Another question about ceiling liner panels

I am planing on using the metal liner panels for my new 40 by 60 shop ceiling. I am also going to go with the panels on the upper 4ft of my 12 ft walls. Bottom half will be plywood.

i have questions about the trim pieces that I need to use. I understand that there is a “j” channel for the ceiling, but what about the intersection of the 4 ft vertical wall section and the ceiling. Do I need another “j” channel for the top of this section. And finally, what about the bottom of the 4 ft section? Another “j” channel or some other type of trim piece?

thanks

There are options (there are a lot of different trim pieces available), but I used J-channel at the top and bottom of my walls, as well as around the edge of the ceiling. It made for nice finished corners. Example:

Question, why not just with plywood for the upper 4' of the wall? I'm guessing you're already going to paint the plywood instead of leaving it "natural" looking.

Run the plywood right up to the bottom of the truss chords, screw the j-channel right to the plywood.

I like the look of the metal for the top 4 ft.

Good enough reason.

Do you have access to a siding brake ? You could bend up all your trim. I bent up my own J-channel.

Keep in mind, a lot of metal may cause some "echoing" if you don't hang anything on the walls to help absorb the sound. It may wreak havoc on your cell/WiFi signal as well. So you may want to plan for that.

I am also getting ready to finish a 12' high pole barn. I also like the look of the liner panel at the top 4' of the wall with liner panel ceiling. There is a trim piece called an F&J channel. It works great in this application. It is about twice as expensive as J channel. You will also need a piece of trim at the juncture of the OSB and the top 4' of liner panels.
To eliminate most of that trim work, I have decided to run OSB up the whole 12' and use a j channel at the top for the ceiling liner panels. I would have to paint anyway, and it is not much more to paint. I think that will also help with the echo/noise problems with barns with ceiling and wall liner panels.
