Ric, RM2 (i'm having a brain fart and can't remember if it's Bob or Bill), thanks for you sympathy. RM2, I can't imagine waiting for months, watching your friends get slowly walked out. The announcement was made in October, but the firings didn't happen until last week, but once they started, it was over in 4 days, the Tech Center stayed home due to weather.

The collet organizer is done and dusted. A large portion of the collets don’t have the size on them, so I put the sizes on the dividers. I’m almost done with the taper drill version, but I have to cut more copper tubing to finish it. And I don’t know if I shared, but Bambi decided that since I had to replace the right front fender due to her being hit, I needed to do the same for the left side. And this time, she cracked the door skin as well. Stupid deer.

Did you get Bambi on the other side as well?

I know on my 2mile back road stretch its 35mph due to deer at night.
In my driving career I've gotten 3 1 about every 10 years!

Nice work on the collet organizer!

Using plastic pipe scraps for storage is a great idea!

Sub, bambi got the right side last year. I'm good for about 1 hit a year. Driving 60 takes me about a 1/2 hour to reach the main road, so I'll continue to take the chance. At least it's been the Saturn lately. Just unbolt the old and bolt on the new.

Vieux/Sub,

Thanks for the compliments. Coming from the two of you, I consider that high praise, very high praise.

my back road from the main road wont support 60MPH with the curves that are thrown in. In my youth on my motorcycles I could get 60 on the strait stretch's but in my ford sport trac top speed is about 45-50 and the curves are a 30mph at max.

Also Im only 2 mile from main road so that is a factor as well and if you meet a full size vehicle on my road somebody's riding the shoulder to pass most time's.

as far as High Praise I'm at 1370Feet above sea level where I live so that might be High Praise I don't know.

Another cleaning/organizing the barn job. The $45 cherry picker takes up WAY too much floor space and it quit working. Filled the ram with oil. Then I cut the long legs, found some scrap angle, and welded it up. I still have to drill holes for the pins, and replace the front caster wheels and it should be good to go for few years. Eventually I need to replace the pump seal. I’d do the ram, but its pitted, so I’m not sure if I’ll waste the time on that. I also glued the tubing in the taper drill organizer.

I hit the Detroit AutoRama with my local high school. Here are a few of the rides I thought you guys might be interested in. I also made an album if you’re interested in some of the other rides I liked.

Dance competition season is upon me, so work is slow in the Hack Shack. Anyway, I finished the legs of the cherry picker Monday night. Last night I was able to get back to working on it. I never liked the way the ram connected to the lift beam. They just drilled a hole in the bottom of a rectangular tube and let the ram beat it up. So it was time to suffer with using the lathe to make the piece that will slip over the end of the ram. The horrible burdens we have to bear sometimes. I’ll weld some vertical uprights to this sleeve, drill a hole through everything, and I should be done. Key word there is “SHOULD”.

Wow! AutoRama must have been a blast. Some of the cars have been modified enough to make the original make hard to determine. Two door sedan, early 30's looks great. Also, seems I noticed a blown Lincoln in the mix. Nice wheels. So, which one are you going to add to your project list?!

No new projects until the S'crew and the '52 are done,......................buuutttttttttttttt. My dad has an '67 or '68 Olds Cutlass someone literally left in his barn. It's a total basket case. Quarters are cut off of it, but new ones are there, and so on. But I'm pretty sure it's all there.

Why does a Cutlass sound interesting to me?:bounce:

I get the feeling I should know the answer to your question, but I just can't quite seem to get the picture in focus. Anyway, I dropped by the 'rents place tonight. It's the earlier body style. All the paint is stripped, but the whole car is starting to get a light coating of surface rust. I'm pretty sure there's no engine or trans. Or interior bits. But all the trim and body parts are there, I think. Someone put hood pins on it at one time. So there we are. What would it cost for the parts to make it a runner? Decent engine, trans, glass, and interior. Not concours, just a decent driver.

