i see all these nice, fancy, clean garages...and i see no yard equipment. not everyone has a shed out back for their mowers and shovels. do you all hide them, or hire out your yard work?

shed.
I bought one and got all the wife's junk outta my garages/shop. She now has her tractor-shed. Keeps the shop cleaner.

Shed... no yard equipment is allowed in my garage. I built a 16x20 with 11ft ceilings and 2 16x4 lofts with a walk in 16x20 attic. Its really not big enough (they never are) but it houses my tractor, wood working tools, yard furniture during the winter on one of the lofts, all the kids toys, and all the spare auto parts (in the attic).... works pretty well.

little 8' x 10' wooden shed although the mower doesn't fit in it which is something I'd really like out of the garage so I can put a bench where it lives.

My 24x40 pole barn is not the shrine that many garages are on this site so I haven't posted pics but the barn houses my '87 Buick GN, '08 John Deere 2320 tractor, John Deere riding mower and Troy Bilt walk behind mower. Weed eater, chain saw, rakes, shovels, axes, etc. all reside in there as well. It is a great workshop/storage area with plenty of room to safely house most of my toys and tools. No shed required.

I have a shed out back that is attached to the kids playhouse. I have a lawnmower, some seed and croquet set. Tree cutting I pay someone to do because my trees are to tall and big.

Lawn equipment doesn't belong in the garage.

Get a cheap shed, you don't need a big one.

For those who cannot have a shed outside (or don't want one), then putting yard equipment in the garage is the only choice (unless you want to hire out your landscaping). I keep a snow blower and a push mower in my 2 car garage, cuz my back yard is filled up with a pool/patio (if I want a shed out back, it would have to float!).

The snow blower and push mower change positions in the garage, depending on the time of year.

Tractor is outside by the wood line... along with the firewood, snowmobiles, dirtbike, yard tools, etc. Working on the shed, but sure as hell not putting all that in the garage!

I will need a shed for the zero turn and snowblower but everything else is stored in this cabinet.

We have 10'x12' Tuff Shed that all yard maint. equipment and misc. junk goes in.:bounce: Really makes a big difference in keeping things neater in the garage. Also the enclosed cabinets in the garage helps with/gives a cleaner appearance.

I am right there with you. My shed is on the SIDE of the house. Its just big enough for the mower and trimmer, see above picture. Back yard has a large patio and lots of palm trees. Very landscaped, but I do it all myself. So a small shed on the side of the house works out perfect for me. Where do you put your trash cans?

I have 3 buildings on my place for storage. I have my main shop, a RV cover, and a smaller shed. The smaller shed has the hand tools like rakes and shovels. it also has stuff like my push mowwer and mulcher. I have two old campers I restored, a scotty and Aristocrat. I have the rv cover wired and water hookups on the posts. Its open on the sides. I can hook them up under it like I was camping. I highly recomend that. You can go out there anytime and just relax  . As far as my shop I have the main area where I do woodworking and other stuff. Then I have the area where I do auto stuff. I have my tools, compressor, welder, oil and my old truck in there. Then on the other side I have the shed part I added. It is where my tractor is and where I park the riding mower now. I will have to put the mower somewhere else soon. The state is widening the road in front of my house and taking the shed my inlaws have. My powermatic planer is in that building and I plan on putting it in there with the tractor. So I have stuff all over.

Got a shed for the lawn stuff; the problem i have is keeping the kids wheeled toys out of there.

Strollers, cars, bikes, trikes, wagons and whatever else get constantly moved into the center of what i am trying to accomplish.

Anybody else find these things annoying?

I built a shed 5 or 6 years ago for the lawn equipment and pool chemicals. I keep it over in the side yard out of main site.

All the shovels, rakes, and implements of destruction, are on hooks on the garage wall, (on the wife's side).
The mower and larger stuff is stored in the basement. I am working on cabinets for the shovels and rakes.

That looks vaguely familiar. Looks like it turned out great!

Yes it did thanks to you and your help, I appreciate it. I have built quite a few cabinets but I would have never considered building cabinets this way, really quick and sturdy. Thanks

Don't tell my Home Owners' Association, but I keep my rolling dumpster outside the garage door (a no-no in my neighborhood). Here's a shot where you can barely see it to the left -

One of the things I learned here is to de-clutter (not a one-time deal - it's a constant battle). I made several trips to the dump, but I also went through and decided where things should go. For example, that stack of winter tires in the above pic was moved to my walk-out basement workshop. I also prefer cabinets over open shelving because IMO shelves look cluttered and do not keep the contents clean. I don't wanna have to dust things off.

I love Jack Olsen's shed, and I may build a long shed under my deck to keep certain things. But accessibilty under my deck isn't great due to the height, so I would need to keep things in there I rarely use.

I have my 32X40 shop and a small shed behind it, that is used for shovels, rakes and stuff, the rest sits in the attached garage on the house. We have never used it to park our cars in.

Nice looking garage... now put a good looking floor down and finish it up!!! :)

HaHa - thanks! I know I know, the floor looks like sh!t. It's starting to crack too, thanks to the wonderful job the builder did in our neighborhood pouring the floors. I'm not a fan of the Racedeck type of systems, but I'd like to do something eventually. If I don't put down epoxy, I thought about sandblasting and applying a clear over the refreshed surface. The floor is pretty far down on my to-do list.

Now that the garage is better organized, I will be turning my attention to the hidden workshop in my basement (I built a Scooby-Doo bookcase/door with a single industrial piano hinge that swings open to enter the shop). Car-stuff (mostly) stays in the garage, and the household/woodshop is in the basement. I de-cluttered it last weekend, and will build a corner workbench to make better use of the space. This forum is what's pushed me to fix up that space as well.

EDIT: sorry for de-railing the thread
