I parked the pickup on the cement, and it was a tight squeeze. I might have clipped the blade on the Old Mule a little backing out at 0dark:30 when I left for the gym Anyway, I took the tire into Discount Tire and asked them to fix it with a patch. They refused can you believe it? Some nerve. OK, seriously, since it had a warranty on it, they replaced it free of charge. To reapply the warranty to this one cost a whopping $32. Got to like that.

That's one heck of a cut.
Thank goodness for tire warranties.
It's good you were able to purchase a warranty on the new tire.

The furnace has been giving me fits all year. The pilot would just randomly go out. It was getting to the point it usually wouldn’t stay lit for more than 40 minutes. It did the same thing last year, so I replaced the thermocouple. So yesterday I got to the point where I was done. I pulled the valve off and kind of tore it down, then used air in a can to blow everything out and put it back in. The inside of the valve looked really clean, though the relay/solenoid was kind of dirty. Put it back together and it’s been working properly,……..so far.

This is one wicked wagon. If I remember right, it does the 1/4 in 6seconds, if I remember right.bad volvo.jpgDivco.jpg

This Zinger, and Kurt Russel were the reason my first vehicle was a pan buggy.

A local guy, Eric Luna, did the upholstery on this one.

But this was the Bell of the Ball in my opinion. For those not in the know, this is the Hirohata Merc, built by the famous George Barris. It recently sold to a collector for pretty much $2 million. It looks better in person, and considering when and how it was built, it is beyond exquisite.

We went Friday night to pick up Robin's first piece of dedicated equipment for her hemp business. Glad I designed the trailer sides to be removable.
I know it’s a year ago but before you do anything else find a piece of 4” pvc and rip a 1 1/2” groove down the lenth and slip it over those guards and wrap a bungee around it.It’s a dangerous *******.You’ll thank me later.

I really like this!

It was/is sweet. Still trying to figure out how they did it. My best guess is they cut the back of the cab/interior of an El Camino box out and grafted it onto the Bonneville.
Oh the Hirohata Merc, what a car. That when cars were hand built from scratch, not bought on line.
I'll send you a shiney new round tuit.
I need a bunch of them. How many can you send me. And on the Barris/Hirohata Merc, I'd rather have it than any Ferrari or Porsche (except MAYBE a Groupe B Dakar 959).
Hell if that's all your waiting on I'll ship you a round tuit via express shipping.

I have a soft spot for old school coe's and I'm looking forward to when you start yours.
Do you think if I get enough Round-Tuits, I can use them to buy some motivation? I only have 3 more items to fix on Smooth ('03 Screw), finish Claudia (the bulldozer), fix the Old Mule, take care of the daughter's Equinox and drywall the two walls in the shop and it'll be the '52's turn.
Some cool cars. Weren't you supposed to be working?
I gave work up for lent. The last 3 years it was held, I took a day off and went with the kids to the show.
Good to see that there are some that still exist.
My auto shop class existed in my father's garage with only me. But I am now a Lic. Auto Tech and a Certified Engineering Technologist, the latter not self taught.
Most of my wrench learnings were self taught. Dad was a school teacher, definitely not a wrench.
Is that using the back of a 5 window cab for a sleeper?
It's actually a "regular" cab. They guy wanted to be able to take 5 adults in it. It has a pass-thru bellows so people can still talk to each other. Not my style, but very cool and very smart.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Not my first time around a sickle mower, but my first time hearing that tip. Guess a trip to the hardware store is in order sometime soon. Thank you very much, Mr. Murph
Thanks for the cool pics of the cars from the autorama!

That has to be a great show to be at!
It's still really cool, but it was way down this year. Very few muscle cars, or high performance machines. Still some very high quality rides. I didn't like the Riddler Award car for this year. Super nice build quality, but so not my style.

Kirk, I agree. The '50 Olds that made it to the Great 8 was more my style. Even better, instead of a high six digit checkbook build, it's a 15-year project done in a backyard body shop with the builder fitting it in between paying jobs. It's built on the original frame with a Mustang II front end. It has over-the-counter 9-spoke wheels and the engine is a plain old Chevy small block with Holley fuel injection.

This Oldsmobile is built the way custom cars were built in the 1950s -- parts from other cars grafted into the custom. The headlight surrounds are from a 1955 Olds and the taillights are from a 1958-60 Corvette. The custom grille is ten 1948 Ford door handles with one of them being the hood release.

Bob, that Olds was REALLY nice. I didn't like the Corvette cut-out in it, but I'd be proud to own it. The Riddler, not so much. The fenders are what ruined it for me. But I'm more of a driver guy. I'd rather have a car I won't worry about getting a stone chip on.

Bob, that is what should win, not these catalog cars.
It was a great time in hot rodding when guys would see a part on a car and want to incorporate it into there build, go to a scrap yard buy it, take it off the wreck and take it home.
Jim, the least one could do was remove the hood and trunk ornaments and name badges. Then cut a coil off the front suspension and bolot on lowering blocks on the rear leaf springs. Often followed by a trip to the scrap yard to scrounge around for a set of '57-8 Dodge Lancer or '53-6 Olds Fiesta hubcaps.

Kirk, I imagine the photos don't do it justice. The Hirohata Merc is the standard of chopped tops on an early '50s Mercury (4" in front, 7" in rear) but this is about the best chop I've seen on an early '50s Olds coupe. The stock roof was pretty stodgy but the 3.5 inches he took out is damn close to perfect.

Like you, the only fault I see is the C1 Corvette cove.

And if I remember right the corvette cove treatment was just painted on. Not actual custom bodywork. Up close it just did not fit the car. But otherwise a very nice car. Still like t he basement the best. Real hot rods and some backyard car creators there.

We're picking nits here. Like saying someone should lose 2 more pounds when we're +25 lbs over weight. The car was gorgeous, and I hope my '52 is half as nice when I'm done with it.

I can play the sliced Sidewall tire game as well. Thingks I got the splitting wedge in the snow and put it threw the sidewall. didnt even know I was missing the splitting wedge it lives on my Logging ATV and must have bounced out when bringing in a log sometime. Might Have been when I was pulling some old Telephone poles around or when I was moving a maple syrup stove and was watching the stove and not the front of the ATV and didn't see the wedge get bounced out. 20220312_130415.jpg20220312_133421.jpg

I wondered where I left that wedge. I'm glad I get the warranty on our tires. I'm guessing we come close to breaking even money wise with them, and the convenience tips the scales heavily in my favor.

Ha,

I have to think this the first time I've sliced a sidewall like this. Screws/nails in the tread yep done that a few times.

Heck the kids ATV Recon winter tires that I put chains on for more traction took it out for a ride threw the bean field stubble next to the house and now those tires have like 3-10 holes in them from fronzen bean stems I'm guessing just the rear tires the fronts still hold air but the rears are toast. My atv with 6ply tires held up just fine but the 2 rears are shot or Im thinking I might buy some tire Jet stuff and give that a go on them. I just swapped back to the summer mud tires it still plows fine just dosn't quite have the same traction as the stockers with chains. Hole by the end of the zip tie and I quit looking when I found 4 of these seeping air.20220227_140525.jpg
