than I did today. I did mount a small wall display cabinet I picked up on Aussie's version of "Craiglist".

I worked on my f250 in my Shed today and thought many times while doing so of 1/2cup. It brought both a smile and sadness at the same time.

For my Trivial Job this week I cut up a little scrap copper to go in the crucible.

And my trivial job this week was getting rid of some cardboard boxes that have been piling up. Didn't get any photos though.

I just wanted you to know that despite never meeting, much less knowing what he looked like, I felt a warm presence always here from across the globe. It's a bit odd to say that I'll miss someone I'd never met, but in Steve's case, I will. Perhaps his example here says something about what amazing things come of kindness and encouragement shared amongst those who feel a sense of community with others of similar interest. Continuing on here with his thread will no doubt give you great comfort as you learn just how far his gentle influence has spread.

Andrew & Family: I'm sorry i haven't made a better effort to post anything on your thread about 1/2 Cup's (Steven & Dad) passing, but it hit me very hard. there hasn't been a day since it happened that I haven't thought of him in one way or another.

I'm hoping one day i'll have the strength to post up the words that I should say, but know that I'm very sorry for your loss and I know he's still with you and us smiling and telling us a good word or two.

I'll support your thread you are taking over for Dad (1/2 Cup) and even though I'm not a car or engine guy I certainly can post up some good words so best of luck with everything and looking forward to any posts and pictures you might be able to post.

in my family (we're 100% Norwegian) we celebrate passing sort of like a WAKE or big party and while others don't agree with that and want to be sad i'd say your dad lived and did the best he could at everything he could. even though I never met him in person we shared many many a conversation here on this forum for the past several years and I ALWAYS enjoyed his positive attitude.

while i was trimming my lawn by hand with hand trimmers I was thinking of your dad and his post when he measured his gap to the thousandth's like he was tuning up his lawn.

I and my family cannot thank you all enough for the beautiful words from the Garage Journal community has shared about Dads passing.
I have a tear every time I look at the thread to see the wonderful posts about Dad.
We cannot that thank you all enough for the support you have given, the sincere posts & the cards we have received is nothing short of amazing.

I'm honoured to post on Dads thread to try and continue the journey he has created, I'll never master Dads way with words but for his sake I'll give it my best.

Mum and I are currently working through all the paperwork and processes that occurs in the situations, however the shed downunder will never be the same but it shall be treated and respected like nothing has changed.

Did you know the middle name Robert is carried through generations? Dads middle name was Robert, my eldest has the middle name Robert. This came about from Dads great uncle who killed in the first word war in 1917 Robert Henry Church.

Though I never met your Dad in person, I think about him daily. He was (is) an inspiration, and he has left a lasting impression on this little black duck.

Whilst I've heard the term Emeritus in relation to retired academics, I wasn't sure what it meant exactly, so I looked it up. It's original Latin meaning was something like "veteran soldier". Very fitting.

I've been so wrapped up in my own world over the past few weeks that I have neglected my GJ activities and didn't realize Steve's passing.

I didn't post much on his thread but always admired his work and attitude, both were something to aspire to.

Thank you Andrew for keeping us informed and I am so sorry to hear of your dad. The video that you put together was very touching and a wonderful tribute to your father.

This GJ community truly is one of a kind, no other forum I have ever been on has the kinship and comradery that GJ does.

Several have asked about paying for the castings however the Church Family suggested donations to Goulburn Valley Hospice. Donations are that, donations, and are voluntary. As a guideline I suggest an amount equal to one hour of your personal pay rate. Shorty said that would be $7.95 for him.

I do not post here on GJ as often as many, but I wanted to send my condolences to you and your family. I have been out of town on vacation, and did not get to post here before I left. It goes without saying that your father had a far-reaching(world-wide) impact on the members of GJ. His legacy of generosity and goodwill will live on here forever. I am in the process of reading this thread from start to finish. Cherish his memory, and a portion of his legacy will live on through the members of GJ for years to come.
