I am also trying to find a cool stand/base for this

What is a good working height for a stand?

I have two Arbor presses that see quite a bit of use in my shop. One is a 3 ton ratcheting Dake that I use for straightening shafts like vise handles and pressing bearings in and out. Also gets occasional use driving broaches. I really like how fast it is to get the ram set up. I also have an old Weaver motor service arbor press on an original cast iron stand. It is good for three tons using the handle and 5 if you use the screw. It came with a brake riveting attachment and I use it mostly for setting small rivets and broaching. Ed.

The second coat of gloss smoke grey enamel is drying, and I love the finish and the thickness of this enamel

Hopefully the newly custom ordered 7/8"x32" 1144 steel rod lever will arrive this week and I can start to re-assemble the press

All the bolts will also be replaced, so I don't have to mess with the old painted hardware. The new bolt heads will not be painted.

I am thinking stainless steel or grade 8, for the nice color combo

I might also get fancy and try to paint the raised lettering on the press, in black

What is the purpose of the center threaded bolt hole on this plate:

Yours is a little different than mine. But I'd say that center threaded hole in the cover plate is for a brass bolt to apply tension to the ram to keep it from dropping from gravity. Mine uses a spring loaded brass rivet from the side to do the same thing. You can get the instruction and parts sheet off the Dake web site. That should show all the parts.

I got this Dake in the shop a couple weeks ago. I plan to use it with hot molten metal straight from the forge

Love that floor model Dake Gaswiz. Having an easily adjustable table height is very useful in a press. I passed on a similar size Atlas a few years back as it had a broken frame casting. You should find a lot of work for that Dake while forging. Ed.

Getting closer......bought some Grade 8 bolts and washers, to make it stand out and look more industrial

I greased the press first and then greased the horizontal gear piece, and slid it into place with help of a soft rubber mallet

I used a bolt, washer and a large SS fender washer on the end to hold it in place

I then greased the ram slightly and mounted the front cover plate.......I don't think I will need the shims that were initially installed with the plate

The center hole takes a brass bolt, that puts slight pressure on the ram? I need to search around and find one.

Just need to wait on the 1144 steel 7/8"x32" lever bar to get here

I really want to try to use gloss black paint and highlight the press markings

Well some say that the center bolt should be brass, to put pressure up against the ram? Brass is soft right and shouldn't mark or score the ram

Well after further inspection, it looks like the center bolt is a ball end thrust pressure bolt.......atleast that's what I think it's called

Gloves with a dab of paint on your finger works great. Or a foam brush. Either is a great option.

I've not tried them, but i've read about paint markers, like a Sharpie with paint available at Hobby Lobby and similar store. Seems like a good idea.

Ok, well I was ready to order something and I went to the garage, thankfully

I thought it measured it and it was 3/8-20.......NOPE

The bolt that was in the center hole is 5/16-18

Also, I put the bolt in the vise and sprayed it with WD40.......about 30 min later I tried using a punch and it would not budge

So, I got out a larger punch and the ball bearing cracked in half........no spring inside the bolt.

It appears as if the bolt was homemade and drilled out, because the hole inside the bolt was not centered and I found a smaller hole, under the area were the ball sat (like a smaller pilot hole)

I ended up buying a 55 cent nylon bolt.......it works and holds the heavy ram in place

The nylon color takes away from the look of the press, but it will work.......do they sell black nylon bolts? Haha

Do you have the parts breakdown for your press? The Dake web site has some of them. It would be nice to know what the original part was. Im sure it was not a nylon bolt. A call to Dake customer service might be worth rhile.

The nylon bolt and works well........soft enough it will wear nice and not mar the face of the ram

The solid steel lever arrived yesterday, and it is NICE!! Made from 1144, it is 7/8" diameter and 32" long. Both ends are drilled and tapped 1/2-20, about 1-1/2" deep