Drivetrain is easiest, someone is always pulling a 350 for a 455 or LS. That can be surprisingly cheap. I scored a running 403 from a trans am guy going 455 for $375.
Being close to the Lansing area, I think interior will be easier for you than it ever would be for me, 64-67 all fits. Glass would be a pickle to scare up around here, nothing in the yards anymore.

You have time on your side, you can sit back and watch CL. I do know there is a guy on the north side of Detroit with several he is parting, I've seen his ads for years. He had a running 330 66 Cutlass complete for $12-1500 last year.

What does it matter what the cost would be, XTREMEK?!! You gotta make a runner out of it.

By the way, I've had one or more of each year -- 67 and 68:

nsidering that this past Saturday was dominated by my daughter’s dance competition (8am to 7pm including travel), I still got a decent amount of work done. I finished all of the alterations to the cherry picker. There is chain is so I can pull the bottle off its mount and not have the ram extend. I still need to swap out the front caster wheels, but it’s pretty much done. I also got the shop cleaned up. And I put a new outer CV boot and wheel bearing on the Saturn and found/replaced a bad valve core on the generator tire yesterday.

When I was 18 I owned a 73 that looked just like this one. It was one of my most favorite cars of my youth. It was a runner but at the same time it was a luxury ride. If they wasnt so expensive these days or my pockets were deeper I would have another one.
Looking at this picture sure brings back some awesome memories. Wonder how the little brunette is doing and if she still looks like she did back then.

I'd be shocked if the little brunette looked the same. The car on the other hand, just might. GM knew how to make good looking cars back in the 60's and 70's, and that '73 still looks good to me. I would think you could pick up a decent '73 fairly reasonable.

I had a triple black '73 Supreme myself. Everyone commented on how nice it rode. Not grandma's full size wallowing couch, but nicely absorbed the bumps and smooth as silk.

I was a fan of the G-Body cars, so 1978 and 1979 are my favorites for almost all the body styles, 1980 they changed the headlights in a lot of models and I didn’t care for them. My favorite is 1979 Monte Carlos.

I had a '79 Monte Carlo for a year or so. Console and buckets with a power moonroof couldn't overcome a truly awful green vinyl interior. Green exterior too, and not a pretty shade either.
My favorite G bodies have quad headlights.

I have had a few of the late 70s montes that has T-tops, I loved them, but if you ever got in a bad accident, the car would fold up. I always wanted to start a junkyard that specializes in G body cars, it would have been called “The ******”.

For the GM cars, the stuff out of the early to mid sixties are my favs, so this fits right here I like them.

When the wife and I got married, we got her 1972 Cutlass S paid off as a wedding present from her folks. 20,000 miles on it. Had it for 20 years until rust from the vinyl top and leaking rear window and our 2 young boys made us decide we needed a 4 door ride. 1966 Chevelles are really nice; had mine since 1971.

Nice autorama pics. Really liked the Vega with the Monza GT look! Loved my 1974 Vega GT, even though it ate shift forks and pinion gears( 7,000 rpm clutch dumps with a 50# flywheel will do that).

That's a terrible business plan. No man would be able to find it.

I did own an '81 Gran Prix. Back then it served it's purpose: a marshmallow ride after a spine injury. I had it until 1985. Why are they called G bodies?

I haven’t been a total slacker. In the past month I’ve replaced both control arms, a rear wheel bearing, belt tensioner, and a tie rod end on the Orphan (the Saturn), 3 hard brake lines on the TrailBlazer (still can’t get all of the air out of it), pulled a bunch of “trees” (about twice the size your big toe ) from under the deck, and gutted most of the wiring from the Dodge organ donor. Hopefully I can get the TBlzr out this week, and drag the dump truck in so I can fix 3rd gear and replace the long rails on the box (they actually collapsed). Who knows if I can keep this up, maybe the yard won’t look like a junk yard. Ahhhhh, dreaming big.

Any time a car can move under it's own power again is a big win. I hate non yard driveable vehicles with a passion. Why do I always have so many?

I actually prioritized getting a couple yard driveable last spring. The S10 is literally a yard truck for pushing and pulling dead vehicles and transporting brush to burn.
