This is my concern too. The one time I was foolish enough to try for a lightning deal it was gone within seemingly seconds (may have been minutes in reality). There are people w no life who just sit at the computer & watch the clock.

While there's no question I'm a consumer manipulated by many tactics, sitting, waiting, timing or scheduling my whole day around a narrow window in a mad race to HOPE I don't get beat out of a limited quantity is too far for me.

Sure, I wait for sales - even Zoro's flash sales - but even those are for a few hours, apply across the board, and they're not only offering 100 of Widget X.

That pretty much sums up this board.

I did read about it directly from Amazon as you may happen to have noticed that same quote included in my post above.

Thank you, that's what I suspected.
While I purchase a bunch of stuff from Amazon I don't spend a lot of time on the site. I just go in and buy the stuff I need and get out. Hmm, my sister on the other hand lives on her phone/tablet/internet. Maybe give her something productive to do and have her check continually for my items. :D

I'm trying to get used to the smartphones, but screw up stuff like missing a whole quote. ;)

The key thing I'm keeping in mind about Amazon's statement is that they said:

"...offering more deals than Black Friday",

which does not really mean "better" deals.

I tried shopping at Walmart, Target and Best Buy in my underwear. Not only did I have to get in the car and drive there, but they had the nerve to throw me out and tell me to never come back!

Amazon never did that to me.

I don't know about Target or Best Buy, but according to the People of Walmart website, you can shop in store, in your underwear, with no problem.

Were I you, I would hire a lawyer and sue for discrimination.

Thanks for the heads up. I have a few needs so I'll take a wait and see.

AFA Target etc matching prices, it's still easier to pick the item up off the porch than to fight the Target crowd.

They do same day delivery where I live on a bunch of items. With Prime, I think you just need to spend over $35 to get it for free.

I live in a semi-rural area and our "2 day Prime delivery" is up to 3 or 4 days now. I'd complain but it still beats driving to Wal Mart.

I'm a block east of the middle of nowhere in NJ. Amazon delivers to me 7 days a week including holidays. Sunday deliveries come from a post office about 10 miles away, which is 3 post offices away.

Some teasers with less than 24 hours to go.

Somehow I'm not expecting anything in my Amazon cart to be part of this:

http://money.cnn.com/2015/07/14/news/amazon-prime-day-sales-walmart/index.html

LOL no kidding. At least the WalMart examples include a B&D drill.

Already the Amazon thing is annoying me......"starts at 12:01." I'm sorry, I'm not sitting up at f'ing midnight in a mad race to click the fastest for a limited qty of a 40" TV. The whole Lightning Deal thing is the same damn tactic car dealers try use...."this price only good this second." It creates an artificial sense of urgency.

Except unlike a car dealership, the price will only be good for a limited time (likely until stock is depleted). I'd imagine most of the items will be things Amazon is just trying to clear out.

Pretty lame so far, my friend works in one of their warehouses and I was expecting something much bigger based on how they were prepping schedule, etc.

It will be interesting to see how this strategy plays out for Amazon.

We are an instant gratification, short attention span, consumer driven, media sound-bite society these days, and I think Amazon's strategy in part has been to play to that social dynamic. Once they get people signed up for Prime, my guess is the number of people who subsequently drop Prime is relatively small.
As a business Ya gotta love recurring revenue streams!

I'm not critiquing people here, as I am a long time Amazon user myself.

However, I wonder if there is a potential for this Prime day deal to backfire a bit if the sales are not deemed worthy of peoples time to obtain them.(even in our 24/7 internet society) Of course once the memory of a less than satisfying sale fades, there will still be X number of new Prime members on board. So mission accomplished?

I have 11 (8 needs, 3 wants) items on my wish list that I've been waiting for this big sale to purchase. Somehow I don't think that 12lb. buckets of granulated Rat Poison is going to be one of the super deals. :)

It screws loyal Prime member by allowing trial membership abuse for special events. It's not a Prime Member sales day as much as it is a Prime MemberSHIP sales day. I have had and cancelled Prime a couple of times. The wife is currently a student so student Prime at the moment which is a much better price.

Overall still disappointed with Prime as a whole. Many late shipments, even when next day is purchased. Lots of stuff doesn't ship for 3-5 days after the order so who cares if it's 1 or 2 days at that point. Many items moved to Add-on status. Video selection is mediocre. Pricing in general is sometimes significantly more on Amazon recently so it's not as much of a "go to" place for me anymore.

I've never figured out how much of that is automatic by the Sears software, and how much is manually updated.
I do know that those price-matched items have a habit of getting slapped with the dreaded Hot Buy tags.

Only one more hour to go!!! :willy_nil

A lot of these huge deals don't look like huge deals to me. Take that OTC leak down test kit for example.. Amazon's price is only $5 less than the average 3rd party seller's price.

Is it showing $64 for prime members logged into their account?

I have that kit. I bought it last September off Amazon for about $60, so not exactly a super deal there.

Only thing worthwhile for me is a new Kindle for the wife since the storm the other day screwed up the screen.
The sucky part is an estimate date of mid September

No surprise here... Just like Black Friday. I always see 1 or 2 crazy deals and the rest are the same "sale price" as every other week. It's all bs hype.
