Has anyone made cabinet doors for shelving units like this? I am considering doing this by basically just fastening some 1x faceboards around the edges and then hinge a piece of ply on the edges with some trim to dress it up a bit? I am just sick of looking at my open shelves with auto cleaning/repair stuff on them but I don't want to build shelves from scratch right now.

Does that sound feasible?

Bolting a face frame to the unit using the exposed holes meant for attaching the shelves would be an easy thing to do. Then you could mount any type of door you wanted and make them flush if desired. External hinges.

Sliding doors seem to be more popular for this type of shelving.
