Not an AWD, but a good price anyway. This may have already been posted since it has been on sale for awhile.

DEWALT Cutting Wheel, All Purpose, 4-1/2-Inch, 5-Pack (DW8062B5)
$2.99
Link

For some reason the price shown on the page is sometimes $2.99 and other times it is $10.**

Look at the bottom of the description paragraph and there is a link to the lower price:

"New (12) from $2.99 & FREE Shipping on orders over $25.00"

I see this is back to 2.99 and in stock.

Anyone familiar with that brand? Reviews are mostly paid reviews, that is a little concerning.

According to a quick search, the press releases on these tools were released on 12/19/2019, so they are brand new to market. They are part of the Apex group, so think chinese gear wrench quality.

I’m eyeballing this set for taking to the junkyard. I went last week to pull a transmission for my Bronco and the mosh mash of tools I grabbed from my main box and tossed in a couple of tool bags was ridiculous. Something like this plus a set of Sunex 3/8” impact sockets would’ve been a lot more organized. I’m also thinking just the 3/8” impact set with a hand ratchet added should be enough, then some ratcheting wrenches and a few other tools should be able to remove most parts.

Even most Gearwrench stuff is Chinese manufactured now.

Did the product info change on that Sata set? The link looks like a 3 set of Ratchets now, not a 151 piece set.

It's gone as near as I can tell. When it first popped up it had a "Limited time offer" banner attached. I suspect it was a promotional loss leader for Sata

One of my favorite sets - Felo 6 pc screwdriver set $32.44:

Grabbed ‘em.

A few years ago I had the earlier version, without the hex bolster. I liked them so much I ordered them as Christmas presents and wound up giving away my original set in the process.

I’ve got lots of nice screwdrivers at this point, but there’s nothing quite like those squishy “Ergonic” handles for really putting down torque.

Turns out this set does include a blow mold case and they are pretty good quality. 20200128_190428.jpg

Sent from my SM-G970U1 using The Garage Journal mobile app

Interesting. It doesn’t scream quality to me, but the lathes and hinges in the blow mold case look well above Harbor Freight Pittsburgh Pro grade.

If Apex is adding a lower priced brand, it would be nice to see a detailed review!

Edit— replying to another specific thing about this “Sata”...

This appears to be the case, and it’s really quite regrettable. Such a substantial change to the listing should require a new URL, or at minimum, invalidate the reviews. This tends to happen over the years that products are up, but a “limited time offer” smells like manipulation.

Should be at least halfway decent tools but I'm wondering if yet another brand of made in China tools is actually needed.

Looks to me that like Apex might be trying to compete with Harbor Freight's Icon line with a line of higher end made in China tools that seem to be, at least for now, exclusive to amazon.

Apex might even be somehow using their SATA brand to hopefully better compete with Stanley Black & Decker's Craftsman brand. :dunno:

IMO some of, but not all, GearWrench that are made in China tools are good/decent OK but I still prefer tools that are not made in communist countries. Of course many GearWrench tools are made in Taiwan. I do buy tools that are made in China as availability and my budget at times affect my final decision. As determining COO before buying online can be, and often is, challenging I'm thinking it would be nice if Apex branded their made in China tools as SATA and branded their made in Taiwan tools as GearWrench.

From Oct 14, 2019:
https://toolguyd.com/sata-gearwrench-sibling-amazon-exclusive-mechanics-tools/
"We just received word that Apex Tool Group has brought one of their mechanics tool brands to the USA and is launching it as an Amazon exclusive.

SATA, a Gearwrench sibling company, is now available on Amazon, and there’s already “deal pricing” on many of them."

"SATA also says that their tools are premium-quality and that they stand up top established brands while being priced 10% to 50% below industry leaders."

"Offering the ease and speed of mobile Amazon buying, auto techs now “have a tool truck in their hand,” he said. SATA’s initial launch includes mechanic tool sets, torque wrenches, wrenches, pliers, ratchets, impact sockets, hex keys, tool storage and more — over 150 SKUs, all with a lifetime warranty.

A tool truck in your hands, thanks to the ease and speed of mobile Amazon buying."

Gearwrench, with one of the most high maintenance, time consuming warranties in the industry, is in a worse position than harbor fright to compete with real tools.

I'm not very concerned about warranty, YMMV.

Yes, some brands are easier to get replaced under warranty than others.

If warranty is the most important thing to you, IMO, best choice probably would be to limit yourself as to choice of brands and to buy locally from places like Harbor Freight, Lowes, Home Depot, Costco, TSC, local farm store, local auto parts store or from a tool truck if you have one that stops by. If ease of warranty isn't a concern shopping online for deals on brand name tools can get you decent mid quality brand name tools sometimes at bargain prices.

I have broken a few mid to high end tools in the last 50+ years, IIRC all were being abused at the time. I have lost, had stolen or worn out many more tools than I've broken. Worst cheap tools that broke (when not being abused) were Home Depot's Husky brand, at first I just threw them in the in the trash as they broke but eventually all were tossed and have avoided all Husky brand tools since. No way would I bother to warranty cheap tools and have to deal with the replacements breaking.

Pretty much the only GearWrench tools I buy are sockets, impact extensions and ratchets. I did try GearWrench pliers but didn't care for them, I personally prefer Knipex. Never have bought any GearWrench screwdrivers, I like my Wiha screwdrivers.

Return policy of the seller is of more concern to me than warranty. I did buy made in China GEARWRENCH 84453 3/8" Drive 6", 9" & 12 x-Core Pinless Universal Joint Impact Extension Set " but returned them, just seemed to be of very low quality to me, to amazon before even using. My SteelMan Pro pinless feel of higher quality and, for the last ~3 years, are still holding up just fine.

IMO no one brand has the best in all tool categories so even if you like/prefer a certain brand of say sockets it's not wise to assume that their other tools will be satisfactory.

IMO buy the best tools you can afford. Not all made in China tools are of low quality but IMO there are other reasons to avoid made in China products if/when possible.
