I've been all over this forum for a while trying to gather up ideas to get my garage squared away. It's a two car 26x24 under the house. I have HVAC ductwork, plumbing, exposed insulation in the ceiling, and those pesky support poles to deal with and i'd like to see what some of you guys have done to make the best of it.

A guy made an unbelievable mustang garage in his basement, but I don't know the link.

Hopefully someone will chime in. It sounds like you have prime space there.

i'm in virginia, so no basements here. so my question is how do you get cars under the house? pics would help out. iirc jack olsen's garage has a support column right down the middle.

These types of garages are over 90% of the homes here in San Francisco and just outside of the city.

I had one for about 10 years before moving. I really loved it, though I wish it had more ceiling height. The first thing I recommend is LOTS of light. Without windows you need every bit of help you can get. Recess them into the floor joists if you can so you don't lose any height. I left my ceiling open so that I could get to all the mechanicals of the house. It was a work space anyways, so the unfinished look was ok by me.

Try hard not to put things around those support poles. It'll pile up quickly. Be aware that you're working right below your living space, so if you're welding or painting, keep the doors open, and don't bang on things after the wife/kids are asleep.
